Afaik, many thought he would be like Batman and got dissappointed when he got a quirk which was brute-power to boot and dismissed him as yet another standard shonen protagonist who punches his way through everything without thinking.
Manga readers obviously argued against that for good reason and the thread became close to a spoiler minefield for a time.
Then mods changed the title to the current one in hope to avoid that useless discussion and apparently it worked.

People were also expecting a keikaku protagonist, because that is what has become synonymous with smart in anime/manga.

"If he's so smart, why does he get a quirk? I thought he was going to be like Batman." Ironic since that was like one of the early concepts but was change quickly.
Him getting a quirk doesn't take away from his Intelligence. He's probably one of the few shonen protags that's smart in and out of battle

This explains it better thx

Ok, they did it to me again. They played the episode up to that dramatic one moment, but I'll be dammed if that wasn't a pretty cool way to get away from that group and escape from the sinking boat. I can see why the show drives sone people crazy with this presentation style, but at the same time there is a certain charm and awesomeness to it, lol. Good stuff.

I hope we get to see more of the other hereos next episode as well.

I don't really see the point in discussing the pacing anymore. It's basically been done from every angle at this point: "show is slowish/fine/decent, needs more than 13 episodes, blah blah blah."

Is that why you're responding to comments that are a week old and solely bringing the subject back up?

HxH is ridiculously slow.

I binge watched it, but up until yorknew city the show isn't anything too special

I disagree.

So, uh, wait then?

Yeah, I'll take the time travel machine and do just that. I don't go into every weekly series expecting to not be thrilled with the pacing; I'm quite satisfied with many despite the format, in fact.

LMAO Mineta is top class.

But what's the deal with his quirk? I remember him doing well in one of Aizawa's tests by bouncing very fast, i guess those sticky things have properties that still haven't been introduced right?

Also, Tsuyu's quickly rising spots in my best girl chart.

The balls don't stick to him, they just bounce off. In the test he was bouncing off them.

I think he mentioned it but it was definitely mentioned in the manga during the boat segment. Mineta doesn't stick to his balls but instead bounces off them. Everything else sticks to it for upwards of an entire day.

Gotcha.
I guess it can have some use if used by someone smart ie. Izuku and not Mineta

Good episode but the pacing is definitely off. Tired of waiting the entire episode for shit to pop off then it either doesn't and we have to wait till next week or it does for 2 mins and then it ends. Then if they make you wait it will last the first 5 mins of the next episode then go back to building up again before getting you hype and making you wait another week.

repeatperreapttet

Still entertaining but yeah.

When the flashbacks started on that ship though, I was like "Plz stahp". Was worried we'd get an avalanche of them.

Well damn, I now see why manga readers like frog girl so much, she has moved up in my eyes with her smarts and calm demeanor. Nice ep to, I wish we got this action 3 eps ago.

I don't get the whole "call me Tsu" thing. Why is Deku so hung up about it?

In Japan, most people address each other with their last names instead of their first. The first is often reserved for family, friends and close ones. Tsuyu prefers people who she considers to be friends with call her by her first name or Tsu for short. Deku was just being polite and stammered a bit.

I'm still waiting for something great to happen combat wise, the manga/anime has potential but it's boring as fuck, the fact that Midoriya break every bones he had every time he tries something is really annoying, I know its temporal but he's useless for now to me, not what I'm waiting for from a MC.

The pacing is really off with this anime too, seriously, there is two episode left and I was terribly hyped last week after the invasion from vilains but this episode was finally boring, nothing happened.

Isn't "Tsu" just a funimation thing. Reading Tsu and hearing Tsuyu-chan bothers me a little for some reason, hope I'm not the only one.

The lack of gifs from this episode bothers me more though.

Your best bet is to pick up the manga, they only had a 13 episode season and the next manga arc would be too long to fit with the ones you've seen in an expertly paced season hence the stretch out of the content we've seen to fit the episode count.

Also I'm not sure how you can say nothing happened when we got multiple scenes of erasure fighting, Deku's water trap plan, along with a montage of the other kids doing stuff quickly.

Thanks for the explanation.

Deku also is kind of stuttery when talking to girls, so when she all of a sudden asked him to call him by her first name it really took him for a surprise (I mean they haven't really interacted much lol).

You normally only call someone by their first name if you are
Family
Close Friends
Lovers

I didn't expect Mineta's voice to be that light. It really suits him since he's such a shitbag. A kind of lovable hateable shitbag, but you know, all the same.

I was glad we got to see Deku resolve the situation too. It felt like I was getting close to getting blueballed for a second there, but we got it. I was going to post a manga panel of an amazing line, but sadly the episode ended 5 seconds beforehand.

The whole Tsuyu-chan thing is just something I have to process without reading the subs. Asui-san and her family name versus her first name being Tsuyu plus the -chan ending. It means a lot more to Deku than her which is why it makes him uncomfortable.

honestly though at this point people will find the mangas pacing very good since alot of the readers point out the manga moves fast.

I wasn't expecting Shadow Warp Dude's voice to sound like that. I was expecting a different voice.

Started reading the manga after the second episode. Don't regret it except I have to wait every week and everything usually gets spoiled for me in the manga thread before I get to read the actual chapter :(

It bothers me too, considering the English manga gets it right. Get your shit together, Funi.

This is one of the first times I said to myself, this episode needed 20 more minutes (but thats probably becuase i watched two episodes last week back to back), so yeah, the pacing has a lot of issues in this last episodes. It lets me the desire of wanting more, but not in a good way, like it just feels too short.

Other than that Tsuyu and Midoriya (those smarts on to full steam) where amazing in this episode. My favourite girl is still Mina (becuase of her design and his few scenes), but Tsuyu has been escalating quickly ranks in being amazing and adorable.
And as someone that havent read the manga I feel like Mina is probably a super minor character and is not going to have many scenes, but I hope im worng and it surprises me. Nearly all the class has been great.

The scene with All Might and the principal was hilarious.

Lets just take 5 minutes to allow the principal to talk about a bunch of bullshit.

How do you guys feel about "quirk" as a translation for 個性?

Why hasn't Funimation uploaded the episode to Hulu.? :rage

It's probably the best possible sounding translation unless they went with the boring-but-appropriate "power" or "ability," or maybe "trait."

"Quirk" highlights just how broad a spectrum there is and how random individual Quirks can be.
