Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Demo out [Updated: FAQ and Help]

Finished uploading the rest of the videos to my MH3U tutorial set. Still missing a couple of weapons, but at least it covers the main ones :]

Potentially considering doing a more advanced tutorial, to cover the post-basics side of things...

Need to get yourself a man cave.

haha, I have one but the Wii is in the living room since it's more of a group play type of system but I am thinking about getting an extra power adapter/sensor bar so it's easier to move around if I end up buying a game that doesn't offer off-screen play like this one.

btw, I tried the game out and it's great, I never played a MH game before but it's addicting.

edit: When I was playing as the long range heavy bow person (looks like a sniper rifle), I ended up running out of ammo and it said to "change ammo" but I couldn't figure how to do that. Do I have to kill other animals around me and make more ammo? Or can you buy it at your camp before you set out to kill the monster?

Very appreciated! I'll have a look through some more in a bit :). I'll send it around to some friends who definitely need the help too :D. Thanks!

I played the MH3 demo for Wii and was unimpressed. I recall some people saying the demo wasn't really representative of the full game. Is this demo for 3DS more representative of the actual game?

Control and mechanics wise yes. But the meat and potatoes of the actual game are the weapon/armor crafting and online (in this case local) play IMO.

The Kelbi Bow is actually the most powerful weapon in MH3U as far as I know.
Interesting. I'll have to look at the numbers when I'm crafting, definitely something to keep in mind.

If you also get it we need to hunt together! Maybe send a me a PM with your WiiU name.
Sure! :) Although I don't know if I'll be able to actually get it on day 1. Still could use more WiiU friends anyway. ^_^ NNID is GAFHaunted.

I think what they are getting at is the progression. The demo is just pretty much showcasing a battle, but doesn't give you the sense of planning, such as gear consideration, items crafted (trapping, bombs, etc.) It just supplies you with good armor and weapon and a plethora of items. So, in essence, it is robbing you of half the game, which is preparation. Hunting and Gathering. Gathering is pretty much omitted.

You can change the ammo by using L I believe.

You can only bring a limited amount of ammo for most types (fire, poison, crag etc). Only the normal type is infinite.
You can buy the level 1 and 2 ammo in stores but you have to make the level 3 versions. These are more powerful. They are usually made from berries and monster parts.

Hold L, select ammunition with X and B. Then let go of L and press X to reload, obviously. You can do a quick reload if you press X+A while running with with your weapon sheathed, by the way. Very helpful if you want to change your position and ammo type at the same time.

excellent, I'll try this out. Thanks lizardus too

Any clue if there'll be an option to stream the audio through the gamepad in the full game? I looked and couldn't find anything like that in the demo.

Man, I've asked everywhere and nobody seems to know.

I'm really curious about loadtimes in the retail disc vs eshop version as well, but I suppose you'd need to have both Japanese versions or work for Capcpcom to know.

I would assume that if you had enough room on the internal storage of the Wii U, that would have the best load times due to it being flash memory.

Nope, it's pretty much the same shit, you hunt two monsters with preset items and equips. This is like arena quests, which most people hate, this is why the demo sucks so much.

Indeed, which is why I'm curious. Capcom allowed you to install the later PSP games to circumvent awful UMD loadtimes though, so it might have a data install option.

The loadtimes in the wii u demo are lightning fast, and I'd like to keep it that way. For most games I wouldn't give a crap but you spend a lot of time transitioning between zones in MH.

Thank you guys. I can dig it about learning on your own. And I'm not too proud to GameFAQ/youtube it up. And I'll be interested in looting with some of you fine folk. I'm very interested in it now. Is there a large hub area or do you just jump into each mission?

Also, would some say the interest is in making vastly different weapons and seeing the different effects? Also, can you have a ton of weapons? A ton of weapons in each category? Or is there a limit?

okay question to veteran bow users, is there a way to draw out your bow either A) without nocking an arrow, or draw out bow and go straight into a coating reload sort of like the bow gun?

Yea, I get what you mean. I homebrewed my Wii and put Monster Hunter Tri on an external drive so I can preserve my Wii's disc drive and I noticed a huge loading difference, especially online where I would go to the new area faster than everyone else, even if they were ahead by a bit.

