$1200 and no built-in gamepad?????? Who is this for?
...For people who can afford the $100
Backbone One controller accessory. (*PlayStation Edition only available for iPhone.)
Wait... those aren't triggers on the top of the Xperia 1 IV? That's ridiculous, Sony, that's the best thing about Red Magic gaming phones (besides the performance, obviously) and trigger buttons are becoming a popular item with mobile gamers who actually consider mobile game a serious competitive gaming choice.
Dead on arrival.
Can't even buy these phones without Importing in Canada and they don't support all 5G bands. Nobody is buying this thing.
It's a shame too because after the last thread I've been considering the 1 IV for the video specs, and there's definitely a market for a PSP/Vita successor... but this is what they have spent their time on...
It's a different Sony. (We're talking Sony Electronic versus Sony Interactive Entertainment; the PlayStation division doesn't do a lot of dealings with the larger corp outside of synergitsically promoting TVs with good-looking games, though they did recently roll out VRR only on Bravia TVs I think?) Sony's PlayStation division has nothing to do with this, as is evident by how far away it is from a PS experience. "Jimbo" has nothing to do with this phone thing.
It's also a different audience. They're not making them for us (as you mentioned, it wouldn't even be compatible with mobile systems in Canada off the shelf; it's an Asian-market product, clearly) and they're not making them for PlayStation gamers.
...That said, I don't really see how this serves even the audience it
is going for, much less the audience they could have expanded into if they considered expanding into PS realms. 120Hz is nice, but not novel for for phones (Android has had it as a standard since 2019 I believe... not that all games could use it, but not even all games
will use it if they are too powerful for this phone to play at that framerate.) Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 but not 8+. No triggers, no buttons. Weird shape that's not great for a phone. $1200 cost. Just lots of aspects that are done better by others.
Why not make a phone with buttons and access to PS Store that would be able to play some PS4 games at like 720-1080p? No let’s make a super-expensive phone to play Clash of Clans instead.
I don’t understand this companys decisions sometimes.
Eh, a phone pretty much can't play PS4 games at 720/1080, even crappy games. You can port them over (there are a ton of even high-spec games like Genshin Impact and The Witness and soon Wreckfest which can be enjoyed perfectly well on your phone,) and you can build an infrastructure where phone games could be played on a PS4 (sort of like how PSP had the Minis and I think some "PlayStation Certified" products worked between PS3/4 and Vita, though those may have been original builds,) but to run an X86 app like a PlayStation game on a phone would probably not go so well.
