Clowns.
Speaking of Narrative Projection™. DenchDeckard DenchDeckard (and DarkMage619 DarkMage619 who no surprise liked his post) arguing about "failure on the marketing of this machine" in multiple threads because he thinks "performance framerates at something like fidelity quality" can only be inferred as "60-120hz at high settings" by people.

It's almost like Dench studied comments about the Series S and is repeating it in the hope it has a similar effect.

I distinctly remember some xbox user being disappointed about the Series S performance in some thread for a game that ran at 30fps, low settings along with the lower res and another thread about devs complaining about Series S being a pain. This user was complaining how the marketing from Jason Roland "just at a lower resolution" was essentially bullshit and Series S had to have drastic cutbacks beyond res.

Both Darkmage and Dench were attacking the guy in both threads :

Yet here he is trying to get a similar narrative going now for the best console by concentrating on a "marketing is misleading" narrative. Follow your own advice DenchDeckard DenchDeckard and stop continuously complaining about something that wasn't said, in multiple threads. That narrative isn't going to happen. nobody expected highest settings at anything close to 120fps. Only something like fidelity quality on base PS5 now running at performance mode (60fps) on Pro and that's what's happening mostly. There are exceptions where it's better (like Capcom games) and vice versa.
The threads for anybody who wasn't in them at the time. 1, 2.

Still think the Series S is a beast Dench or is that too embarrassing to admit now that the truth about the machine finally surfaced and those anonymous devs were right?

What's wild is MS ended up removing the inside series s video where Ronald McDonald claimed "just lower resolution" for the series s.

I said this many times here but this is the same Jason Ronald that was with a group of us in Discord watching the Road to PS5 and he laughed at how much effort was put into the PS5 SSD and he was convinced the Series X was winning every head to head matchup in games simply because of more TFs

Seems the tl;dr that most are saying is that it's worth it if you game a lot. But if you're more casual and you're happy with the base PS5, it's a skip.

Sounds fine to me - the PS5 Pro is aimed at the hardcore gamer, not someone who turns it on to play games a couple of times a week.

Yep, the same way I could have spent $2k on my PC, but I wanted to future proof it more and not have to sacrifice frames or visuals so I spent another $1k+. That's why I bought the Pro even though I owned the PS5eris S.

Man Digital Foundry makes everyone else analysis look amateur...
I really like MVG content but even him that is technical savy, what is wrong with his capture quality in this video? Some videos look super washed out like wrong HDR encoding and other super black crushed with blue tint like that The Crew video, or does that game actually look like that? Awful comparisons on that PSSR section.
Completly missed the Boost PS4 IQ enhancement because it seems he only tested PS4 Pro enhanced games (thats Sony's fault for not better explaining how the mode works).
Says real world performance gains are in the 15 to 30% range, and uses TLoU2 as worst case scenario example when it is actually one of the games that show 100% improvement (Higher than Base Fidelity IQ at double framerate).
No mention of HFR/Unlocked VRR modes like the ones on Stellar Blade, GoWR, Insomiac's games.
I dont know man, i think i fried my brain watching/reading people reactions to this thing.

Worth $700? Of course not. The right price would be $550~600 WITH the disc drive. But that's what happens when you have no competition.
Sure you take a ps5 digital 1tb add 1tb nvme for 2tb total and it's around $530. $550-600 for the PS5 Pro yeah i could see that... 67% bigger gpu, PSSR hardware, 2gb DDR5, improved RT and wifi 7 for $20-70 more.

Fatality.

Look major releases all being crossgen pretty much just ended this fall and already games are stressing ps5 and series x...yeah we got a few patches probably slapped together in a few weeks, however next year we have games being developed totally for this generation alongside the ps5 pro so yeah today it's a luxury not a necessity but ask it again next fall and see what you say

EDMIX

Writes a lot, says very little
Ok, His opinion clearly is shared by many people across the internet
ok...someone being slow and not getting hardware doesn't mean you should jump in with em

Sir, this isn't something that is based on hardware, this is software dependent. NO ONE can fucking guarantee what you are saying, it makes no fucking sense.

