Normally i'd be okay with the idea of celestia being a tyrant who came into rule through power and rewrote history to depict herself as Godmare supreme, but thats only fun when its a crazy alternative interpretation. -.- not as fun if it becomes canon that powerful unicorns can digivolve into alicorns. i'm worried.
If it does indeed go in such a direction, it's stupid. I'm talking about Midiclorian levels of stupidity.

I dunno how to really feel about it though. I remember Faust saying that she never intended there to be other alicorns besides Celestia and Luna, and now we've got four. Then again the whole sun, moon and stars thing means Twilight as an alicorn still makes more sense than Cadance...
I'll reserve my judgement, but I am worried that this will mess up Twilight as a character. She's already the most powerful mage in Equestria and now she's gonna become what is basically a goddess? And let's not forget that this messes up the whole "two of each race" thing the Mane 6 had going so far. But still, I'll wait and see how they handle it.

And yes, it'll be interesting to see the fandom's reaction.
Twilight becomes princess of the Crystal Empire, Lyra takes her place in the Mane 6. All according to plan.
In season 4 she should also become all crystall-y, goes mad with power, and becomes a villain the group must take down together.

This damn well better not become canon. I mean it's about as stupid as giving CMC their CM or having Scootaloo fly.
Fran would be lonely if i left her during her mangas temporary lifelong hiatus.
The problem isn't really about it happening. After all, she's just that awesome.
The problem is what the show will do after it happens. Where do things go from there? Is it even permanent or is this a Holy Grail for Super Sailor Moon ordeal?

The plushies and the banner kinda imply that it is permanent.
If it's not, however, I could see Celestia and Luna offering Twilight the chance to become a goddess like them and Twilight ultimately refusing in fear of losing her friends, thus reverting back to a plain old unicorn.
Now if you want the conspiracy theory angle, maybe Tara Strong is becoming too expensive for Hasbro and this is an attempt to write her out of the show, or at least reduce her role in it. What better way to do that than making her character become a goddess that gets whisked away to Canterlot to rule beside Celestia and Luna?

Be wary of zooming in. There are blemishes, and this WAS VERY RUSHED. For the Season 3 banner. Any future Belle Eve's or customs will be of better and greater quality.
