But how are Foxix, CHEEZMO™, Ookami-kun and other awesome ponies not in there?!
Also, you shortened Maz's name incorrectly.

I am sorry to correct you, but some people in this thread might not like being referred to as equines.

And this coming from the guy who's trying to represent your nicknames as ponies. Isn't it ironic? ;)

I'm starting to like you, Uchip.

And I was only using it instead of the word "people" like I do for everyone and anybody.

I just think the word brony is immature and unnecessary as it only self-identifies one as part of a group like the word gamer, which I also hate.

I don't think MLP:FiM would work as a bigger budget movie.

They would inevitably be tempted to mess up the style just because of having a bigger budget. Next think we know, we're staring at some 3D CG aberration.

It would allow for more happening on screen, and for a more elaborate plot
would probably be considered a musical

Thats good; I will have rather you love and tolerate me then hate me, because magic and love will reigned supreme over all!

Yeah, I drool for the plot and technical possibilities, but I fear for the style. It's just an integral part of the charm of the show and its appeal to the fans, but unless Lauren Faust is involved, I can't totally trust whoever's in charge to understand that.

I saw what they did with Winx Club, and it's not pretty (not that it was pretty before they did it, though).

I'd say the chances of it getting a direct-to-video movie at some time are about 50%, I think. On theatres? Lower than 5%.

Queue mountains of single 25 year old men lining up to see the midnight launch of what the cinema staff see to be a little girls movie on their own.

In all honesty though, I think we won't likely see a movie, unless the show reaches South Park/Spongebob levels of popularity. I'm quite concerned about the future of the show, as cartoons have a history of being diluted down over time. Take Ren & Stimpy for instance, the first two series which were developed by John K, were some of the most energetic, well animated and colourful cartoons on TV, but after numerous complaints due to the tone of the show, it got stripped back and the rest of the series pales in comparison with the first 2 series.

The fact that the show has to hit two conflicting demographics for us to consider it successful makes keeping the balance of the show extremely tricky. At the end of the day, Hasbro still has to have the TV program to sell toys, and unless they can monetize the online audience, there will be a lot of pressure to increase sales, and the only way to do that is to market differently, or to change the show.

So far as monetizing the online audience, there are several ways. They could host an official youtube channel with targeted ads, merchandise such as shirts, bags, hoodies etc. or "The Art of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic" book (I'd buy that in an instance). The thing is, this is untrodden ground for Hasbro, they deal in brick and mortar.

But the way that I see it. Hasbro has invested heavily in rebooting their franchise, hiring Lauren Faust probably wasn't cheap, and from here on out, they are most likely going to start looking at ways to start making that money back. That doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing, gaming companies invest in new IP all the time, look at Mass Effect, Gears of War, Dead Space, Assassin's Creed. All new IP where the long term aim was monetary growth with a large initial investment. Still doesn't mean the games can't be awesome.

P.S I love how the Equestrian Girls music video nods not only to Bronies but to our favourite adjective used to describe the show... AWESOME

I've been meaning to ask you for a while, but it's your tagline actually true?

Someone was distributing tags in the AnimeGAF thread, I mentioned it, my avatar was on fire at the time. Sometimes I think the tags should always link to the post that inspired it, but whatever.

They are taking their time with it, making people think that they aren't prepared in the least to deal with business opportunities in the lightning-quick age of web trends. This could be big, if they want it to... but their aversion to risk is probably paralyzing them right now.

As it is, it seems likely that by the time merchandise hits the shop shelves, the whole fever will have already cooled down, unsupported by an appropriate media blitz.

All the ads so far have been kinda dumb (It's Twalaht Sparkuhls bahloooon!), or just the standard children's toy ad level. The youtube page idea would require more people from the show in an advisory role, but those two departments are so separate that it would probably turn out badly. Marketing probably has less desire to allow creativity than those in charge of content.

If at all possible, they might be better off just doing "Equestria Girls" style promos for relevant merchandise and just sending them to Equestria Daily.

I just can't buy that, the trend has been steadily increasing over half a year, it's far from a meme, it's an actual fanbase who genuinely like the show. On the internet, a year is a LONG LONG time. All the buzz online is for the show in it's entirety, not a single clip (like the Internet is for Porn clip from Avenue Q).

The ads don't necessarily have to be for Pony Merchandise though, youTube has a bunch of ways to target ads at specific demographics. Sure they can pedal the toys to people who have been watching Justin Beiber and Friday, but advertisements for Dr. Pepper, Doritos and Old Spice would be okay for the internet crowd with banner ads for merchandise and HD versions. The toy ads are mainly for kids whose parents use the TV as a babysitter.

Avenue Q is brilliant. Anyone who has the chance to go see it and doesn't is really missing out.

I know, I saw it on Tuesday :D

But the fact remains, it wasn't the musical that got the attention from "Internet is for Porn" viral, it was the song itself. I'm saying the the attention MLP is getting is for the show itself and how awesome it is.

I wouldn't be surprised if they time it so that merchandise hits the same time that season 2 starts, when the fever starts again/gets even bigger.

I'd argue that the musical arguably got more popular because the Internet is for Porn went viral. Much like MLP, the core product was already very good, but because a single element became a meme and gained mass exposure, popularity and attention skyrocketed.

No single element of MLP has gone massively viral. That's what I'm saying, the only thing that is viral is the entire product. There is not one stand out scene, or character that has transcended the show itself.

Edit: Here, have a giant Fluttershy Clicky Click. Just don't embed it in a thread.

Thanks for the shout-out, even though you missed out one letter but its not a huge problem anyways.

Or in another way, elements of it continually go viral and draw new individuals into the main herd, in the same way that individual songs of Avenue Q went viral and drew in more audience members. It's also far easier for MLP to be mashed up or used in viral format, so you have to take that into consideration as well.

It's really more the premise of MLP - ponies? On the internet? - that is being used as the memetic element, whereas Avenue Q's songs lend themselves to more topic-based memes (internet porn, it's okay if you're gay, sucks to be me, everyone's racist etc). It is, after all, a musical.

This is a great idea, but I don't see Hasbro as being that savvy.

Near the end of the commercial, all I could imagine was some over-enthusiastic brony fan on a Rainbow Dash shirt shouting "BEST! PONY RIDE! EVER!"
WARNING THIS VIDEO GETS REALLY LOUD Speaking of brony fan reactions to toys.

So this is what all the pony obsession came from. I was going to ask, what is up with all of the My Little Pony avatars, but I had no idea that it actually was the "My Little Pony". I remember that cartoon from a long time ago. Could Jem and the Holograms make a comeback also? :p

Yes. It's a reason why The Hub just started re-airing Jem and it's godlike animation.
