I've been reading the manga for a bit, but just decided to look into the anime and...

Bones are knocking it out of the park!

Well, this ep I totally predicted that he'd end up fighting the 0-point robot because of saving somebody, get no points, but pass because of heroism

But I was also completely convinced he wouldn't get superpowers. I thought All Might was fucking with him as a placebo and to get him to exercise, haha. So that scene was pretty unexpected. And also pretty hype.

Honestly the idea of All Might fucking with him would have been hilarious. "Midoriya, my boy, look at all this awesome power! It can be yours! Here, eat my hair and go punch some bad guys"

Izuku goes around trying to punch robots and failing horribly. Gets injured, recovers, becomes the Batman.

I think what makes this hilarious, is that Tokoyami is the closest thing this world has to a Batman-type character, but is much more sociable (and mellow) when he's helping his teammates out.

He just needs a glider cape, which is what his costume is severely missing.

I find it funny how in all the big supehero anime of recent years, so Tigger & Bunny, One Punch Man and now My Hero Academia, all superheres are working through goverment structures. This opposed to american style of superheroes who mostly to it independent vigilante style.

I guess it shows the love of order Japanese society has :)

If his ultimate goal was to save her, couldn't he have just lifted the rock that was holding her back instead of going nuts?

I wasn't necessarily expecting him to get powers, but I did anticipate it. I kind of wanted to see how this story would be if it was really about a powerless kid who manages to rise above the rest through his ingenuity and determination.

If I remember correctly, In the manga she just tripped and was paralyzed by fear so she couldn't move. I think even Ochako could have lifted the rock with her power, unless it was above her weight limit.

Other than that, he doesn't have the power control run fast enough to go there and use his power to lift the rock. Punching the robot felt more natural.

Also it looks cooler.

Manga talk in this thread is pretty annoying to be honest :p

I'm surprised this thread hasn't adopted the "NO MANGA SPOILERS" policy that other anime threads tend to follow.

I say that as a manga reader brehs. I like seeing the unspoiled reactions of anime-only watchers and you all are trying to take that from me. :(

I mean we've already seen that his power literally shatters his bones because his body can't handle it.

He might as well not have powers or you might as well consider them his utility belt since he can only use them once per limb before shit go boom. But I'v never understood the whole "it would have been better had he stayed Quirkless" argument since Batman very clearly has superpowers, and those powers are having a metric shitload of money, being one of the smartest people on earth, and having a literal god as his best friend.

Giving the kid the ability to punch something once before his arm explodes really isn't that out there compared to the Bat.

It has. It's also common sense, or should be. But that apparently doesn't stop people.

My dick is diamonds.

The rescue was one of my favorite moments of the manga and the resulting broken bones is really where I got even more fucking in. The way the handled the floppiness of his fucking bones just being utterly destroyed in his arms and legs too. My god. Goldennnnn. The bones fixing themselves and his feet just turning back 180 degrees to fix themselves was super oh jeez too.

A glass cannon like Deku just makes me so fucking happy. The way they handled it all so far makes me super happy.

Also fucking god damn if I couldn't love Deku's mom more than I already did. Every moment with her has me just grinning ear to ear. If anyone is the real best girl it's her. Fucking #1. Also for anyone who still is annoyed at Deku crying, just look at his mom. Shit's hereditary and environmental. And I still love that she got chubs instead of retaining her hottest mom status. It's too good.

Also rainbow puke. 5 seconds before it happened I was asking for it and they delivered. Rainbow puke is the greatest addition to the manga>anime transition forever. I still love how great of a way it is to get around censors. The fucking sounds she makes during the puke is fantastic too. Blehelelelele.

I just realized -- Uraraka got those Rescue Points not from helping Deku when he was falling, but from when she tried to give her points away for him

Man I can't wait to hear Froppy's voice

By the way, Recovery Girl's voice is so different to what I was expecting, but it kinda fits her image, lol

can't wait for the inevitable flashback "yo she was the SEXIEST back in the day. THE SEXIEST."

You sure about that? I didn't even consider it.

Though I did just notice that it was only because of Deku that she passed because it seems like 50 or so points is the minimum needed.

She was probably one of the original waves of heroes, before they organized or quirks became the norm.

Man, Deku really had terrible luck. I imagine most of the quirkless population skews older.

It would make sense -- it's the same principle of self-sacrifice that All Might talked about.

Yeah, the Quirkless population is listed as 20%, so most of them are ancient geezers.

...incidentally, Deku is from the fifth generation of Quirk users, according to the doctor at the beginning, so taking a generation to be "20 years", MHA takes place in the 22nd century. Which matches up with them having robots.

I think Quirks manifested before our present year in an alternate reality fashion.

Edit: But yeah it has been awhile since then because of the nature of All Might's, now Deku's, Quirk.

Just finished episode 2. Midoriya just said "By the way, this is the story of how I become the greatest hero ever"

Is that supposed to be hopeful or actual literal, as in he's narrated that line from a future tense???

It's being told in the past tense by him to somebody.

I imagine the narration as Deku telling the story to his successor.

I knooooooooooooooooow. I swear if they had that arc in the now airing episodes, people would go nuts over the series

It has a perfect end point too.

If it weren't for the fact that they couldn't get this slot for a second cour, it'd totally have happened.
