Monster Hunter 3 Tri Official Site Updated

I would just like to state that Nintendo is doing a really damn good job marketing this so far in my opinion :O

For me it doesn't matter much directly because I would be buying it no matter what as a fan, but indirectly, more players, more success, means only more monster hunter for me. Go go Nintendo! And thanks Capcom for making this game in the first place.

For someone who never played a Monster Hunter game, is it worth it to play the single player before going online? Or is it fine to go online right away, like Diablo II for exemple?
Most definitely. Single Player is still very very fun and it's a good idea that you build up your equipment set and skill before going online.

Not to forget that the best skills are usually learned offline (much easier to recognize patterns than in a chaotic group). When I play my PSP (online through PC) it's easy to see who did their training quests and who did not. Those who did not, rely on more defense and lots of potion drinking and just striking 'till getting hit :lol

Pretty Much.
Actually, I sometimes use that last tactic myself, when I'm feeling lazy :lol.

Anyway, Since I'm doing the Official thread, I need to think of a name for it. How do you guys like "The Official Monster Hunter Tri Thread of Rehab Didn't Work"? I'm not entirely happy with the choice of words but I like the idea of using something to highlight the addictive nature of the series.

I think the amount of people overlapping with the PS2/PSP/Wii versions isn't enough to justify that title. I hope you can think of a better one.

My suggestions:

The Official Monster Hunter Tri Thread of Everyone using Long Swords (you know it will happen ._.)
The Official Monster Hunter Tri Thread of 100 hours in means you're just a newbie
The Official Monster Hunter Tri Thread of Dying. A lot.
The Official Monster Hunter Tri Thread of Cursing Online Pedo Strangers (if Wii Speak is accessible to everyone)
The Official Monster Hunter Tri Thread of People Online Core Gaming on their Wii
The Official Monster Hunter Tri Thread of Classic Controller vs Wii Remote Debates
The Official Monster Hunter Tri Thread of Guys playing as Girls (That would be me ._.)
The Official Monster Hunter Tri Thread of Carving a Living Kelbi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bgKJ-jIm34)

etc. etc.

Some of those suggestions are pretty good. I particularly like the bolded one. Well I still have plenty of time so I'll keep working on it.

This MH thing is confusing because there is so much to it. Capcom Unity even posted clrification: http://www.capcom-unity.com/

-There will be the game for $50 or a bundle with the game and a Classic Controller Pro for $60.
-A demo disk will be available for anyone who walks into a Gamestop for free. No preorder required.
-Anyone preordering at Gamestop will get $5 off the price making it $55 for the bundle and $45 for the game
-In addition to the $5 off you get a 500 Nintendo point card with your preorder.

So the game essentially costs $40 or $50 for the bundle.

Bowgun and Hammer for me...AGAIN. Maybe Lance instead of Hammer, though. I originally did lance in the first MH release and I was really good at it. And no I didn't headlock or even know what that was at the time, I pretty much annex myself from most of the MH community as they are kind of/sort of psychos. My MH experience will forever remain as a 2-player gig.

In honor of the psychos, you could always title the thread "Monster Hunter Tri thread of my weapon is better than yours" or "Monster Hunter Tri thread of using items is cheating"

Im sure with MH3 you'll run into normal people :lol

Also I just found out about switch axes.

For someone who has been playing MH since the original beta for NA (and logged in roughly 1500 hours on MH through all the iterations), I'm super stoked for Tri. New stages! New monsters!! New armor!!! Max Guild Hall rank being 99!!!! MH Tri is the only reason why Ive finally decided to get a Wii. :D

I'm glad online will be free here. Good move or else Capcom and Nintendo would've send it to die.

The game looks great. Famitsu said the single player is awesome so I'm looking forward to it.

Slash axes? I'll most likely be favouring Hammers myself. They've really been improved for MH3.
I think it will be lances. As usual.

I bet you all will be comparing who can have the max number of skills in an armor combination next time, and not to mention 'skills'.

HR 999 this time round, happy playing.

Major in GS, Minor in SnS for me

Shit I'm at 70hours now for MHFU and I'm still HR3/4-Star Elder.
Then again, I've played pretty casually for the past couple months...

I'll prolly go longsword and lance. As for the MH crazies, I only play online with people I know well, like you do, but I think my group will end up being four.

I read somewhere once that the regions are locked, is this true? Because I really want to play at least once with every GAF member but I hope I can connect to Americans while I am in Europe.

Edit: nvm, just found in the summit page it's region locked [for now..??]... :(

After the announcements yesterday, I feel pretty certain that I'll be picking this up. This is my first Monster Hunter, so naturally I have few questions.

