Monster Hunter 3 Tri Official Site Updated

I got the demo at my Gamestop today, and they were adamant on it being a preorder bonus. It also has GameStop branding and says "Reserve Now!"

I think thats the problem. Its got reserve now plastered on the front, but its not a preorder bonus. So Capcom, get on it if you want non MH fans to get involved.

That why the partner ship with GS/EB was so stupid. GS/EB knows how to capitalize and of course Capcom is going to let this happen because it helps sell their game.

Called a couple of Gamestops in my area, one said I had to preorder to get the demo while the other was just giving them away so I have no idea whats going.

Its free. The only bonus is the extra wii points and 5 bucks off retail price at pickup.

EDIT: This might work with high profile stuff like God of War 3, but no one thats not already interested in the game is going to walk in and preorder MH3 just for the demo. The demo is really to draw people in.

Much like the old EB games demos (Rayman for Sega Saturn had a free pick up demo, would've never bought the game if I hadnt have played that demo).

I'd email Capcom, and print out the email or blog post and take it to the gamestop that wont let you get it without preorder.

If anyone is unsure if they really should pick up the demo, it comes with a free control map poster. If that baby doesn't lure you in, nothing will.

Just pre-ordered the special bundle. I don't know anyone who's going to have this game so I hope some online are willing to play with me. :lol

I used unassailable logic to procure mine.

"Do you have the Monster Hunter 3 demo?"

"Yes, but only if you pre-order."

"Oh, nevermind. I wanted the demo to help decide."

"Tell you what. Take it home and try it, but promise you'll pre-order it."

"...Sure."

(Edit: Haven't popped it in yet. What the hell control configuration should I be using again? I have a Wii/Nunchuk and the original CC.)

I got the demo but my Gamestop forced me to pre-order to get it sadly.

I was planning on getting the game anyway though so whatever.

Yep, knew it was free just relaying my story about how one of the Gamestops tried to trick me into preordering it(should have made that more clear in my other post) Played the game a bit but not sure what to think of it.

This is the greatest logic ever. Everyone needs to read this. :lol

I just called Gamestop, they have it in but refuse to give it away, except as a pre-order bonus. Any appeals to logic were useless. Putting my pre-order down using nothing but small change.

How do you dash with the classic controller?

EDIT: Nevermind, its R.

Wow at the monsters, animations, sounds, and everything. Amazing.

Knowing GameStop, I'd suspect the latter.

I just argued it with the idiot (without getting irate) and when he couldn't find proof that it wasn't free, he finally gave up. You'd think Capcom would have (and they probably did) made damn sure they'd know the damn thing is free WITHOUT a pre-order.

Now I'm off to play it.

I wonder if its just they dont know, or want to use it as bait.

They don't know. Employees are making a reasonable assumption based on past experience. There was absolutely no documentation or instructions included with the demos. I've already stated this several times.

Jaggi leaders...damn retail is going to be awesome communicating with others online and teaming up to take things down. Pack mentality is awesome.

Ah got it. Guess it has been awhile since Gamestop has been able to give away something totally free.

I got the demo and yeah they asked for me to preorder it. Luckily there was a cute clerk that snuck me a disc for preordering three other games. :D

Tried the demo. Was very frustrating. Very slow. Very methodical. Wasn't really having fun except when I was trying out the Hammer.

Is this the kind of game that needs multiplayer? Because the demo kinda turned me off. =/
This game certainly needs multiplayer more than any other game out there. Anw I will show you guys speed kills videos next time by elite japanese hunters. Maybe after you guys finish the game.

I felt the same way at first. But I kept messing around with it and eventually the controls sorta clicked for me. I then started focusing on damaging just certain parts of the monsters and trying to memorize/avoid their attacks. That grew to predictive counter attacking. Before I knew it, I was hooked.

The best way for me to describe it is that, to me, it was a lot like my first taste of Demon's Souls. The first 30 minutes of play time convinced me that I had wasted money on an import. But after an hour or so with it, I found the depth of the gameplay and discovered the games personality and character.

Though my monster hunting experience is limited to the short demo, I have a feeling like MH3 will be much the same in terms of gaining appreciation for the game with time spent. (And I'm sure the more experienced players here can easily confirm/deny what I'm thinking.)
Yap you are certainly right there. However the final game will have a lot more depth than the demo. In actual fact, the game is so deep that even after 1000 hrs, I bet you are still learning.

