I dunno I didn't read that far, just 5-6 chapters or so. What I didn't like is that
the story goes from being about a guy without powers wanting to become a hero to a guy who inherits the Chosen One (TM) powers because of sheer luck, and goes on his way to become a hero. It's so... generic. I thought it was going to explore what it really means to be a hero outside of powers and stuff, and that maybe he creates a suit and uses all his analytic knowledge about superpowers to basically be the Batman of this universe. But nope. Chosen One (TM) superpowers!!! Zzzzzz.

I think if you continue you will be pleasantly surprised.

either way the show isn't
batman or superman but more teen titans.

Iris Zero might be closer to what you want. But that's not shonen action though.

I love this scene so much...

That scene fucking killed me

A lot of the surface plot events are standard shounen -- but it's about how it's told, not what happens.

BONES is perfect for this type of show because they know how to nail the humor, and this manga is chock full of humor

I think the episode ending might've been better if
it had ended on the All-Might reveal
.

Overall thought it was a pretty solid opening. Maybe I've read the first chapter too often haha.

Well, the issue with that is Batman's actual superpower is having all the fucking money in the world, so that's not a path open to him.

it never really goes in that direction though, which can be disappointing if that's solely what you're looking for

I don't want to go into manga details too much in the anime thread, but even in the context of looking for that thing, I feel like this series still does justice to that, just not in the most literal sense of the story arc.

Ultimately series like this makes concession to craft the overall story it wants to tell.

And I prefer the execution of (manga spoiler)
highly flawed power that turns him into Captain America with some Batman with limited usage of Hulk Smash
instead of
yo, I'm suddenly motherfucking Batman, without needing the money and decade long ninja training

Nah that's not true. There are Batman stories where he is in situations where he has no access to his wealth at all. He still works it out because he's a brilliant tactician and handles being put on the spot really well. Like that one time Bruce Wayne got thrown back in time and had to survive multiple eras of Gotham from the stone age all the way to the far future, improvising all the way!

The gimmick
is that All Might powers cripple him, so he can't abuse them. Though when I stopped reading it he was starting to get more control over his powers but there was a time limit and using the powers left him pretty much super tired iirc. He still relies on his wit and analitycal abilities (the notebook he keeps that he uses to write down the different quirks alludes to this) and there's a twist later that was cool. Something refreshing in shonen fighting manga.

Don't worry, it gets there. Not the way you imagined it, but the solution this series has resembles your imagination a bit :)

i still enjoy it but yeah
the premise of a guy who wants to be a hero with no powers last like 5 minutes

I guess that makes him being able to keep up with the other powered characters more believable but I admit this seems pretty disappointing.

Didn't take long for this thread to become a spoiler minefield.

Yeeeeeah as excited as I am for the Anime finally being made its always shitty how threads like this get turned into a spoiler minefield. Even if the Spoilers are spoiler tagged no one gives a reason why their spoiler tagged and can lead to someone clicking them.

We have both a manga thread AND a MHA manga thread, there is zero reason to be discussing manga spoilers or where the story goes here.

Just stopped by and yeah...... The Community threads are a great place for that because I don't want to hit those spoilers by accident, especially on mobile, where I can't avoid them!

EDIT: LOL, I just saw it's
Ducky's
fault! LOL.

Anyhow, this is going to be a fun show.

Ok, I liked that a lot more than I thought I would. Although, I wish he at least punched that a$$hole in school in the face and then got his butt kicked. It was good background introduction as for his character and really explained his dispositions well. This should be an interesting watch.

His whole life seemed to have been that, though. Plus it seemed that day was especially straining him and he was no longer in the mood to fight back.

I know, it's just unfortunate, because I really didn't like him. I can tell he is going to be a constant antagonist though..... I hope he get's his chance one day to pop him in the mouth...

The intro scene is of him fighting back, and, well...
I love how smooth the animation is of the sink being turned off. It's the little things.
kid deku so adorable

True, but he was a punk, so he needed to get popped.

This scene was pretty sad and you really felt bad for him..

I'm glad to good to know that now to temper expectations. The first episode doesn't look like it's going in that direction at all.

I love this scene so much...

I feel like both of these gifs will be very useful during E3.

I am legit curious, what's your predictions?

Dude legit has super power, manifests while at hero academy, is a rare trait, becomes strong, standard anime shonen stuff. Heck, the intro with him in a super hero costume basically confirms this.

If I am 100% wrong then I may give it a chance but E01 was the definition of generic. Maybe that's what they're going for?

Anyway, already dropped it since nothing about it was remotely appealing.

90% wrong

100 Percent wrong. I think one of the reasons the manga is so popular is cause it doesn't take such a cliche route.

This is actually what i was hoping it would be too, was sad its not going that route. Still like what ive read so far

Ehhhh I think he's 90% right.

It depicted perspiration-vs-inspiration and zero-to-hero with a heart of gold story excellently and that's terrific. Don't dismiss it with the first episode though as generic though, it has plenty of charms.

Hmm.

First bit, nope, second bit, nope, 3rd bit... sorta, 4th bit, sorta but not in the way you're thinking.

It gets kinda spoilery though and we already did the "deluge anime thread with manga spoilers" once, hop over into the manga thread if you want details.
