MS: Xbox One 40x More Powerful Than 360 with the Cloud, Only 10x Without the Cloud

From Amazon for Forza 5

Infinite power. Infinite. Power.

Good god, I can't wait.

Infinite power. Infinite. Power.

Good god, I can't wait.
yeah, can't wait to see how finite it is.

That bullshit that the could makes the XBone like x30 times more 360s powerful than without the could, and not being able to use just one of the 360's in the could to bring the retrocompatiblility is just how MS is trying to troll us with all this bunch of smoke clouds and mirrors.

Er, that's not how "power" or retrocompatibility work. Having a given amount of "power" doesn't guarantee the possibility to emulate a less powerful hardware, especially if that "power" relies on distant servers.

Could there be a class action if they can't deliver on the x40 infinite power promise?

If things don't look all that impressive, they could just say, "We're not using much power from the cloud." "We haven't begun to tap much of the infinite power of the cloud." "The Xbox One is capable of being that powerful with the cloud, it's just expensive to do. We might use all that power at some point."

NVIDIA doesn't seem to think it's all BS.

The purchase of Gaikai seems to indicate that Sony doesn't either...

I am not saying it's going to change things day one but to say it's all garbage is too extreme at least as I'm seeing it.

Neither of those things is what MS is promising. The GeForce Grid, Gakai, and Onlive are all about rendering the game from their company and sending a video if it to the user. The only interaction is sending you video and receiving your controls. Those companies are having a lot of trouble just doing that because of the latency. MS is promising that their cloud servers are going to make their console incredibly strong - 4 times as strong than without it - because of all this complicated processing shit that its cloud servers will do back and forth with your console.

It's bullshit. They're just saying "look over there!" and hoping you won't pay attention to their horrible DRM.

If they are going to use the cloud power bullshit in ads I hope they like getting dragged to court and fined.

Neither of those things is what MS is promising.

Exactly just finished reading that article.

They also say:

Will traditional PC gaming still be around? Most certainly; for those who demand the best quality and performance, it's still the best choice.

Streaming is definitely viable in the distant-for-some not-too-distant for others future (OnLive proved that but they were obviously too early to the market)

Currently you have media companies and governments around the world cockblocking investments into Fibre to the home deployments claiming that 25megabit should be enough for everyone. I can see this sort of stuff taking off when 100mbit is the norm, and again streaming is much more viable than this deferred computing MS is talking about.

Neither of those things is what MS is promising.

I was discussing the Cloud stuff generally not MS's claims....I just read several comments discarding the concept completely and from what I've been reading it has more than just MS's support/interest.

*This is not a defense of MS and their numbers/claims. I just wanted to comment that others with high credibility have invested in the possibility that Cloud technology might be more than BS.

Does it? Most companies are supporting cloud streaming. Tell which companies are support MS's frankly BS claim that cloud processing can increase the power of their game/system by 4 times.

I understand what you mean. I just want to point out those companies are investing in a very specific thing: streaming interactive video. MS is doing (claiming to do) something completely different.

I'm not a huge fan of the Kinect either but I don't think it should be banned from the forum.
Well considering deliberately misrepresenting facts is typically bannable I don't really see how perpetuating that gif is different. Unless I'm missing something, plus I'm 95% that stage demo wasn't even real time anyway.

What I curious about with the new kinect gestures is whether or not theyre responsive like an iPhone. Like, if I make the "pinch to zoom" gesture and only go half way will the video scale in tune with my gesture? Or is it just a static/digital spread hand gesture = video minimized. If its the latter that's seriously disappointing and unnatural.

Don't get it wrong, cloud gaming is a stupid idea with a lot of flaws, just not 100% impossible like doing latency sensitive processing on the cloud and streaming the data to the console for the GPU or CPU to integrate with local processing.

Why is it a stupid idea?

I rewatched the conference again (I know, ugh) and apparently the cloud only consists of CPU's and storage... no GPU's I suppose. This was said during the conference.

So I don't know about it boosting graphics or anything like that... well that and latency.

There are pretty severe technical limitations when you're talking about asynchronous processing in near real-time.

With streaming it's a much simpler process although still highly reliant on a strong client connection, local points of presence and good interconnect from client to POP, you have control input that gets passed to the cloud servers and you get an update in your compressed video stream some time later (depending on your connection and systems in play).

With what they are talking about you are handling your input/output locally and at the same time you're asynchronously offloading certain tasks, it would be hard to predict when these finish and you couldn't use this for anything that's game critical because a time out would mean you cant finish that critical task until you get your response.

Ah, I see....I guess I am confusing two different concepts. If nothing else it'll be interesting to see how it pans out. Thanks for pointing the distinction out.

Theoretically speaking, Microsoft could build an enormous server farm on the dark side of the moon and use quantum entanglement to instantly shift information to your Xbox One. Theoretically speaking.

I can't wrap my head around one thing.

1. I buy GTA6 and it has all these cloud advanced features.
2. It's awesome, the cloud stuff makes it the best game ever made.
3. 10 years after it comes out, I want to play it again.
4. The servers aren't up anymore
5. ???

So do I now play an inferior version of the game with only local processing or can I not play the game at all?

Why wait 10 years? You have an Internet outage, then what? (Never mind the 24 hour authentication)

If this does mean guaranteed dedicated servers for all multiplayer games, that would be a good thing. If you play multiplayer.

Seriously guys, this shit is just shocking. If ever there was a revelation of how incompetent this industry is at the moment, this is it.

