A friend and I are moving to London in a month or so and I would appreciate if some of you Londoners could recommend me some good places to live that aren't too expensive. - and tell me what places I should stay away from...

Found a nice looking flat in Hampstead btw but I'm still not too sure..

thanks ;)

North London is cheap, but it's crap, so you should stay away from there.

What about moving just outside of London? Nice areas, less expensive and still within daily travelling distance of London itself

I'm from Denmark.... Just want to get away for a year or so :)

So Hampstead is a no-no? It's in North, right?

Move to Kingston its really nice there, will you be working in London? if not move just outside maybe Reading or even Brighton.

Yeah Hampstead's expensive from what I hear.

If it's just a year then that's ok. Better just accept it's going to be expensive though, it's just to what degree.

EDIT: If we're suggesting places other than London for him to live as it's so expensive, maybe suggesting other expensive places like Birghton isn't the best idea.

It's no London of course, which is the second most expensive city in the world.

....have fun!

South London is cheap BECAUSE it's crap. :D

It depends what you want really, there's good and bad everywhere. There are nice bits of North London next to nasty bits of North London (look at how close Maida Vale (nice) is to Harlesden (NOT NICE)).

Hampstead on the whole is nice (which bit are you looking at? Hampstead PROPER is very expensive because it's very nice, whereas West and South Hampstead are cheaper, but also fairly nice with very good transport connections).

South London is generally cheaper but has much worse public transport (you're more reliant on trains and buses, as there's effectively very little in the way of decent Tube down there).

I'm used to live in a country where everything's fucking expensive - Copenhagen is the 6th or 7th most expensive city in the world ;) Bring it on bitches ;)

Not too sure actually but it's not THAT expensive ;)

I'd recommend Ealing in the west.

-2 very-main roads into/out of London (A4 and A40)

-Access to the London ring-road (North Circular)

-3 different subway lines into/out of Central London (District, Central, Picadilly)

-Not that expensive

-Nice houses

-Lots of green areas

-Safe (compared to many other places around London)

-And most importantly of all... a good import gaming shop! (Skill 2000 on the high street)