I really don't want to have to go through this with with my local game stop. I wish Capcom had done this through another store. Target for example would have been a better choice.

I need to learn switch axes and relearn sword+shield. I mean, how do you combo between axe and sword mode? Or are you supposed to use a certain type for special situations?

For the people who are just playing the MH series for the first time, everyone sucks at first. It's not so punishing online because you've got 3 others to help you out, but you do get better, the controls become second nature and you start to feel like a badass when you can just dance around these beasts making them your little playthings.

Don't give up!

Cool. I love a game that takes more than 5 minutes to master. Button mashers are fun, but no where near as fulfilling as a skilled and creative victory against a non-cheap AI. (Which is the feeling I'm getting from this thread concerning MH3.)

For Switch Axes, its certainly not an easy weapon to pick up. There are only 2 moves during combos that allows you to switch between the 2 modes other than the stationary position.

For Axe, its the forward thrust attack. For sword, its the backward swing. Its hard to put in words, let me find you a video.

Ignore the Wiiremote if you are not using that control method
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Sa96NDSPoY

Experience switch axes user will usually use sword mode as it consist of elemental attack in every hit. And they will judge the gauge and switch back to axe to continue their combo while accumulating the gauge and switch back to sword again when the time is right. As for the rate the gauge depletes, in the final game you can set a certain skill in your armor to enable you to do so. Another thing for sword mode is that the hits won't bounce + super armor(will suffer damage but won't be knock off) hence its the preferred mode for expert. Side step is also a very important move for switch axes.

As for Sword n Shield, one of the most important new attack is the shield attack. Try mastering that.

One thing missing in the demo disk is the ability to customize armors parts and skills to suit individuals play style which I felt its pretty important.

So any Canadians manage to get the game?

I went to Gamestop and the guys like "Yeah so the Game comes out in April, come back near then and we should have some info on the demo".

*sigh* I hate Gamestop.

Do you think multiplayer might make me go from "Ehhhhh...." to "This game is awesome"?

Being that this series in known for being a bit clunky and hard I was worried I wouldn't get into the game but I had a ton of fun playing the demo. I know I'll have a lot more fun if I get to play online too!

One Gamestop/Ebgames told me that they got an email from the head office saying it's a US-only thing and they're looking into it. :'(

What the fuck Capcom, you confirmed Canada's getting it.

So i picked up the demo and pretty much nabbed the controls really fast. Picked Sword and Shield and made it through the first Quest.Loving it so far cant wait till i can do muti with others. ^_^

Dam you guys, I am just trying to
recruit new hunters
:lol No need to lie to them, Just let them know that they should just give it more time and eventually it'll click. It can't be instantaneous for everyone.

Personally I recommend that newbies playing the demo stay away from the Great Sword at first. Connecting with it can be difficult for first timers so you're better off using a faster weapon like Swords & Shields or Hammers (my personal favourite from the Japanese Demo).

I called my local GameStop earlier today and the employee said that the store won't get the free demo discs until a "few weeks."

I got my pre-order of the MH3 bundle online at GameStop's website. I may stop by tomorrow and show them a copy of my pre-order receipt and a printed flyer that says that the demo is free and not supposed to be a pre-order bonus item.

For the record, this will also be my first playing playing a Monster Hunter game.

Didn't have time to pick up a demo disc today , will try tomorrow.
Quick question, can you play with a gamecube controller?
I've heard it's pretty terrible to play with the wiimote/nunchuck set up

No GCN controller support. You'll need a classic controller to play with traditional controls. If you don't have one, Wiimote + Nunchuck controls are perfectly fine. They're a little more complicated to use, but they also offer extra flexibility so it balances out.

Nope and I found the wiichuck format to be fine. You may have to take that with a grain of salt though since this is my first MH.

edit: beaten ever so slightly.

Whats this talk about Endless Ocean 2 Bundle with free Wiispeak? Is this limited? Whats the point of the unbundled game being the same price?

I guess Im picking up Endless Ocean 2 bundle on Friday...

Do you think you can load the saves from the demo into the full version once it is released? To get a head start.
Why? There doesn't really seem to be anything else to do than hunt. There's no way of handling what you've carved or collected. Or am I missing a huge feature of the demo?