Don't worry, the Monster Hunter series is a community-driven game. It would be more surprising if you didn't check anything online and played the games. And there is a hub area where you can meet up with hunters, it is a limit of 4 people. I'll edit my post that has a video of it.

You can make tons of weapons, there are hundreds of weapons to choose from and you aren't limited to how many you can make. Only thing holding you back will be limited amount of resources, which is why you hunt. :)

VVVVVV Surprised there isn't one VVVVVVV

First one is possible, just press X and not hold it. Second one I don't think so, could be possible, but I don't know of a way to do it.

Thanks. Tried the demo and it pretty much was the same thing, but I disliked it less this time for whatever reason. Does the game always have time limits on hunts? And what was the button that let me use my shield in the sword+shield setup? I noticed I could hit people with it.

load times when moving map is 1-2 seconds faster load comfortably in fine hunter or blacksmith is gone flat around loading. Also, the time it takes to change area is almost halved

interesting! Sounds like eshop version for me then. There's nothing like the amazon $20 off deal for getting both versions or any preorder bonuses for Canada, and I'll get a bit back from the deluxe digital thing.

Some hunts have no limit, while others give you plenty of time to complete. You mean the shield attack? I think it's Forward (which ever direction you're facing) + A.

As with any weapon, if you pres X while not moving you'll just draw it out without attacking. In most cases this lets you get the weapon out more quickly if that's all you're trying to do. The annoying bit of it for the bow (at least that I've noticed) is that your character seems to need to be at or near a full stop for it to work, so there's a slight big of lag between when you let go of the control stick and when your hunter actually slows to a halt. Especially tricky if you're trying to go from full sprint to a standing draw.

just for reference, I played Tri for 12 hours before realizing that my partner was going to be bored to death if I played it for 80 hours... so I've been waiting for this for a while.

I managed to finish the snow quest with Sword and Shield, Dual Swords and Long sword. Are there any combos lists anywhere? I felt I managed to figure out some of them but also that I pulled some moves that I didn't figure out how to repeat.

Also any idea what the abilities on the Switch Axe armor are because it feels like the stamina specifically for that build drains a lot faster than the other weapon builds.

I don't know what the abilities on it are. It's the Ceadeus armor and Axe, so the axe is water element I believe, which already makes it not the best weapon to use against Plesioth.

In Tri it had HG Earplugs, Sharpness +1, Demonic Blessing, and Blunt Edge but someone said they redid the skills for Ultimate and I can't seem to find a list anywhere.

You can beat any monster with any weapon type if you're good enough. Or prepared enough. I don't know of any that are particularly bad for switchaxe, though. Jho is the big challenge and SA is great against him.

I always seemed to have the most trouble with Barioth, but I think that's got less to do with the weapon and more with his moveset. I did take him down with a hammer from time to time just because it felt a little more suited to fighting him. Plus there's nothing quite like the feeling of slamming a giant hammer into his big stupid face and busting his teeth.

There's a move list a page or so back in this thread.

EDIT: It was pushed back further than I thought. This thread moves fast http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=48114885&postcount=1957

well yeah, some monsters are easier with certain weapons which is why it's good to learn more than one. Barioth being a great example, because his head is easy to hit and he becomes utterly pathetic when exhausted. So hammers dominate him completely.

Never doubt digital.

Any word on the digital size of the game? I have found some information saying it will be at least 6.2 gigs.

Google translated from the official site here: "In order to download "(Tri) G HD Ver. MH3" 6.2GB or more of free space is required in the body Wii U."

This better be available for download at midnight on release day or I might go crazy.

it's playing in this video, so yes.

edit: I'm too slow!

Man I need to find some of these importer people and ask them about the gamepad headphone thing.

It is! Thanks for posting that, I never heard it before, it sounds so nice.

Thanks! good to know. I was worried since i couldnt find a video with the track in it.
Interesting. so the track isnt exclusive for the bear-badger fight.

Too poor to buy a Wii U atm, but it seems I still got it :) *completely crushed 3DS demo*

It feels so weird to actually have a shadow of your character and monster in this game. And it was quite impressive to see the shine on Plessy when it got out of the water :o
