Ordeal of Katie, 17, who gets to kiss film's star

HATE-FILLED websites have sprung up attacking Harry Potter actress Katie Leung.

Messages slagging off the 17-year-old have been posted by fans of the boy wizard.

Katie, of Motherwell, Lanarkshire, beat 4000 other girls at an audition in Glasgow to win the role of Harry's girlfriend.

But before the film has even premiered, she has experienced the downside of fame.

Jealous fans have started a Hate-Katie site on the internet just because she gets to kiss Daniel Radcliffe in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire film.

Messages branding her ugly - some even with racist comments - have been posted on some sites.

True. I'm a fan of the books myself, but I find myself hiding this fact more and more. You tell Potter fans that the fifth book wasn't so great (which is a personal opinion) and they react like you just sexually assulted their mom.

Why a hatelisting for Katie?

Maybe hate is too strong of a word, but I dislike Katie Leung. I obviously don't know her so I can't judge her on her personality, but here are just a few reasons why I don't like her.

*she doesn't match at all what Cho Chang should look like, in my opinion.

*she's going to be playing a role that most would kill for.

*she doesn't look very friendly, but of course, she could be very nice and we'll never know for sure.

*she gets the chance to meet some people that most of us would just die to meet, and she gets the oppurtunity of a lifetime. who wouldn't be jealous of that?

Wow, Potter lovers have quickly moved to the top of the "most pathetic fans" list. I havent read the books but all the movies are exactly the same. New enemy appears, trys to kill Harry Potter, nobody believes him, Potter kills enemy. How can this crap like this build such a large fanbase?

ummmm.. don't admit you have no idea what you are talking about and then proceed to act like you know what you are talking about. the books are excellent and hold very little emotional relation to the by the numbers movies.

If they were soo far off from the books why havent potter fans made it known? Every time a new one comes out all I hear is how they did a good job of staying true to the books so naturally I assume the books are just as bad. The fact that the movies make so much money despite being crap doesnt help either.

well, unfortunately because as you correctly deduced, potter fans are fucking nuts. they don't care that all the movies are are a greatest hits collections of scenes visualized from the books. they don't care that so much was left out because they just want to see more of the actors and visualizations of the story on the screen.

but the basis for the average movies are some pretty fantastic books. the books are also where all of the fans come from. I have never met a potter fan who was wild about the series solely off the movies. they either liked the movies and then moved onto the books or started on the books. the only people I know who have just seen the movies are similar to you in that the movies were ok but they can't see what the fuss was about.

The books have anti-racism themes. Mugbloods and whatnot.

I can't figure out who's being the racists here; it can't be the other contenders, they'd have to be Asian, too.

BTW: If my daughter was up for being in a Potter movie, she'd not be showing up for that audition. It just ain't worth it.

How big is her role gonna be in the movie? If I remember correctly from the book (Spoilers ahead, marked accordingly)
she wasn't even Harry Potter's boyfriend in the book. She was the girlfriend of Cedric. She was only his girlfriend (loosely) in the 5th book and even then she was just a bitch and had too much self-pity over her dead ex-boyfriend.
