I finally finished everything I have available in 6-star (the end of low rank) and now I'm splitting my time between 7-star and trying to craft every bow available to me up through this point.
It will be interesting to hear your opinion on playing with the new system after having spend a fair amount of time with the old one. I personally waited until I had the new system before getting the game. I wanted to be able to dive in.
The name also sounds like T. Rex though.
Most of the monster names/concepts amalgamations of this sort, though few are as obvious at Tigrex. The head of localization actually did a series of blog posts about this topic. They are a great read:

Adjusted my HBG set slightly and now I have:
Reload Speed+1
Recoil Down+2
Evasion+1
Evade Extender
Pierce Up
Using Diablos Z Cap, Torso, Waist, Diablos X Leggings and Gravios Guards X with a +8 Pierce Up charm.
I know you only need Some recoil for pierce shots, but it's nice having Low recoil for some of the other ammo types that the Crimson Fatalis HBG can use. With those skills it has Fast reload speed and Low recoil now.

Last night I joined a room of HR4 looking to increase HR, and we all needed Pinkie. So the host goes first, and we defeat her on the first try. Great! Then it's my turn, and god bless them for helping me, but THEY triple carted on 3 separate attempts. I was able to not cart through those 3 attempts and still deal pretty good damage. After that I had to go to bed.
Made a solo attempt again this morning and triple carted. Might be time to get a new armor set. I'm currently around 260 armor. FML.

Holy crap, honing defense on gunner weapon make ton of difference. I was regularly one shotted by Apex monsters, but not anymore with that juicy +60 defense and Divine Protection.
And that was a good hunting session! Got 4 Zenith Gems and 5 Large Zenith Gems.

The way damage is calculated is extremely complicated. Gaijin Hunter has done a number of articles on this topic.

The numbers you mentioned from his videos are the "motion values". This is one of ~6 numbers that goes into calculating how much damage an individual hit does. The simplest way to explain them is that game directly offers more damage to attacks with slower animations.

Divine protection is the only reason I don't hone for offense on everything. It comes in very handy for projectile users and the clumsy blademaster like myself.

Yeah, offense honing looks pathetic in number (it's different if the shown increased value is for true attack though).

The 6 star Caravan quest "Wicked Wings" against Kushala Daora drops them frequently.
Just did the Kecha Wacha huntathon with the Nerscylla glaive, I thought it was level appropriate but they kept dying within 1:30 minutes, not even enough time for the golden boost (that I got off the previous Kecha Wacha's corpse) to end. Kecha Wachas dropping left and right.
I ended up accomplishing my lifelong dream of hunting 10 monsters in the same quest. Judging by my whetstones I think I did around 15 of them.

Awesome thanks for the offer. Unfortunately I can't get online until about 9 or 10 pm pacific.
Offline right now farming for some rarity 5 armor. Maxed with adv spheres should get me well over 300.

Thanks to those who came to help, unfortunately for my armor right now my only three slot charm with something close to 10 was thunder resistance.
So with mizuha cap and akantor everything else I end up with: sharpness +1, hg earplugs, crit eye +1 and Thunder resist +1. Have one free slot, so if another three slot charm roles around I will have two slots to use on what it has.
Hoping this holds me to seregios.
IIRC, you need to go to Dundorma to get your first 7* quest.

You dont need to do that quest to unlock 7-star.
After you beat Shagaru Malaga go to Dundorma to start the high rank quest

I can't believe I burned through 200k in just 1 armor creation and upgrades. But I just had to have Monodevil gunner.

Hello. I'm using Duel Blades and I was wondering what would the best armor set for it at my tier? I am currently using Dual Cleavers+ with full set of Tetsucabra armor. I'm currently at Tier 5 (I haven't done any online quests).

At least rathian doesn't murder your stamina like azure rathalos does. A 5 attack chain, no way to recover that much stamina ever.
Sounds good. I could use some Nerscylla Cortexes and try out new gear.

There should be room now. For whatever reason as soon as the quest starts I get a "Sassy has exited/left the gathering hall" and then disconnect/connection error myself.

Do you guys think the ace gear is worth making for dual blades? I'm looking at it and it looks like it's worth it with all the slots and the only downside is bleeding (lol)
