For some reason I somehow skipped over how to upgrade armor, and played through the end of the story with an unupgraded ingot set. No wonder why the last couple fights were close to one shotting me with most attacks. Guess I should find something halfway decent to blow these armor spheres on. What's everyone's favorite set so far? Looks and utility.

Currently at hr 134 and gotta say there just isn't much to do aside from responding to sos. I've unlocked all the weapons and armor sets I want, lame event quests, fighting these monsters just isn't really much of a challenge.

I have the benefit that I have not played worlds since I completed Iceborne which was a couple of years ago but this just makes me want to go back to worlds and maybe start a new character until more content releases here.

I don't remember armor skills very well, but some of my favorites for looks (playing as female character) are:

Xu Wu
Odogaron
Nu Udra
Dahaad
Gore
Quematrice
Lala Barina

MagiusNecros

Gilgamesh Fan Annoyance
I’ll try to keep it a short hit list:
I feel the same. I will mirror your key points. I had my fun but the game has issues. At least as a MH veteran.

-Story bad. When I say it's MH's Metroid Other M I am not kidding. Replace Arkveld with "The Baby" and "Authorization" and the similarity is uncanny. Only time I really got interested was Gore.
-Sidequests are either in optional quests or out in the field...so they are all over the place. In the field you have to wait for them to show up like it's a MMO time limited event.
-Jumping off cliffs should just be instant like in Rise and not be limited by a prompt just because it wants to railroad the Seikret.
-Weapons like Hammer and Charge Blade(Axe) are so streamlined there is generally only one way to play with the weapon and with Focus mode any skill expression is lacking.
-If you cut a tail it has to be with a bladed weapon and the only way you can tell is if a monster reacts to it or if you see it flying...whereas other games the Monster gets knocked down, audibly is distressed and had a large amount of hitstop to accompany it. Furthermore you can get Tail parts from wounds so...
-Rise has a bigger aerial focus and the only weapon I feel that's reliable in mounting in Wilds is Insect Glaive and probably only 3 times a fight. Priority is open as many wounds and then choose one to knock it down as opposed to MH4 and Rise where the purpose is to knock it down for a burst damage phase.
-I only like a couple sets myself and I think half are recycled.
-Music is very forgettable. Recurring themes like Gore is also a messy arrangement leaving the original as superior. Without the percussion and wailing wind instruments the impact just isn't the same. Like DD2 the music score just feels very hollow. Lacks heart.
-I don't like the UI compared to older MH games where it's more simplistic and used to look like hieroglyphs. Now there is a whole lot going on and it really just seems too robotic and high tech.
-Game is too easy. Many attacks are very forgiving, never really punished, outside of maybe Gore you don't really run out of Stamina and blocking blocks most attacks with little impunity. Going from Wilds to World or Rise/GU/4U is a complete difference.

Monsters don't strike fear into you when you are more dangerous then they are. Probably gonna stick with Rise for the foreseeable future.

Maybe a stupid question, lol, but what am I supposed to do with the B button here? I see four downward pointing arrows on it, it's not "hold" neither is it tap B four times. What is it though?

EDIT

I'm dumb, it seems it IS tap B four times.

Which weapons? You can watch the guide

Is there any way to have HDR not look shit for console?

Xbox Series X
Sony A95K QD-OLED

The settings on Xbox and TV are correct. What are your ingame HDR settings?
HDR doesn't look good in this game

I'm playing it on PC and my home theater is calibrated and it doesn't look good

But at least it's brighter and more colorful. In SDR it just looks bad

Somehow managed to get my Arkveld kill with my mount finisher, it sure looks cool. Well, it would look cooler if you had better control over the framing of the shot when you get a monster kill in this game

Oh, I guess the story is over now huh. I mean it's like really, really over after Chapter 6 ends. Time to farm or whatever I guess

The nicest person on this forum
6 red star tempered Gore Magala with 30 minis time limit.

Majority of the quests outside of the quest board can give really nice challenge.

To have the best of visuals and framerate I assume balanced mode, 120hz,40fps capped is best? I'd try it out but it seems I can only change these settings in main menu, not on the fly during gameplay.

It's a nice compromise aye. It's been working well on both my PS5 Pro and my other half's PS5.

I'd say yes.

Personally I went with Balanced 120hz uncapped, but I believe there isn't much difference between capped and uncapped (although the difference seems noticeable when I play on PS Portal, so who knows?).

Balanced framerate feels smooth enough, imo, and it has the RT reflections, which look much better than what's used in Framerate mode.

