We should make a list for those playing with adhoc party or Xlink. I use adhoc party. I get back from the gym late tomorrow, but ill be ready to adhoc fri-sat-sun nights no time limit, Japan time. Hit me up if you want to group.

Hey! Sorry we disappeared from Frontier (life suddenly got crazy busy for me), but will definitely be in with MHP3 for the long haul. :) I just set up adhoc party but I dunno how to use it yet -- do you need to register friends and whatnot?

You don't have to set up friends. It's like a bunch of chat rooms with little games set up in each. You can search games automatically or by keyword. I never used to find specific users, but I'm sure it can be done. Add me, biocat, and we'll hunt it up!

No worries, I kind of figured something was up, im not playing frontier atm either.
My psn name is tomegtherion77 send me a friend request.
It will make it easier just because you will know when im online, other than that its not a requirement.
Also you can use the english version of adhoc party for jp games, just wont be anyone using it much, all the mohun peeps will be in the jp one.
I can walk you through process of setting up a room if it gives you trouble, but I dont usually get home until 11pm on Thursday.

Exactly 59 minutes from getting in line to モンハン GET.

Is that really how they abbreviate the name? Man all these shortening of names by the Japanese is confusing as hell.

How limited is the MH PSP?

Here's to hope that play-asia restocks soon. :( Looking at the site now... they say it's OOP.

Anyone planning to play it on XLINK? I am considering re-activating my XLINK setup (which has been dead for years lol) for MHP3.

I need to resetup too since my ps3 is too far away from the modem.

Super nice but I physicaly can't stand phatty PSPs anymore. Too used to PSPGO's superior (IE: non shitty, carpel tunnel inducing) analog placement

Good hunting with sp0rsk and john tv and markmac tonight!
Good times! Tonight's haul: dos fango, aoashira, couple of dos jaggis, couple of dos froggies.

Lots of interesting observations about the game so far. Keeping a list so we can get into detail on the podcast next week. :)

Can't wait to listen to it! :D

I played about an hour and a half, which was long enough to do the media install, wander around the village, do the sword and shield weapon training quest at the training school, and complete the first two village elder quests.

It looks like most of the posts in this thread are people in Japan or Far East Asia. Are any gaffers on adhoc party playing in North America?

We wound up playing on NA adhoc party last night since it was nice and empty (Japan adhoc party had thousands and thousands of ppl on it - nearly every room was full). What's your PSN name?

BTW adhoc party's chat interface absolutely blows... It's almost worse than Tri's. :/

I won't be able to resist much longer. I just love MH so much. I recall I even made a solver excel sheet that automatically found the best armor combos with the skills you wanted for the last one. Jesus how crazy was I? (how crazy am I still for this game? I fear it's power over me)

Hummmmmmm want to play this bad but it won't work on my custom PSP (and the screen's got vertical lines going down it on the left hand side). I suppose I could buy one of those sexy MH PSPs (assuming I can find one) but with the PSP2 probably out next year... gah what a dilemma.

So I was like beating the shit out of Dosfango and capture it when the warning sign appears and I have to face Jinouga. Sad to say when my weapon keep on bouncing off and it hits hard to my health considering I'm using my default samurai armor. I quit the 'bonus' quest :(

My biggest concern is that the stuff from Tri gets actual hi- rank versions of the armor this time around. That was my biggest peeve with Tri. It was just like the original Monster Hunter in that respect, and it annoyed me just as much then as it does now.

It's like comparing the low- rank Lao Shan armor to the high rank stuff- night and day. My high rank Jhen gear better look just as fly!

What's retail on this? 5800 or so? I'll be picking up my copy next weekend most likely once we're at the in-law's house.

So, all the people playing now are able to read japanese? Sorry if this is a dumb question. Started MH with Tri, and I absolutely love it. Still play it once a week or so. I'm wondering if there are ever homebrew translation patches, or english options...I'm at the point where if I could understand what was going on (and could figure out a way to play online without a PS3), I would buy a PSP and this game.

bah.

Kill monster => carve parts =>if it's not the part you want => kill some more. There, you're good to go!!!

The only translation needed is mainly armor skills and item list but I know Mandarin + katakana so I can guess what item/skill is what.

But there is a english translation for the items.

PSN name is "Lance_Bone_Path". Do you really have a space in your PSN name? I couldn't insert one when I did my friend request.

The chat interface has a lot of the same issues that Tri has, but it's a big plust that you can chat while quests are loading :D .

sprsk said the same thing -- I dunno, maybe I don't? I mean, on my screen it's "john tv" (with the space) but maybe that's just local? I set it up so long ago I honestly don't remember. If that doesn't work, maybe try "johntv" and see what happens. Either way, I'll add you next time I'm on (probably tonight). :)

Magnus was saying that voice chat works really well with adhoc party -- thinking of picking up a bluetooth headset today to check it out.

Voice is nice and clean using adhoc, I was using ps3 voice when playing MHtri also, so much better than wiispeak, what isnt? lol.
Im hoping we can get connected tonight. Its been wracking my brain all day trying to figure why I couldn't see everyone. Maybe the cats were messing it up? Ill disable the cat next time.
Also when I sent my friend request there was no space, in fact it would not let me add a space, so johntv was what worked.

Ah awesome, thanks! johntv it is then, I guess. :)

Yeah I dunno what happened -- we had another friend join right after you left and had no problem doing 4P. Very strange...

Should be on tonight around 11pm or so, I think. Hopefully see you later!

This is a little off topic, but I figured this would be a good place to ask. I have been thinking about trying to jump on the MonHun train for a while now, and while I would buy Portable 3rd I can't read a lick of Japanese. As a fairly new player (I have messed with the series once or twice) should I pick up Tri or one of the PSP games? Also, are there any good resources out there to help out newer players?

You definitely, positively want to start with Tri. It's by far the most accessible of the English language MH games. As far as resources, http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/ is the best IMO but it's pretty hardcore. Play through the single player stuff in Tri for a while and the game will teach you a lot of the basics; then branch out into online and find some good GAFers to help you along and you'll likely come to really enjoy it. IMO, anyway!

Are you sure you aren't just saying that because you worked on the localization.:D Seriously though, thanks for the advice. I think I will pick up Tri with some post X-mas cash, hopefully I can adjust without too much trouble.

Tri really does have the lowest learning curve out of the last three MH games. Maybe a little too low initially; the first hour or so is doing learning quests you had the option to skip in the PSP versions.
