I was reading this review of Creative Zen Micro vs. Apple iPod Mini, and the guy claimed to get a lot more battery with mp3s compared to wmas.

Zen Micro (MP3) 9:15:09
Zen Micro (WMA) 5:35:05

I was under the impression that wmas take less cpu power to decode than mp3s therefore saving the battery life. Is this a Creative player only thing? I really hope so cause I've been converting many of my most listened mp3s on my mp3 player to wmas :lol

I've never heard of such a thing, let alone one of such a massive difference as 4 hours based on CPU decoding. Then again, I have zero experience with Creative's players; Lem and co. may have a better idea on that. Probably worth nothing is that converting from one lossless format to another only further degrades the sound quality of the audio sample, but I suppose that only makes a difference if you can discern the audible differences.

I myself haven't notice any sound quality drops converting from mp3s to wma (vbr), but I'm sure there is some degradation sound quality. Plus it saves a lot of disk space since wmas are compressed better.

Still curious about the battery usage between mp3 and wma. Anyone have any ideas?

Here's the link to the review btw, forgot to post it in the first post. http://www.monsternet.org/reviews/zenmicroipodmini/page12.php