Will there be any special event type missions like in PSO? I know Famitsu has some in Japan but can we expect to see them over here?

Can you do a combination of online and splitscreen? (i.e. 4 of us want to play on 2 Wiis)

Am I right in assuming the game's play style is along the lines of PSO and Demon Souls?

Does the health of enemies scale with the number of players in a party?

Damn region locking. Beyond that, though, yeah... I can't imagine anything more Nintendo could do to get this into people's hands. They're going all out for this thing. Some TV ads would be nice.

Yeah aside from actually paying people to play there's not much they can....wait a minute..

I'm already a little overwhelmed just reading the last page...is this going to be at least mildly accessible to someone who has never played a Monster Hunter game before?

Is the offline balanced? Or will I be dying a lot because I'm expected to grind, or ridiculous difficulty spikes?

In a way, they are paying people back slightly for buying it. The 500 Wii Points card is pretty nice.

Capcom did mentioned that there are downloadable contents so I assume they are event quests like the jp ver.

You can only play colosseum mode offline 2 players splitscreen on a single wii. For 4 players online you need 4 wiis. You cannot combine them.

Game is as grinding as pso and with combat deeper than demon's soul.

Crap. Will probably still look forward to it, but half of the people I would play this online with are in the same house.

Can't wait for this to release. I've only had the chance to put in around 15 hours to MHFU, but it's been a blast so far. It'll be nice to retract the claw for awhile.

Don't worry. By hard we mean challenging in a good way (which, to be honest, almost all games lack nowadays). It's not Ghost 'n Goblins hard, but it's definitely nearing that level. Never unfair though, so you keep thinking you can improve yourself. By 100 hours in = just a newbie comment, it simply means this game is huge and has plenty to do. It will take a loooong time to get bored. But it's not that grindy crap that most RPGs throw at you. You're not playing to get that end-gear. You're playing for the gameplay. The longevity is better compared to something like unlocking achievements in a Left 4 Dead game. Except campaigns are quests here. And there are tons of quests in this game.

I've heard Monster Hunter Tri is much friendlier for newbies, because there are tutorial mission in the beginning? Correct me if I'm wrong.

But yeah, expect some deaths. You can die 3 times in a mission (the money reward lowers each time though) before it fails and sends you back to the town, so it's okay. But it's deaths we remember from old school games. Dying has impact, whereas games nowadays never put you in situation where you might die or respawn you so close with no penalties, feeling like you basically never died.

There will probably be some new downloadable missions from time to time, but it's usually just unlocking what's already on the disc. This happens with the event items with Famitsu and earning things like a Famitsu shirt. Just for fun. Sometimes the quests can be funny too, like killing a bunch of cats.

Split-screen is only for a seperate offline mode where you battle in an arena. None of the main quests or online quests. So nope, to play with 4 people, you need 4 Wii's.

Not sure about Demon Souls since I don't own it, but from what I've seen, yeah, PSO + Demon Souls is a good description. Minus all RPG aspects. It's just gear-based and hunter rank (which does nothing except unlock better missions).

Enemy health doesn't scale (so more players is better) but the same monsters in online missions have more health than in offline missions. So solo'ing online missions is not recommended (though possible, also fun for showcasing skills on youtube).

You will be fine, MH scales itself upwards. You will learn the basics early on and then adapt as the missions and levels get harder.

Ohhhh I get it now, CC1 and CC2 are the names of control modes, not someone calling the CC Pro the CC2. Phew, my claw nightmares are finally over! :lol
Oh wow, Luigiv's answer post to my question suddenly looks totally different if I look at it from your angle. :lol

The funny thing is that it slightly makes sense too, CC2 is PS2 style, CC1 is PSP style xD

I've only played Monster Hunter for about 2 hours on PSP, so aside from killing herbivores and little raptor things i'm a total noob.

How long does it take to become competent with the game? Also, about how long does it take for you to get into fighting the tougher monsters game wise? How's the economy system?

*fist bump* We'll be venturing into relatively unknown territory together, my man. That's about the same amount of time I put into the series prior to now.

Preordered my bundle a while ago. I'm extremely excited about this game. I am a newcomer however so I suppose I'll be in for quite a treat. One thing has been bothering though. Is it preferred to specialize in two different weapons to switch between or simply one?

You definitely want to learn how to use more than one weapon because some weapon are better for/against different kind of monsters.

So what's the deal with the controller in the bundle? Is the standard Wii setup not cool or what? I haven't ever played a Monster Hunter game, but I'm interested in Monster Hunter 3 from what I've seen and read on the surface.
