This was a great film that I just finished watching on Netflix. I loved the acting, the themes, the story, the characters. A solid A-in my opinion.
Pros:
-Matthew McConaughey as Mud, who plays his part masterfully.
-Loved the setting as a backwoods place in Arkansas, and how it focused on just this unexciting backwoods place.
-Props to the actor who played Ellis And Neckbone. Amazing perforance.
-Constrasting the themes of 'multiple sides of the story' and Ellis vs Neckbone in terms of Romance were also great.
-Loved how the snakes came back to play a big part, though I figured as such because they focused a bit too much on it.
-The ending was great and fitting. I liked how Ellis didn't know, but I wish Mud sent him one final letter with one or two words.
-Mud = Jesus? Or possibly Adam?
-The camera shots were brilliant showing how Ellis and his home changing, how the film paralled the beginning.

Cons:
-The girl with the nightgale tattoos should have been more fleshed out. She just seemed like a typical sterotype with no layers IMO.
-I wish the family situation was given more focus because it was kinda just meh... Like one scene with some more character development.
-The boat? How'd they get it down...
-So... How did Mud escape from the police after beating up the men. Did he wear a disguise? Was that a lie?

Overall: A-
Definitely give it a watch.
On netflix right now.

One of the best original films of the past few years and the film that solidified McConaughey as a truly gifted actor for me.

I just wish it didn't telegraph the bit with the snakes from a MILE away.

im still not used to the idea of matthe mcchourhney being one of the best guys in the biz.

This guy build his career on having that accent, looking smug and taking of his shirt all the time. Every time I would see him in some film, he was literally just filler. like a cardboard box of grey sand paper. not good, nor bad. Just obnoxiously in love with his own abs and accent.

and then True Detective hits, and it's like. jesus christ. Its like they put him into a good-actor machine. Did he really have that talent in him for all that time? most vicious stereotypecast ever? Or did he simply take a lot of acting classes? It's bizarre. It's like a completely different person.

It would be like if Kirsten Dunst suddenly was an oscar award nominate worthy actor with stellar performances across the board. It's just impossible to imagine, but I guess anything is possible.

He was always charismatic even in the worst of movies and he showed a lot of promise in earlier roles, he just got put into a box do to his looks that happened to pay him a lot.

I thought he was good in Dallas Buyers Club and Mud but fuck True Detective is a fucking great performance.

They should have just left the scene at the beginning, and the story with the bite. Then continue the movie until the part where he gets bit. They showed way too much.
She deserves one, if nothing else than for putting up with Lars von Trier.
Definitely. Von Trier's Nymphomanic was terrible. Only the opening was great like Anti-Christ. The other stuff was him waving his pretencious (fake) artsy dick around. And terrible edits.
check Take Shelter, Nichols' superior film from just before Mud. fantastic movie
Thanks. I will try to watch it.
