Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Demo out [Updated: FAQ and Help]

According to my activity log I've played the MH3U demo for 5 hours and change. I just keep going back to it! Finally managed to stagger Plesioth. I find Ples easier in water than inland. Its slide and tail sweep moves are just incredibly annoying on land!

I only burned through one use before I tried out every single weapon. I think it topped my activity log with an average play time of 3:55. Only reason I switched away from it was FE:A. Shoot, I haven't even touched Crashmo yet. Got that same time as the demo on sale.

The demo has become my the highest Average Play Time game due to me saving those demo uses. I racked up 22 hours and 42 minutes. Though I have probably left it on just idly sitting there and not playing.

I tried to use that fishing trick someone used in plesioth in a video with the hunting horn and it won't let me fish for it. What gives?

Might just be that I'm reading your sentence wrong, but to be clear, the hunting horn has nothing to do with fishing. You need to get the frog out of the blue box when you first start the hunt.

You also can't fish out a monster if it's already seen you. You have to be in the specific 'fishing' spot for the frog item to be useable as well. Once you throw your frog in the water just let it sit there, if he bites it, you don't have to do anything. It'll do the animation and then he'll be thrown on the land automatically.

Don't worry, word is that G-Rank Plesioth is a nightmare.

Yeah it's a whole new ballgame when you can't afford to get hit by anything at all, rather than just hanging out under his belly occasionally eating his tailwhips and charge slide attack. In MHFU I had to throw out everything I thought I knew about fighting him when I got to g-rank. Fixed hitboxes and online will help, but I really dislike fighting him underwater.

I don't know if they gave him any new abilities in g-rank...before, his nasty high rank surprise was the horizontal water spit and he has that in the demo.

For further clarification make sure you're fishing with the frog as bait, not a worm. Don't just press A at the fishing spot like it prompts you - use the frog from your inventory with Y. You'll see a big red frog on your line in the water.

I couldn't fish even if it didn't see me. I also know hunting horn has nothing to do with fishing. I'm talking about that video where that guy wrecks Ples with the horn. He fishes it out of the water at the beginning.

Ok, so your issue is you're not able to put the frog in the water to start the fishing? Or you can get the frog in the water but pleso isn't biting?

Stand in the exact spot he was in the video. You can only fish in spots that HAVE a school of fish. You might accidentally dive in since you have to get pretty close, but the X will go away from the frog item in your inventory when you are standing in the right spot.

The hunting horn is really good, I just beat both monsters with it. It must be awesome in a team, plus it makes that famous screaming noise from horror movies every time you attack with it. I don't know what the scream is called though, it's definitely not the Wilhelm scream.

It's just that one. Gigginox equipment has this whole vampire/gothic theme to it.

MH neophyte here. Played one session of the demo on Easy with dual swords, finished it in 18m. Not entirely sure the demo sold me on the game, though, since I more or less had no freaking idea what I was doing. Might give it another shot with some other weapons. Still on the fence, I guess, especially since I have OH GOD THE BACKLOG to wade through...

Anyone with the Japanese version able to confirm what kind of sound output options are available? My only gripe with the demo is that plugging headphones into the Pad doesn't get you full audio. You only get some sound effects, no music, etc. as that is all coming out of the television.

Just curious if being hopeful that it is just the demo setup is foolish. I can route my headphones through the TV Out as I am luckily close enough to do so, but I would imagine most people are not.

One option in Zombi U that I like is that I can choose to route all sound through the Gamepad, which is very nice for headphone sound atmosphere.

Join the club, I've been trying to find out since the day the demo was released.

I mean, you'd think the option would be there considering they will have options for voice chat audio etc, but I'd like to be sure. And I don't know how common this kind of thing is on Wii U games because the only other one I have is Zombi U.

I'm starting to say forget the hammer and go hunting horn, I really kick ass with it and dig the stat boosts. In tri one of my favorite weapons was this hammer though

The Pulsating Core, it was bad ass.. will it return in ultimate?

Jumped on the 3DS/Wii U Amazon deal. I am absolutely terrible at the demo and have no idea what I am doing... which has been a surprisingly refreshing experience. Can't wait for the full game and the depth everyone keeps talking about.

Problem with the demo is that you miss out the early stages of getting new gear, learning combat styles and also how to approach boss fights. Is has a fairly steep learning curve but the demo is pretty much straight up from the get-go. :D

Yes, Pulsating Core will return and it actually has one more advancement in its weapon tree now.

