Monster Hunter 3 Tri Official Site Updated

Finally, I got the MH3 demo yesterday.

The game's tough but I managed to beat both monsters with the Slash Axe and Long Sword :) Gotten really used to the controls (I used CC1 style). The controls aren't "clunky" at all if you give it a few hours of playing and get used to it. Then it's pretty easy.

Anyway SA and LS FTW and I'll be using them for the final game. So far it's been pretty fun :D

Well that gives me a nice excuse not to use it, but that doesn't really help.
Just joking. Maybe you can share the problem faced while using the lance so I can advise.

Do remember to try out the new counter move, it's dam awesome. Not to forget the shield bash which helps to close down on the distance between the monster and you.

That's a really good vid. Only difference between you and me is that I wait and use more lvl 2 charges (usually does more damage than a smaller combo with the lvl 1 upswing) and I immediately circle to hit his head when he's on the ground. It does a lot more damage than just going for body and since you usually still have enough time to triple pound it's a great way to make him dizzy for another 15 seconds of free punishing (oh and you break his beak which helps :] ). Nice job though. :D
By lv2 charges do you mean the super pound? Tri really encourages non super pounds because pre-super pound charges combo into the triple pound (which is by far, stronger than the super pound) and super pounding is a bad habit for multi player (sending people flying away), so every chance I could avoid using it, I did.

Plus super pounding is boring to watch on videos xD

Thanks for watching :)

Like, can't-beat-Jaggi don't get the lance.
You travel with hops. Example: Qurupeco is gonna do the triple fire thing: you look left or right and backhop to dodge it. After the last hop you poke. Diagonal pokes are stronger than horizontal pokes. The trick to the lance is using the sidesteps and backhops... because you can do it 3 times in a row :O

It's very elegant once done right. Though personally I still think it's a bit boring to play with.

Lmao, someone at work just told me that one of the reasons MH is so hard and revolves around teamwork is due to the fact that you can actually hit your other teammates...is this true!? If so, then it will be quite a new dynamic I wasn't expecting to encounter in this type of game :lol

You can hit each other but it wont damage you.
I suppose indirectly as if they knock you over and then you get steamrolled by something you lose HP.

My favorite class in the demo was gunner and my favorite ammo was the buckshot ammo(whatever its called). It would be pretty difficult not to hit allies when I'm spraying bullets all over the place. Will this screw other players the way you're talking about?

Avoid using that bullet during team play, your team mate will hate you.

Ok I have pre-ordered this game and am awaiting it.. How Action based is this game? not and RPG lover usually but the multiplay is what will sell it for me.. any other impressions or stuff I can look forward to?

EDIT

many thanks Alex will look through them now :D

You know, you could just sift through the thread as some people are probably tired of write previews and information break downs! I know I am, I'm getting lazy after about doing it a dozen times.

Here are a few of the summaries I tried to make, though:

Lots of folks have made some really good posts on it in general.

I've never played a Monster Hunter game but this looks interesting. What is the gameplay like? I've always assumed it was pokemon esque meets PSO sort of thing

I'm terrible at the demo. Can't even beat the first 1 star mission lol. I need to really sit down and learn the controls a little better. I swear I spent my entire time limit just shooting him in the face with the heavy bow and I only really noticed that when he was running away he was limping. I'm going back to kick his ass in a few minutes.

Hey so I was wondering what character creation/customization was like. Found a video here (+related videos). Do you get the option later on to change your appearance similar to PSO's dressing room?

Just got the demo yesterday. Never played a MH game, so it was new to me.

Anyway, this game is HARD. Harder than any game I've been in years. To me, this is pain I haven't felt in gaming since the late Genesis days.

I just can't beat Qurupeco. I've almost shattered his beak, but I just don't have enough time to actually finish him off. I'm using the switch axe, as I took care of the raptor thing (forgot it's name) pretty easily with it, and I actually know the comboes of it.

Is the real game this difficult? Is there always a time limit or is that a demo thing only? It's such a pretty looking game, but if I can't explore and have to watch my time while hunting; it just doesn't seem as nice as if I were allowed to hunt at my leisure.

Hey, I wrote up an impression for the demo. I'd never heard of this series until Tri was announced for the Wii and didn't pay any attention to it until recently. Now I'm really excited to play it. I've been watching far too many MH videos on YouTube. I have a question though. Can you still recruit the little cat people to take into battle? I know you can hire them but I'm unclear on what role they play in this game. I'm not too hot on the chacha critters.

Guys, Ive been playing the demo recently. To be honest I didn't think I'd like it. I played the 1st one on the PSP a few years back and I just found thegame frustrating. Camera issues, loading. I also found the game to be kinda hard and didn't get very far.

But, I REALLY seem to be liking this. Most of the issues are bascally gone. My favourite weapon is the axesword or whatever its called. Beat the 1 star mission after 2-3 tries. But guys, you wouldn't believe what happened to me in the 2nd mission. When fighting Qurupeco, I got its health down by quite a bit. It normally calls for backup and the JAGGI comes along. But on one of the tries when he called for help, the WYVERN came down and and just kicked the shit out of me. :lol What a suprise. Cant wait for the actual game to release.

Lance takes a lot of practice. When I first picked up MHF2 I thought lance was the coolest thing ever so I tried to main it. Got to the kut-ku (much like the Quro if you haven't played) and had an extremely difficult time. If anything I would suggest getting your bearings on an easier weapon and if you'd like to, go back to the lance to try it out. After you get a better understanding of the basics (e.g. never standing in front of a monster, always circle strafing, etc.) it's much easier to go back and try different or more difficult weapons.

