Monster Hunter Generations |OT| Generation X

Just got my n3DSXL "modded" with a PSP1000 analog for the nub. Holy crap. What a difference. Night and day. Removing the nub is a breeze and I'm confident it will go back on easily if someone put a gun to my head and made me.

Speaking of night and day... Went back and did a hunt in MH4U and holy crap. The graphical difference is astounding. It's crazy how much better MH4U looks than MHGen on the n3DS.

I definitely should get around to that mod.

As for MH4U, I actually didn't put as much time into that as I expected to. But if I was gonna go back to a game it'd be 3U for sure. I miss console MH a lot.

Is there any difference between the Advanced Village quest for a Seltas Queen and the HR6 one in the hub? I have both and if the one in the Village has less health it may be faster to farm it.

The Village one should have health balanced for one player. She died really fast when I farmed her for some Torrent Sacs.

I ended up playing 3U for a hot second after my MH4U jaunt. It's just too far removed now. I'm too spoiled with all of the new gameplay elements of 4 and especially Generations.

Not to mention that I main IG and that's obviously not an option in 3U.

So what are your "go to" food choices? There are so many combinations...When I'm running Hammer, it's anything with Slugger. With GS, I'm just doing AuM or L.

Lately, having spent the last couple days maxing Dreadqueen set, I am eating for Felyne Insurance lol So many people dying on IX. Sheesh!

Otherwise, I tend to eat for ATK L (now that I have 600+ DEF) or DEF L, or Trainer if I am just duoing with my friend. Or Specialist.

As HBG I always have to eat for sharpshooter or temper. I try to get Attack (L) if I can.

For blademasters I still get attack (L) if I can but I don't care much about whatever other ability I get. Sharpener, moxie, defender, slugger where applicable. Insurance is also really nice with randoms.

I honestly don't know how I'd go back to older HBG. I'd probably just go back to hammer or GS.

Adept being able to roll in and out of siege mode at will is absolutely insanely huge. Nevermind how good the Adept dodge is. But even just being able to reload by jumping off ledges is so ingrained in me now it'd be hard to deal with losing it. Oh, and fucking item sets! Before those, being a gunner main was tedious as hell.

So many little QoL improvements over the years that people probably don't even realize how recently some things were added. I don't remember which game added equipment sets that actually save and move around your decorations but that was a big one.

Damn, I don't think I can get an armor set with sharpness +1 and Razor Sharp.
Savage Jho has built-in Sharpness +2 and Razor Sharp but no slots.

there are also mixed sets you can do that only involve a slot or two on your weapon or charm. dunno where to get EX Kushala crap tho

doesn't Glavenus' special skill prevent sharpness decrease? That seems like a fine substitute for sharpener and his sets come with sharpness+2.

So can you actually hunt Mizutsune on the Village 3* where it shows up alongside a Bulldrome?

There's a nonzero chance I've spent about 30 minutes trying.

They have 3x health when they first show up as intruder monsters, so actually fighting them at that point is more of a challenge for die hards than something you're supposed to actually do.

He has tons O health. Even more than he will have when you fight him later. It is possible to kill him but you will most likely run out of time.

That would explain why I'm able to mount it six times... back to kiling the pig then.

I've played Freedom Unite, Portable 3rd, 3 Ultimate (on both 3DS and Wii U), and 4U. Each time starts out great - like most of you, I'll never forget that moment while playing my first MH game when it suddenly "clicks" and you get how everything comes together.

However, without fail, I get about a dozen hours into each game before I get frustrated and quit. Sometimes it's after numerous attempts against a monster, but usually it's when I just barely make my way through a long battle and I realize that I need to do it many more times.

After this happened in 4U, I told myself I was done - no more MH games. I resisted the pull of Generations for a couple of weeks, but long story short - I'm picking up my copy in an hour.

Is my situation fairly normal among non-hardcore players? Am I missing something? I'd love to continue progressing and eventually take down the biggest monsters in the game. Not to mention gearing up - I love getting new equipment.

I always start out by getting hit more than I'd like, and the hunt taking longer than I'd like, and just wishing I could get the parts I needed and be done with fighting that monster again. And it's disheartening to see that I might have to hunt it several more times right after that first one took so long.

But the second hunt goes smoother than the first. I've memorized the monster's tells better, so I get hit less often, and the fight goes faster. I'm more experienced than I was before.

It doesn't take a lot of hunts before I really start getting into the zone when fighting the monster such that it goes really fast and I barely get hit at all. That's the point where I start looking forward to fighting it again. It's making my own skills better that I find most satisfying of all.

Amazon know's what you really want out of your psp purchase.

I picked this up because I also have a PSP that's missing a nub so I needed more than one.

Any Hunting Horn users here? What styles have you been rocking lately?