Well after finishing the story I'm just loading into random lobby/SOS quests, this game gets old quick without people to play with.

I went and bought World 😬
just booted world again and man, it delivers from the first minute, the OST is so good, if u never played world i recommend not using the OP armor and weapon they give you to rush into Iceborne, play it as intended for better experience, but thats me.

HR 42 and the game is done for me officially.

I’m surprised how MH longtime fans all post the same shit about difficulty and content drought. “Oh they fix it in time everytime just wait.”

Bro are you retarded? Why would an issue that hits every title be excused every time? The developer needs to stop repeating the problem and learn/adapt to make a better product.

If anything people should be far more livid and less willing to swallow shit from devs but such is the state of consumerism.

Nowadays devs dont do complete games anymore, they ll sell you half the game as base and the other half as DLC.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
MHbros, has any on you tried Monster Hunter Frontier? I heard it got a translation patch and there are fan-servers up and running. Was curious about it since I've also read that it's the most challenging MH has ever been.

I understand the theme they are going for in Wilds, and the Beauty of Nature is a good song, but there is absolutely zero memorable tunes in Wilds. It feels like Breath of the Wild, where the soundtrack was impressive but at the same time fell flat because I can't remember anything except maybe one song. Rise had some excellent tracks too, but something about World and the use of horns really gave it impact.

Aside from the clutch claw fucking up the balance of the game, World is probably still unmatched. Wilds' combat with everything else about World would be peak.

My problem with Wilds is the feeling, in MHWorld they made the "new world" feel new, unexplored meanwhile they didn't made Wilds feel Wild, i was supposed to be amazed cause they have a pack of "bulls" roaming around ? or cause a butterfly ll make a cocoon that no one ll give a shit ? Wilds is a good game, but id didn't delivered the feeling of Wilderness that it should, even World deliver more this feeling of wilderness than Wilds do, even the turf wars feels a lot weaker in Wilds, in World i remember running way as soon as a turf war started.

Yeah I'm already liking World more after like 2 hunts. The base is way cooler and the characters more endearing, using sword and shield feels only a little more stiff. I'm really excited!

Oh yeah the one thing I knew about world was to not use the overpowered gear at the start, saw someone post about that a looong time ago on gaf and it stuck for some reason lol

u can look for a Crown Squad ( you should find some on reddit ) or go on the hunt with your binoculars, go to a map, use binoculars to see if monster has a crown, if yes, save the monster as investigation, if no proceeds to the next monster, change area and repeat.

Or u can go to nexusmods if on PC https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterwilds/mods/152
Wait, so people have been whining since launch that there is no hunting, exploring etc and then they use mods to skip part of the hunting and exploring?

What is the best method to get the crown related trophies? Any tips?
From my trials, it appears that optional quest monsters are all a fixed size. As far as I can tell, variable sizes are only available as investigations- that is, monsters you find out in the wilds. Reddit is a good resource for sharing crown monsters, because they can be saved as investigations. There's a decent crown trading community out there.

Not sure on your setup but on my LG C1 I found HGIG looked vastly better than DTM HDR.

Yeah I think on Sony TV it's called something else but I know it's on brightness preferred. With that setting off i believe it's basically DTM. I haven't tried it for this game but for some games I do use DTM because it's sometimes too dim in other games.

Capcom already streamlined most of the game just to appeal to a wider audience, so, imo ppl can do whatever they wants with the game.

Want to Hunt them down ? You can do, want to streamline one more thing ? Sure, why not, i ll not be surprised If Capcom make this mod a feature in the next MH game.

Don't get me wrong, I love how they streamlined the experience.

I'm not a long-time MH fan and imo, Wilds >> World.

It just seems weird to use mods to skip part of the "fun", as some might say, given the complaints about how the game caters to casuals.
Seems counter-productive.

This.

Don’t get me wrong, wilds is great and I’m happy for more MH, but they missed the vibes on this one.

Wilds just does not have that wacky feeling that World has.

Worlds is more true to the Monster Hunter formula. Wilds is like this strange detour.

Wilds play a lot like Rise, choose your hunt, mount on your mount, go straight to Monster, the world is just there for the sake of it, it has absolutely no purpose and thats why "The pit" ( Wounded Hollow ) is the best area of the game

Speaking of turf wars, in over 50 hours of play time I think I have actually seen one happen. Every other time it's just been the monster clipping into each other "fighting" and then doing basic attacks.

In World I remember them happening all the time, like almost every hunt.

I saw a monster run away from the monster I was fighting in Wilds. I found it funny.

I am kind of temped to get the Deluxe pack because it makes your mount look cool.