Yea, it is pretty bad for multi. I always send my friend flying (half of the time on purpose) because of it. :lol. Hopefully I'll be more helpful instead of hurtful in Tri with the lance. And yes it is really boring to watch 100% super pound on vids but when you see someone use it a few times with good precision it isn't horrible to watch. I wish I had someway to record and I'd load up an example vid. =/ oh well.

Nope, you can only change your hair or costume (those default one) later on.

Nope, there is only Cha Cha in MH3. And I kinda like Cha Cha more cause he makes this funny sound.

Question: When you start a new game, are you permanently stuck with the weapon class you chose at the beginning of the game or are you free to switch to a different weapon class later on ?

I'm still not sure what weapon I want to start off with because there's a lot of them I'd like to spend more time playing with.

The long sword is really easy and fun to use.

The sword and shield felt like the easiest weapon to use.

The great sword was kind of hard to use but being able to use it as a shield definetly comes in handy.

The switchaxe looks like the coolest weapon in the game but I need to spend more time getting used to its capabilities.

I really liked the hammer a lot but it's going to take some getting used to its short attack range.

Wasn't fond of the lance or the bowgun.

You can make and have all types of weapons in your arsenal and pick what you like to use.

Game is not only about the different weapon classes, in actual fact, you define what you want to be on the field thru armor skill set. You can be a medic, a trap setter, a miner, a status attack specialist, a playmaker, a brute force hunter, an evader, a knock down specialist, a clown, anything you can think of. So do remember to have different armor combination set for each type of weapon for the different monsters, that is the way of a hunter!

For eg. Sword & Shield - You can have armor skills like: Consume item fast + range healing + Healing up, that will turn you into a medic on the field! Experiment and play around!

I assume the wyvern is the giant dragon thing?

Because that got called down on me literally every time I tried that mission. I still haven't beaten it. :(

Complete MH newb here...

After seeing the art and seeing ads in Japan all over the place last year my interest grew! This topic reminded me to go out and get the demo.

Tried the first monster with the lance... that was a mistake:lol

I like the lance but it'll take a lot of getting used to.

I came back with the long sword and easily beat it. Tried him again with the switch ax =) I rather like the switch ax!

My sister played as well and died her first try too. She uses the heavy bowgun thing:D

I donno where all the complaining about the camera comes from. Yeah, it's a little confusing at first but it's not that bad o.0 I can see it becoming a thoughtless process with practice.

ME WANT FULL GAME NOW.

So I preordered this game knowing nothing of the series other than watching people play the import version on youtube. Looks interesting. I was looking up the wiki and it looks like the online has more missions to do so thats good. Do you have to have a pre planned party or can I go into the town and find random people on to group up with? Game lobbies? I think some of them are online in the import version but since I can't read japanese it kind of makes it hard to see what they were doing to get grouped up. :lol

Im guessing the small city serves as a lobby, and from there you make a room for others to join. Grab a hunt/gathering/whatever mission, then adventure time.

It's like hunting, using your weapons and your experience of your hunt's lifestyle and habitats. Except you are hunting giant dinosaurs.

Yes, "the giant dragon thing" is actually a wyvern
and she's hardly "giant".

If you don't know the difference, dragons have 6 limbs (fore legs, wings and hind legs) whilst wyverns have 4 (wings and hind legs).

Hey, anyone else kill both the Great Jaggi and the Qurupeco on one 20 minute run (possible when the Qurupeco summons the jaggi for help)? That was my crowning achievement on the demo. I still haven't mastered consistently cooking non burned meat though.

Also, once when Qurupeco summoned the dragon thing, I tried to get the dragon to take out the Qurupeco. It took a lot of running around and positioning Qurupeco between myself and Rathias. Didn't quite manage it but it was fun to try.

If you haven't played MH on the PS2 or PSP the camera is quite a bit harder to use than on the Wii. On the Wii you can run and move the camera at the same time via the Right analog or D-pad on the Wiimote. Whereas on the PSP you have to move your thumb off the analog stick to the d-pad to rotate the camera. Only way to help out a bit more is you can center the camera with the Left shoulder button which is key for advanced hunting. I haven't actually played any MH on the PS2 but from what I hear the camera controls are identical to PSP.

Oh and then there's those who complain about the non-lockon feature. But that just leads to the argument of what makes MH what it is :lol.

Sort of, except that it's possible to reach the D-pad with your right thumb, so I'd say it was a little better.

You can also "finger hook", which is using your left index finger to control the camera (directional pad) while your left thumb stays on the analog stick. It's worked really well for me.

Got that over priced thing GAME have preordered now. Super excited to be finally getting a Classic Controller Pro
and Monster Hunter Tri

I guess am the only one still using the crawling method for MH3, reason because I really like to use the right analog for attacking. Sometimes I use the 'finger hook' method or I will use my right thumb to run on the left analog and left thumb to pan the camera, depending on the situation.

I'm not sure if this question has been answered yet, but does anyone know if Monster Hunter Tri will allow players to trade equipment (armor and/or weapons) for the online multiplayer ?

No. You can only trade common items. Equipment and crafting materials can not be traded so you actually need to work for your equipment. No twinking.

Understood. :D

Thanks for the quick reply. I had no idea about what to expect in terms of some of the general features of the Monster Hunter franchise.

After reading the latest Game Informer, you can head to a small village for SP quests or the city for MP quests.