The hardware is not magically doing 60fps, the software is determining that perforce, thus, no fucking GPU you buy, no console you buy, nothing like this will state "LOCKED 60fps" or anything wild like this.

So a guaranteed 60fps? Thats crazy, so they know of every single last game that is going to exist in the future and know 100% all those games will be at 60fps? So....I can just make a game will millions of NPCs on screen and it will run 60fps?

I need you to think very logically regarding this so you understand why no one is saying this fucking weird shit. So I'm sure lots of people across the internet think this btw, that isn't really shocking, I'd expect it really...

That doesn't make it correct or smart or this deep idea sir, it means a lot of people don't really have a clue on how any of this works. All companies can do is market what the system can do, they cannot guarantee what all software can do as that is developer dependent.

To say this has failed in any regard, sir what fucking system or GPU have you ever heard released that has ever in its fine print actually promised what you are saying?

So look Dench, a lot of people are laughing at your post cause a lot us understand why the claim makes no sense, this is not really something 100% down to the hardware, this is something based on software in which no company can predict and magically state every game that will ever exist to make such a strange promise or something.

Sony putting Concord on PS+ within 3 months.

He said that would happen?

Ah, that looks like sub pixel shimmering. Is Jedi one of the Pro enhanced game that's confirmed to use PSSR? Could be an artifact of the early days.

EA's patch notes don't really say. Says it is being upscaled, but not how.

Hey there,

Today marks the release of the PlayStation 5 Pro, and as a result, we have announced that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has received a series of exciting optimizations for the new version of the console. This enhanced version features a variety of graphical and technical improvements that make it a must-play experience for those who are picking up the console.

The Star Wars Jedi: Survivor PlayStation 5 Pro enhancements include:

-Visibly higher base resolutions in both Quality and Performance modes.
-Quality mode retains a 4K resolution and ray-traced elements but is now upscaled from 1800p to 2160p
-Performance mode now runs at a higher resolution of 1800p (upscaled from 1200p) and includes raytraced occlusion and reflections while continuing to deliver 60 fps.

We hope you enjoy diving into the full, enhanced experience of Star Wars: Jedi Survivor on the PlayStation 5 Pro. We’re eager to hear how you’re liking it - whether you’ve explored this story before or are coming into it brand new.

Thanks,

The EA Star Wars team

That was the idea yes. Well *ahem* he was sure to correct me when I misquouted our bet once with the game going "free to play" but then funnily enough he tried to weasel out of it claiming the bet was off as Sony cancelled the game... (I'm being a good sport waiting for the 23'rd.)

Cuz the pro is underpowered. We can't even have fidelity and performance in a single mode in most games. The Price is the main issue here, I'm okay spending 800€ but that thing has to be a beast, which it isn't.
The Pro actually does exactly what you describe here. No more needing to worry about fidelity or performance mode with the Pro. FF7 Rebirth is all the proof you need but there are plenty more games as well.

It's a tad underpowered in the CPU dept, but really PSSR is the special sauce doing the magic here.

How so?

Can you elaborate a bit please.
this is a good example of pssr fuck up.

I know we do t like this content here but you can see a huge difference between base ps5 and pro.

Jedi survivor has the same issue. Its like the whole screen is just shimmering all over the place.

Did the Silent Hill 2 ps5 pro update came out? I don't see it came out. Why are you posting a video of a game that dosen't have the ps5 pro update yet?

It usses pssr for upscaling. No other upgrades for now. Store also shows pro enhanced

Problem is its already using pssr and the image shimmer is horrible.

Game was fine on base ps5 but i stopped playing to wait for the pro version.
There is no option to play it in base ps5 mode

Buddy i am looking at my screen here. I am not talking out of my ass like you
Sure you know more than the Silent Hill 2 dev and say it has PSSR that it dosen't say it's supported not even in one patch note.