My personal favourite hammer, just from an animation stand point, was the Deadeye Revolver. It looked pretty awesome as it spun up.

Sorry if this has been asked/thoroughly discussed, but have the Dual Swords been toned down in comparison to P3rd? From the demo I can't tell if they've been nerfed, monsters have more health, or a combo of both.

Just tried the Demo last night and notice some lags. Animation looks slow compared to previous MH on PSP, esp when navigating items during battle. This will take sometime to get used to.

Ples is a kitten in this game, he needs his jank back.

Do you really want janky Plessy back with his absurd hitboxes?

(I don't. Nope.)

I remember the first time I met Plessy on MHFU, in that cave, I went in with the GS in spite of advice to the contrary and then played the waiting game like some Ahab (or every other player). The white (not white) whale (fish) hiding in the sea, playing tricks. Spent close to the 50 minutes finishing him off. In this demo, under 10 minutes. Not with the GS, mind.

Prior to me playing MH2, I'd heard all the horror stories about him. So I had sort of an idea of what to expect, but gotdamn DAT HITBOX. Whittled his ass down with the Para SnS and eventually capped him. Pretty annoying fight. Never did bother with fighting the Green Plessy.

Pulsating Core's been around for a while. Kind of a series lock for now. Epitaph Blade too.

Can you make weapons and armour from any monster in the game? For example, can you have a Lagombi armour and a Lagombi switch axe?

There will always be an armour set for every monster, but weapons will vary. Sometimes weapons will take parts of multiple monsters / sources, but its looks will be heavily influenced by one over the other.

IIRC, not every creature has a weapon of every type, but they will have most types, and there's always armor of every type.

Awesome, thanks.

So.. How much better does the WiiU version play than the 3DS version?

Don't they play the exact same way?

Hmmm never thought about it, did diablos have any weapons?

People who were new with Tri missed out, but the answer to if Diablos had weapons is "did he (and she, Black DIablos are all female) ever". King Atillart Sword 1400+ Raw Damage, White Sharpness. It had -15% affinity, but that would be offset with Art of Unsheathing or Critical Eye.

Since Black Diablos is back, that sword is back too.

Too bad rajang isn't in the game. His armor went great with that GS.

The skills still are though, and now there's a lot more options with armor sets thanks to the talismans.
I have mixed feelings about talismans because they're incredibly boring to farm, are pretty much completely random, and have hardly addressed the problem that most people are still wearing pretty much the same armor sets as everyone else.

It's good from the standpoint that they've thought about fixing the problem (which is not a problem for everyone, of course), but not so good from the standpoint of fixing the problem.

I disagree when thought out well I was able to farm and make a armor set. With about 6 to 7 "need to check" skills all which were very useful. Ya it doesn't affect the appearance, but it makes a world of difference. Playing with players who have correctly armored sets can Mae a hunt real easy. I can't stand people who have armors with dumb skills.

Yeah, there are two LBGs at least that have 3/3/3 Cluster shot, I think both are Ruststone/Rustshard related weapons as was the Demonlock.

This one 鬼ヶ島 (and its upgraded version)
and
This one 神ヶ島 (and its two upgrades)
Awesome, good to know.

man I suck at this game, my fiancee had to show me how to play and I still keep dying
Don't sweat it, if this is your first monster hunter game, there would've been probably a good 10 hour learning curve more or less if you played the full game starting from the beginning w/ tutorials. The demo just throws you in without explaining anything so no one new should really expect to be good or efficient.

What problem?

What problem?

The "problem" (according to him) is that people are wearing the same armor sets. I think this happens more often toward the end of the game because some skills are more obviously "no-brainers" than others. I don't see it as much of a problem when you are moving up. In any case, it is always nice to be able to mix and match armors and talismans, and having to decided between important armor skills for your weapon.

But then again... people got upset about the bowguns.

They should take a bigger pass at skills in MH4, that's something that needed to be looked at more than anything they did with Tri. In the future maybe offer vanity features for armor so people aren't resorting to clown suits at times.

Bowgun customization was a neat idea, in concept. The execution was a complete disaster and along with the removal of bows pretty much wrecked range outside of fringe situations in Tri.

Nice. Cleared Lagombi with the sword and shield in 10 minutes. :) Something tells me I might just focus on that and just play around with the other weapons initially.
