MS should have had 360 tech demos.

I was having lunch with some friends out there, and they said that the lack of tangible demos really killed MS presentation.

I think MS really needs to watch every MacWorld from the last five years. Steve Jobs and Apple really know how to make you go 'wow!! how did i ever live without that!!', and they could do that with a text editor.

Look at how much damage PS3 did with its tech demos. They've already got some of the most slobbered-after games known to man, and all they did was show what looked like gameplay. Then again, they have a whole year to go, so MS tech demos this close to launch might have been distracting when it's supposed to be shifting into gameplay gear already.

Maybe I was watching on a bad machine (although it was the kiosk right there at ATI's booth running the demo as a big deal), but I wasn't impressed by this at E3. Its texturing occasionally managed to stun when the camera was real, real close, but otherwise, it looked very "In-Game" to me.

I'm sure the X360 will break all records out of the gate. Launches have been getting bigger and bigger for years.

When the Playstation launched, it broke all records with 100,000 units sold in less than a week. Now, that would be a dismal failure.

I bet X360 hits two million (US) before Christmas without breaking a sweat, which will be a new record. It's hard to judge whether that's great or just good, though, with no competition in the market and launches becoming such a big deal (we even get software launch parties and media coverage now--like Madden this year, or Halo last year).