Did i say you were wrong or that you are lying? That what you say is not true? About the shimmering ? I only told you the PS5 Pro support is not out yet only that. Why are you so salty about it? 😂

I mean, no, of course it isn't. But my RTX3090 wasn't worth the AUD$[redacted] I paid when I bought it. But I didn't buy it because it was worth the money - I bought it because I had the money and I wanted it. That's the enthusiast hardware market - seems odd people looking to justify it after we already did this song and dance for the PS4 Pro.

That's really the crux of it. Enthusiasts are going to want this just because they want the best. There really isn't any need to "justify" anything. But it will always be debated.

And so those who don't have a PS5 and those who have a PS5 clashed in battle, they were joined by those who bought a PS5 PRO and those who refuse to buy a PS5 PRO because they already have a PS5, seeing a bloody battle PC fans decided to join the fight, because without them, no one will figure it out. And there was no end to this battle...

God, I love Neogaf
lmao kinda spot on, and soon enough we have 50-series from Nvidia, ARM entering the desktop space, next Xbox, Xbox handheld, Switch 2, Steam Deck 2, PS6 etc
😅

Yup that's what I gathered from this video.

It's a future proof Console with future games taking full advantage of the hardware. So in essence what we have now with current games is a glimpse of that future.

Still happy with my purchase either way.
It also means no bad ports to series x anymore.

I can’t remember a console ever causing this much salt, aggression, and hate.

Its clear as day to me, some folks are threatened and want to justify their $5000 rig, others seeking revange for constant pounding by Sony for 30 years.

we keep winning mate 🤣

DenchDeckard

Moderated wildly
If 700 dollars is in your budget and you actually play PS5 games, it's a no brainer.

If you can't afford it, you can't afford it.

The best way to look at it is this. How much are you willing to pay for a GPU upgrade to your PS5?

If you are in the camp of "it's not a significant upgrade" then I'm sorry, you are trying to convince yourself, not us. It is, and nearly every relevant new game that comes out will be better on the Pro.

If you are of the "it may not receive support" camp then you don't understand how any of this works and you should kinda research a bit I think. Again this is wishful thinking.

The only argument against the Pro that really has any basis in truth is that you cannot afford it. I understand and that does suck. However, if Sony offered a GPU upgrade via software that did the same thing on vanilla PS5 for free, are you telling me you would not want the upgrade? Of course you would. Everyone who owns a ps5, and I mean everyone, wants a free gpu upgrade. They just don't want to pay for it.

Here you go:

She: What kind of woman do you think I am?
He: We’ve already established that. Now we’re just haggling over the price.

PS: Also "Sony charged too much" is an argument against Sony and not the Pro. You are mad at Sony. That said, the XSX with similar SSD size and no upgrades is not much cheaper, so I think if you honestly compare the hardware costs vs what you get, it isn't that much overpriced, but that is just my opinion and well unrelated to the Pro's performance while gaming, which is elite. Every day that goes by, every game that comes out, we will be getting more for our investment here. Each new game that is pro enhanced increases the value of the pro itself.

Plenty of people have the money to buy this thing. But if you watch the video and actually listen to what is being said. There are those that think a pro console should come with all the bells and whistles. The disk drive etc and that maybe the jump is not as big as what was seen with the ps4 pro going from 1080p to 4k.

It's not that hard.

Great effort. The defence has now moved to highlighting the shortcomings of a cheap entry level console that was designed for those who can't afford an expensive high powered console and it's ability to deliver a gaming experience but gimped due to its hardware choices for its price.

You are now trying to use this as a gotcha in defence of a PRI console that costs over double the price of a series s but at its current state shows similarities to that console in how it is delivering its experiences. As always you get all the likes from the guaranteed Sony crowd.

You guys can't take any genuine criticism of anything Sony.

Pathetic.