Here is a fucking company who actively has announced things that WILL negatively impact every single consumer on the market... and then, in an attempt to muddy the waters, released literally like five or six different versions of the story to try to pretend it wasn't a problem. Oh hey, WE CAN CONFIRM that no used games is false! Wait, I mean *you* won't pay a fee! See, no fee! Don't look behind the curtain, because we're about to tell you that your friends WILL have to pay! Now hold on, what we mean is you just can't lend games without your friend payin' a fee, you can still resell games! Wait a second, we're just discussing POTENTIAL SCENARIOS. Oh wait, think of it like it's a new game... NO FUCKERS, IT'S NOT A GODDAMN NEW GAME. YOU FUCKING DIRTY NO-GOOD ASSHOLES. Goddamn, Microsoft is the worst company ever. Where were the journalists with a list of all the stories being told about this subject, showing them to the latest bullshit artist representing the Xbox One and demanding some honest straight forward answers?

Ok, so what's next? Oh yeah, hey everyone...if you use CLOUD, the Xbox One will get a billion times stronger! A trillion! A zillion! "But wait," anyone with a shred of fucking intelligence responds, "what happens if the internet goes down? What happens if you don't have as faster of a connection? How would such shit get around the endless cloud service bottlenecks? How will it do any fucking thing you assholes say? Can a fucking game journalist do their job?" Find out at eleven o'clock!

No, you won't be able to rent games! Fuck that shit, what a privilege all you potential thieves out there have had for this long! How dare you have such a right, like trying these gargantuan bloated MODERN AAA pieces of garbage out so you don't waste $60 fucking bucks playing the latest 4 hour hallway corridor generation X-Z nonsense title produced almost entirely by eight thousand board rooms across the planet. But hey, it has multiplayer guys! The same fucking multiplayer you've played in Call of Duty twenty eight thousand times, but it's there! VALUE ADDED!

No, you won't be able to fucking use your games beyond 24 hours if you don't have an internet connection, because we believe your lardy, undeveloped asses are so goddamn lazy that you're willing to actively give up ownership privileges just so you can fucking swap games around a little easier! Of course, that's all bullshit, because this is all an elaborate scheme to fuck piracy up some more, even though every fucked up DRM scheme that has been tried this past generation has reamed honest, hard-working and hard-payin' consumers so far up the ass that they have gaping holes larger than what's at the center of the fucking Milky Way Galaxy.

Now there are obviously exceptions. Some game journalists are raging. But this shit is ridiculous. EVERY major website right now should be eviscerating Microsoft. IGN should be fucking vomiting at these decisions every five second around the clock until the system launches. They should be disemboweling these pathetic PR representatives of these hateful corporations, spitting their sludge all over the faces of everyone who ever purchased games from them, denying them even a second to mislead legions of consumers into thinking the system is anything except what it is: the world's biggest fucking cock being whipped out and slapped across your goddamn face!

Oh, what about this shit? Why is your focus during your GAME CONSOLE reveal fuckin' TV? Why have you chosen your philosophy? WHY should gamers take this shit lying down? WHAT BENEFIT DOES IT HAVE TO YOUR CUSTOMERS!? For the love of Christ, someone ask some hard goddamn questions! You are all informed to the tit, please use your knowledge to slash these assholes throats so that all the bullshit will spill out and we'll stop having to swim through torrents of anti-consumer diarrhea!

God you sound like me about all this. Well done here.

not defending them.....

but isnt all white or black

u can achieve also mid...doing some computing in local and some on the cloud.....IMO poiting today to a FULL cloud machine ..would be so stupid...for this reason i dont think grid and gaikai will work for the next 5 6 years...

but something in the mid.....yeah that could work

physics ai...weather ecc ecc lots of stuff

i hope that at least with this enormous server farm...xbox live become the home of rpg and mmorpg at least

game needs to be activated every 24 hours, so you cant play it at all if the servers are not there

Why is garbage like this allowed on this forum?

oh my god!!

my fucking god!!!
someone is showing the truth in a gif!!!
I cannot stand the fact that MS did a false live showing of Kinect!!!
we must stop this senseless slaughter of MS now!!!

wont someone please think of the children!!!

You forgot:

6. Profit!
for Microsoft and Rockstar

And not able to play the game is not a problem. Who would want to do this anyway. You are supposed to have already bought the Xbone 3 and play GTA X instead. Otherwise you are worthless for the industry.
to summarize: don't buy Xbone

What happens when these servers are inevitably the victim of hackers/DDOS attacks? Everyone knows that tech/entertainment companies are some of people's favorite targets, and with Microsoft's fairly strong anti-consumer stance with the Xbox One, it's almost a certainty that people are already gearing up to take the servers down. What's gonna happen when they have a Sony-style prolonged outage?

Open revolt, probably. Redmond will burn.

You're right because MS is actually doing something better! they are using Azure which is one of the top cloud services in the world which is what the developers are going to have access to. Gaikia is a streaming client for hd content not what MS is doing. Besides sony does not have the same infrastructure as Ms who's investing a lot if money into this space they are rapidly trying to move into becoming a cloud base business. which is why they are pushing this stuff. Windows virtual desktops and things like that plus adding 300,000 servers for xbox live that a 2000 percent increase when 15,000 servers are doing just fine on xbox live. You need to do you hw on Azure before you start doubting it. It will be funny when they are actually demoing this stuff at e3 wont be so silly then.

Servers they are adding for live is for dedicated online and dvr stuff. The developers are going to be using Azure for their cloud base computing where people are creating vms and stuff on right now. they said xbox live matches can go up to 128 player matches now from day one. Only X1 and pc can make that claim as of right now.

I don't see how native processes + cloud processes running in tandem will work. Nearly everything the cloud is doing will not be able to be sent to your console fast enough. Wouldn't it be better for them to do what Gaikai is doing? Just have the whole game running in the cloud and spit the video to your console. Video streaming is much more stable than sending gigabytes of data to your console to process itself.
