HxH became sketchbook art by the end, literally. We joke about it, but it's true.

The anime fixed all of that.

The Hunter x Hunter volumes also fixed that.
Also the series isn't over, it has just restarted (finally) and the art is good.

i can't believe we're not past three chapters yet, if you hadn't read the manga, the pacing wouldn't feel toooooo bad imho.

Still think they could've swung training first half, battle second half,
end on manifestation of One For All.
. Maybe there's less time between now and
USJ than I thought?

I actually like the leisurely pace. They could've rushed in the name of money, but instead they're taking their time and adapting well.

Like, how the One for All light ball sequence becoming the extended light show in the anime from one panel, something wouldn't work in a manga!

Interesting to me that is is constantly being compared to HxH. Don't get me wrong, HxH was alright, but I felt like it really lacked a big punch line that kept the overall plot interesting. And I saw seventy episodes. Meanwhile, in the first 3 episodes of this show, they manage to make Deku an absolutely incredibly endearing character whose motivations and shortcomings are made super clear, and (imo) builds a stronger connection with the audience than Gon could only hope to achieve.

I'm sorry I wish I liked HxH as much as everyone else.

Did you happen to see the episode where Gon
has to steal a tag from Hisoka?

That, in my opinion, is one of my favorite episodes of HxH because it really solidly defines who Gon is. In spite of the odds being against him, he does it anyways. And not just blindly rushing in, but doing it right.

Oh bummer I didn't realize season 1 was only 13 episodes

Kinda bummed we won't get to the Sports Festival but I understand that they probably want a big buffer of chapters before they go on a more regular schedule

The last thing I want for MHA is to get bogged down by filler bullshit like Naruto

Admittedly, it's been a while since I've seen the show. Like, a long time, almost 2 years so I don't remember tooooo much. That being said, my opinion should be taken incredibly lightly especially since MHA is so recent, but after watching all those episode of Hunter x Hunter my understanding of Gon isn't too deep, which I dunno, I feel like that says something to some degree. He wanted to find his dad, he was an excellent Hunter, very precocious and gifted, clever, etc but I don't remember him really struggling too much in most situations and tends to come out on top, aside from yeah, battling Hisoka. I've been intending on revisiting the show at some point to really make my opinion on the show clear.

WHAT seriously!? Damnnnn! I thought it was 2 core =(

Still, they could've done 2-cour without problems. I don't know if the Souma anime would've worked that well, if it were only 1-cour.

I watched the first and second episodes of this, what a disappointment.

This season can't end fast enough, nothing so far worth watching.

Have you seen Kabaneri of the iron fortress???

Shits got old 90s glorious animation style and is basically Attack on Titan anime except swapped in is Zombies instead and in a Steam Punk world war 2 era Japan.

have you tried
  • Diamond is Unbreakable
  • Kabaneri
  • Joker Game
  • Swagamoto
  • Flying Witch
  • Haifuri
  • Bakuon!!
yet?

Only Swagamoto, can't stand another ship girl, AoT/SnK clone, cute girls doing cute things anime.

I always liked Shōnen animes, I don't know what happened that I can't get into them anymore.

The animation is good but after AoT I'm not touching anything similar to that.

Adding
Re:Zero: boy transported into fantasy world... with an interesting twist. It also has some very good dialogue, character interactions and action. The first episode is double length and a bit slow, but the second half should have your interest and so far it's only been getting better
Kagewani S2: 8 minute anime, so the first season should take you about 2 hours. Its an excellent creepy/horror/atmospheric anime
Kiznaiver: I'm still not exactly sure where it's going, but so far it's been a great ride.

Then watch Joker Game. A pre-WW2 historical spy anime with intelligent, adult characters involved in politics, war preparation and diplomacy.

So you're saying I should watch Kabaneri?
It's pretty promising so far, despite my reservations against "Totally not Attack on Titan".

HxH isn't based around Gon's character the same way MHA is with Deku. I don't mean that as a bad thing, HxH's appeal is the complex battles, not complex characters.

Started watching this a week ago when the 2nd episode released. Had been meaning to read the manga for a long time, but never sat down and actually read it yet.

I like the show but could tell that the first two episodes should have really been trimmed down. At the very least the first two episodes could have been done in 20 minutes instead of a combined 30.

Started reading the manga while waiting for the third episode and will continue to read it and catch up to the latest release since I like it a lot, as well as continue watching the anime even if it has pacing issues. I might avoid the manga thread until I catch up lol.

I noticed Midoriya's mom getting fatter immediately lol. I figure it might be to actually show a mom realistically getting heavier while also being a joke about her power. (A non-manga spoiler)
Her ability is to pull things towards herself, like a gravitational pull. The more mass an object has the greater the pull.

Oh man, that is funny, never occurred to me.

Also it made me laugh that they changed the scene of Bakugou with his friends that were talking about smoking cigarettes to doing "something" at an arcade.

Reminds me of Naruto.
The creator was indeed a fan of Naruto and there is one character that'll appear soon that has the same role as Kakashi but that's the only similarity that's the most prominent and the best thing from Naruto in my honest opinion.

Wow I feel like an idiot for not figuring that out

Three episodes of fairly standard but well executed shounen and people are already putting this anime up against some of the greats? Seems a bit preemptive.

I watched the first two episodes of this and wasn't that impressed. Midoriya cries too much and is too meek for my taste. If that's my initial reaction, is it worth sticking with?

The first two episodes only covered the first chapter of the manga, Deku grows a lot from that point.

Deku really grows throughout and I understand his meekness since it would make sense given his situation.

For real though growing up in a world where 80% of the population has magic powers and you don't would suck. Wonder how drastically this would affect the economy, you even saw the teacher make fun of how he knew all the kids would say they wanted to be heroes. Then again there is a plentiful need for masons with the amount of buildings that get destroyed!

Well, not every Quirk is actually useful or strong enough to be utilized for anything but partytricks.

The powers do remind me of Morrison's X-Men, where not every mutant was graced with a good mutant ability.

Don't worry, he is not as much as cry baby later on, but he remains earnest in his personality. I think the next episode (Chapter 4) is going to be the tipping point for a lot of watchers.

Yeah some Quirks are quite detrimental to the person and their surroundings. And some use equipment to keep their power in line. And the Quirks greatly vary.
