Most mismanaged franchises of all time?

Sonic has to be number 1. For a franchise that is so popular and has so many dedicated fans to this day it sure has had many poor and downright awful games in its catalogue.

Halo is probably right up there as well ever since 343 took over. I mean you're talking about franchise that every other shooter was trying to take down, a franchise that used to set sales records.

Gears would be another shout, became irrelevant after Coalition took over. Gears OG trilogy is still one of the highest rated and best trilogies of all time.

Yea it's Final Fantasy.

Square Enix's ambitions to make Final Fantasy into a huge blockbuster franchise has effectively hamstrung it (a lesson they should have learned with Spirits Within). Persona and now Refantazio prove that there's still a market for high-quality traditional JRPGs. You don't need to reinvent the wheel every installment

games+cartoons/movies i want changed/rebooted/sequels

halo
bloodborne
metal gear
dino crisis
assassin's creed (should have kept desmond or rebooted the series with him)
Half-Life (give us our f****** HL3 Gabe)
Transformers
Ninja Turtles (this is more a rant about the new designs they are so ugly compared to the OG 80's-90's cartoon/movie designs)
Batman/arkham
Max payne
L.A Noire (would love a stand alone "sequel")
Star Wars (please have someone decent make a game for this that delivers quality)
Watch Dogs (had so much potential)
F.E.A.R. (would be cool to get a remake/reboot)
Duke Nukem
Splinter Cell

and many more....

Sonic was & remains grossly mismanaged and the more you look into it, the worse it gets. They never expected to make sequels, so they licensed out the IP to any sucker willing to pay them money and let them do whatever they wanted without oversight. That's why a huge part of the sonic Fandom can't shut up about a bunch of characters you've never heard of, like Sally and a couple of 100 more stuck in right's limbo.
Then I'll argue the original game and speed based mechanics is actually shit, but they still keep trying to make it work.

Sonic but I think maybe quality isn't a primary focus vs pure branding and licensing.

Pokemon in some perspective. Branding is great mind but it always feels like it's safe or behind the curve.

Kingdom Hearts purely for the time it's taken for the story to still not be resolved.

FF for losing sight of high quality. Last few do some right but many things wrong. They keep trying to peddle it like the LV of RPG but it hasn't been in ages.

Soul Calibur should be in tandem with Tekken. They squandered with 6 and I fear they're scared to touch it again.

Sonic must be the winner, but I would mention several RTS series. Command Conquer, Red Alert, Dawn of War, Company of Heroes, etc. So many classic, super popular games handed off to people that just didn’t understand how to keep things going.

This was practically a gold mine for Activision for the first few entries. Activision then proceeded to drive it into the ground by oversaturating the market with too many sequels and spinoffs in a short span of time, some of which required people to buy new, expensive peripherals.

Medal of Honor. I bet people at EA still have sleepless nights wondering how they fumbled that so badly, and how it is nowhere compared to Call of Duty.

Halo.

Dragon Age and Mass Effect took something beautiful and derailed into bland mediocrity. I guess we have to add Bethesda RPG's and Starfield too.

Yep, a great trilogy to Andromeda and to nothing.

DA:O was amazing, DA2 was crap due to rushed development, DAI was mediocre and the new DA looks to be complete trash.

I always had great respect for battlefield, its contributions to online multiplayer, and campaign might not be a big deal to people but not having one doesn’t make sense.

I guess I'm the first to say not getting a single Madden onto the 144 million (and counting) Switch is a mighty big fuckup.
