MS buys the Xbone.com domain name

Meh, I say ps4 and x1.

But this is the X1:

I think Xbone is a pretty dumb nick. Ill say X1, Xone or something instead.

Hilarious that they got the domain though!

Got a good laugh out of this... I don't think I'll ever be able to stop calling it Xbone though, it rolls off the tongue too well

better to own it then have someone make terrible things up about it. on xbone.com

Pretty much, much like the newer PS3 games changed the sidebar name on game cases from Playstation 3 to PS3, I'd love it if Xbox one games had XBone on the box.

Own it MS, the short name fits and well, it will be used from now on anyway.

I can't believe you're still doing this. Do you not understand how silly it is? No matter what you're saying, no matter how insightful your post may be, it's always going to be completely overshadowed by your third-person crap.

Back in the 90s, I posted in a message board with a user named after a Beowulf character. Grendel, I think it was, and he did the third person shtick. Seeing it again is taking me back, I'm alright with it.

Man... It must really suck as PR to affirm something and then have it almost immediately contradicted.

Twice.

I mean the domain name. XBONE is a stupid name that gets laughs on gaf.

Xbone, Xbone, Xbone! :P

As if buying the domain will make people forget of this unique and speshul name GAF has bestowed upon that console.

EmptySpace actually thought the original name was going to be "xbox on" because that was supposed to be the first thing you'll say to the next-gen xbox, but after the debacle of the "always on", microsoft probably added an "e" there and changed it to "one".

either that, or as other have said, microsoft was banking on people calling it "one" just as people did with the 360.
polyh3dron is perplexed by this.

MS didn't actually take action in response to the negative feedback from their "always on" policy until well after E3 when the name was already announced. The name had been announced a month before E3 even.

On NeoGAF earlier this week, Major Nelson called the Xbone moniker disrespectful. "I don't like it...it disrespects the teams that have put in thousands of hours (already) into the development of the product. Sure, it's cheeky but I don't care for it myself," he wrote.

That's cool but it reminds me of the time when Microsoft tried to bone us,so there's that.

When i say XBONE I don't mean to disrespect the team of engineers behind the console nor its software programmers, I do it to make fun of the marketing team responsible for giving the console such name, besides it just is the perfect abbreviation for it.

"xbone ON!"

xbone is just a good name. "Major Nelson" on the hand, is a disrespectful name to all men and women in the military.

i think they wanted people to call it the one, just like alot of people go the 360 but instead its xbone

Sherri and Terri: "Look, it's Mrs. Potato Head! She has a head made out of lettuce!"
Ralph: "I can't believe I used to go out with you."
Janey: "Are you going to marry a carrot, Lisa?"
Lisa: [sarcastically] "Yes, I'm going to marry a carrot."
Sherri and Terri: "Ooh! She admitted it. She's going to marry a carrot!"

There was an NeoGAF member who was driving hard a campaign to nickname the OG Xbox "Xdude" back in the day. It was a bitter disappointment it never stuck, so "Xbone" staying as the nickname is pretty sweet. It's probably the growth of GAF that made it possible.

This.

The day of the Xbox reveal, I didnt like it and in fact protested against the name. Now, however it's the easiest abbreviation to roll off the tongue. I'm not sure why the Xbox group is so insecure ..

Well you can read it as X-Bone and as XB-One. It's a nick name and I don't think it's disrespectful. It's just a nick and nothing more. It's just shorter to use-

The official global name is Xbox One right? I mean, AFAIK it's not called Xbox Uno in Spain, it's called Xbox One. So I think Xbone is a natural abbreviation that works for everyone.

If MS didn't see this nickname coming then it just shows how disconnected from reality there were when designing this console. But we knew that already I suppose.

"Disrespectful" rofl.

Haha me too, XBO is horrible. It also looks like the person had a spasm right before finishing writing XBOX.

I read it as "eXtreme HBO", like the XFL version of HBO.

Can you image a XTREME version of Game of Throne?

At this point you would almost think that part of the process in coming up with a name for a product is to run it by a group of comedians to see what they can come up with.

When I use xbone it's just because it's faster to type usually, don't mean to be disrespectful.

If they don't like the nickname they have no one to blame but themselves, it wouldn't have been difficult to predict that people would adopt it when it is a very obvious shortening of xbox one.