I think all but Striker are quite fun:

• Guild is the most used style in Hunting Horn speedruns (85%), with its 2 hunter art slots and the forward+A double-hit "Flourish" move (even though sometimes as I reposition myself I trigger it when I just want a regular right swing…)

• Aerial gets you easy doubled notes on big monsters like Gammoth/Duramboros and monsters that fly often like Rathalos/Kushala Daora. You can recital as you land with a fast animation. In addition to the obvious mounting opportunities. However you have to deal with the replacement of the regular forward roll by the aerial roll.

• Adept gives the usual broken-long invincibility evades, then you use the circle pad to run in one direction and do 1 to 3 fast counter-attacks for easy note loading. Not totally broken as you're locked into the run-in animation after the adept dodge and you're totally vulnerable here, cannot evade until after the first counter-attack or the expiration of the run-in window.

Question,

For some reason lately when i use my CB i can't do the regular shield strike after a hit with x + (X+A). It won't do the hit. I used to be able to do it np when i started the game. Did i mess something up in my settings?

I actually killed the Mizutsune on that mission, though it probably wasn't a good use of my time.

At this point I don't think it's possible to have a better set than I'm using for Aerial GS. I'm using the Snowbaron set w/ a Talisman that gives me Razor Sharp while using Impudent Cheda as my GS.

So basically, I'm more or less always going to have white sharpness from all the jumping around. So good.

Which skill is that? Grinder?

Grinder "locks" you into the highest sharpness you get to after using a whetstone for a few minutes, while giving you an attack boost at the same time. You'll know when it runs out because you get a white outline on your sharpness meter while it's active.

I used LR Glav armor the whole way through village 5* and then hub 5*, just kept upgrading it. A combo of Grinder and Fencing was amazing. I'm kinda pissed the HR version drops Fencing and gives you Handicraft instead, tbh. I'd still be using it if it didn't fall so far behind on DEF in 6* and beyond.

Some styles remove moves while adding other abilities instead. Which style did you start with, have you changed?

Got to 6* Hub earlier today. I'm still using the mixed set that gives Razor Sharpness, Exploit Weakness and +Attack (S).

Using SA as my weapon at the moment. Is there another set I should be focusing on getting next?

Silverwind has an amazing crit setup for SA

I started with the Adept Style, changed it to Striker. I guess that would make sense.

I changed it since i didn't really get the adept style requirement to make it work, and it made more sense to get 3 moves. I use the evasion, level up the phial count and the light blade hit. But maybe i am doing it wrong and the adept style is better.

How does this custom set sound?

Nargacuga Dual Blades

Critical Eye+3
Super Critical
Razor Sharp

I end up with 70% affinity and criticals do 40% extra damage as opposed to the usual 25%, if GameFAQs is to be believed. It also looks really nice because it's mostly Rhopessa armor.

Would the insane critical chance and critical boost make up for lack of element? I already made the set but haven't fully upgraded any of my weapons yet, although my kill times so far look promising.

On that note, would the Silverwind Nargacuga DBs be worth making?

That's probably what happened then. Why not switch back to adept for a quick gathering hunt and confirm it, you can also check out the move lists in your notes or with the trainer.

Does anyone have that grip? Curious how if it really makes it more comfortable.

Which grip of the 3 pictured? I have the one on the far left, which I did not like, it felt too bulky and I couldn't find a natural position for my hands, especially with the shoulder buttons. I also bought the official MHX one which is amazing. Feels like a 360 controller, or close to it. And has integrated triggers for all 4 shoulder buttons. It is also bulky but the integrated design is much more ergonomic imo and I've found it to be super comfortable for long play sessions.

Sorry meant the far left one. Is the MHX one compatible with the N3DS XL or just the regular size one?

It's only for the N3DS XL actually. It also is designed so you have access to all the ports and everything without having to remove it. Stylus, headphones, power button, charger, cart slot are all easily accessible despite it basically surrounding the entire bottom half of the system.

Oh, well then I may have to pick it up since I imagine aside from MH that'd be more comfortable in general for games.

So after 3 MH games I finally do multiplayer for the first time by joining a hub to do 5* hunts. I still dont know where exactly I pressed A to join the quest but I was able to this time. The hunt was an Uraggan and after just 4 minutes the other 3 players abandoned the quest and I had to kill it myself. What the hell happened??!!!!

Sounds like there was a network problem and you got disconnected from the others, which looks a lot like the other players have abandoned during the hunt.

Anyone recommend some SnS sets for HR? They don't all have to be the best, as I'm interesting in picking the most "OK" sets I can find that look fabulous. I'm primarily playing with elemental weapons and am willing to build a set per element if that's still a thing.

Also, after ignoring guard for the first 40 hours, started mixing it into my SnS play. I always loved the feeling of guarding an attack as lance in monhun but thought I would take tons of damage with SnS. Turns out it's almost just as good and just as satisfying! Actually considering Guard +2... (I know evading is way better than guarding, and I've played evade styles, but I L O V E the feeling of guarding a giant monster attack).

I have the weirdest desyncing problems in local multi sometimes. Like, me and my friend fighting the same monster in two different locations on the same map. So incredibly weird to get tripped by a hit from a Hunter on the other end of the map. I don't remember this being a problem in MH4U...
