"Overall, Mr. Driller Drill Spirits is a decent game, but the lack of modes makes the fun short-lived. If you're guaranteed to be around other players who own the game, the multiplayer mode is a pretty cool diversion, but it's a shame that it requires multiple copies of the game, since it's so straightforward."

NDS AM BORN DEAD FIRST

Gamespot needs to hire someone who does nothing but stab editors with a cattle prod whenever they turn in a review with the word "overall" in it.

Ziff, meanwhile, needs someone to cattle-prod me whenever I try and use an adverb.

DFS.

Ouch, now THAT I didn't see coming. I'll probably still pick it up though, but I keep pushing it back on my want list. With FFI+II and KoH, I don't know of if I'll get it this year and it may not even be around in a few months.

Sounds just like the Mr.Driller that is availabe for the GBA in the US (edit: only EU!), i keep hearing in JP they got much better Mr.Drillers for the GBA.

Bastards are harshing on the game. This is the reason namco doesn't release more Driller games in America. Now nobody will get it and then we'll never see another driller game released stateside.

People put way too much meaning in a number.

Namco shouldn't have half-assed the game.

If it's half-assed & bare-boned, I'll probably just get Zoo Keeper instead. I enjoy that more than Driller (which I played a lot of on GBA anyhow).

Thanks! I was trying to contribute something as interesting and insightful as "Big surprise" to the thread.

Do I always have to write big huge statements about how I feel? I do that all the time! Just read some of my other ridiculously long posts!

But, my feeling for this score could be summed up, simply, with the phrase "Big Surprise."

For what it's worth, from what I know of the game (I haven't played it, but I have played something like 10 other games in the series), the text of the review is pretty accurate. I'm excited as hell that we're getting a new Driller game tomorrow, but it seems like a big step backwards from both Drill Land's numerous modes and Mr Driller G's story mode.

It isn't that bare-bones, though. It has the 6 playable characters that were introduced in G, at the very least, so it's definitely ahead of the first two games in that way. The 2-screen 'tate' feature is very cool as well. If nothing else, it looks like it's by far the best Driller game to hit the US (or Europe).

Ugh. I might grab it anyway since the only version I played and have is the DC version. And if the soundtrack is any as good as that one, I think it's worth the price tag for that alone.

It's definitely worth getting if you were into the DC one (and its music). Speaking of which, if you're into the music you're gonna love the rip of Drill Land's music that I spent a few hours today working on. :D

What type of music is it and when are you putting it up?

People expected good reviews for this? :lol

I love the series but I'm not naive... There's no way any game in this series will ever build more than a tiny niche in North America.

Hey Warpig--

Overall, for what it's worth, ultimately, the favorite opening phrase for a closing paragraph should be "all in all."

Muahahahah!

(I was using 'penultimate' to mean ultimate for a long time until a copy editor corrected me.)

Trying to describe it would be like trying to describe Katamari's music, and in fact when Katamari first came out several people immediately compared the two soundtracks and wanted to know if they were composed by the game person/people. It's not, but it's supremely, insanely awesome in very similar genre-obliterating ways, with all kinds of insane instrumentation. The credits list at the end of the game is a mile long, with at least half a dozen violinists listed, not to mention trumpet, trombone, viola, and pretty much everything else you can imagine.

I'm hoping to get it up within the next day or so, but it depends on how fast I can get the song titles translated. All the music recording is done and sounds great. I'll keep you all posted!

I feel the same way, except for the general abuse of the words "arena," and "a la." (Seriously, it drives me nuts worse than a pirate ship wheel.)

Cool, can't wait to hear it. I remember with the DC version pausing the game without playing it just to hear some songs while cleaning the house or something. That's saying something.

Well that sounds interesting. What about this one?
