The driving prohibition has forced families to hire live-in drivers, who, strangely, are allowed to be alone with women. Al-Zulfa said clerics have deemed this a lesser evil than driving. Women whose families cannot afford to pay $300 to $400 a month for drivers rely on male relatives to take them around.

A friend of my sister was raised by crazed hardcore Christians. They left their son (my sister's friend) and their daughter in the States and moved to Africa to do "the work of Christ". Thing is, the daughter was just finishing High School and the son was in College. The parents left them with no money, no house, and no future. They basically have to live off of their older, recently married sister. The daughter was so upset by this that she attempted to make them stay through slicing her own wrists and skipping school. She went from a straight-A student to a wreck. She was planning on going to college, but her scholarships were taken away and they can't pay for it. This situation has me fuming. I don't even know them well, but it makes me so incredibly sick to imagine their parents just abandoning their kids "for the lord". What a bunch of shit.
When these hardcore fanatics start to act in even crazier manners, it really starts to scare me.
Al-Zulfa's cell phone now constantly rings with furious Saudis accusing him of encouraging women to commit the double sins of discarding their veils and mixing with men. He gets phone text messages calling on Allah to freeze his blood.

Just as a heads-up: I'm sure that you were kidding, but realize that your joke could easily be taken the wrong way.cubanb said:shit, maybe they do have it right over there. Banning woman from driving here wouldn't be such a bad idea![]()

*I'm assuming this was some bullshit conversion trip, because if they were going for some actual good work and humanitarian kind of stuff, then it's pretty fucked up to get pissed off at them for leaving their adult children to make their own livings.
Why are you disparaging our allies in Saudi Arabia? Why do you hate freedom?Firest0rm said:That's Wahabism for you, everything they do contradicts the meaning of Islam.

Also, we had a thread about this very topic a couple of days ago, and it's a miracle that more people weren't banned in it.

what if I were half kidding?Pellham said:If you were even half serious, you'd deserve nothing short of a punch in the face.
Anyway, this is truly sickening. Unfortunately there's nothing that can be done about it. I guess it'll be 50-100 years or even longer before Saudia Arabia gets out of the dark ages.
