"My Xbox 360 Died and I Lived to tell the story" Official Thread

My 360 died from the RROD today, so I went to their support section of their site to find a way to have the coffin sent to me. After putting in my information, it said that my Xbox was out of warranty. What? I thought Microsoft instituted a 3-year warranty plan for all 360s?

It always says that unless your 360 is under 1 year old. You can still process a RRoD up to three years after your purchase date.

Mine just cam back from service not 10 minutes ago by UPS. I've had it since launch. It went red ring about 6 weeks ago. I sent it out, got it back and they fucked up the video card while they were repairing it. The unit would only display the red and green channels. Sent it back and now it's been returned...again.

Got my 360 back on Monday. Rep had said it would be a new one, and the manufacture date turned out to be June 2008. They also sent me a new power brick. It doesn't have the lower watt rating, but I'm hoping this new one is a falcon. Also, my original 360 was non hdmi and they sent me back a non hdmi.

I really hope this new one lasts longer. Total turnaround time was 7 days (they did FedEx overnight shipping both ways for me).

I honestly didn't think this would happen to me because I take really good care of my systems. I just feel like selling off all my games and heading over to the Sony camp.

My year old elite died last night while trying to play Rock Band 2. This sucks, haven't had Rock Band 2 for a week.

if you complain or tell the CS rep that you have no access to a printer they will send you a box.
When I called, the guy actually asked me if I wanted to use my own box or have them send me one. My brother too. You mean there are some people not even getting the option?

My second 360 has just died, 1 light only unfortunately.

If I do send it in for repairs, will I get the same one back or a refurb? I'm tempted to just buy a brand new arcade.

If the HDDVD drives dies while watching a film would the 360 show the RROD?
Was watchig a film yesterday and the 360 froze lots of artifats over the screen. restarted 360 and was fine for rest of the day, but today i was watching another film and got the RROD, now the HDDVD drive wont show up on the 360 dashboard, hell i cant even get the pad to synch while the HDDVD drive is plugged into the USB connections... 360 seems to be going fine right now, downloading a demo to give it a little workout (dont want to play one of my games, jsut incase lol)

My 5th 360 just RROD'd, what are the chances of them sending me an HDMI capable system? Also, could they transfer my licenses across all my past systems? I never recovered the DLC I got on my first two machines.

They've stated that the HDDVD software pushes the 360 harder than any game would so my guess is your machine is on the way out and while it seems like it's working (when you're not gaming or watching HDdvds) its likely dying or on it's last legs.
Might as well call it in if you don't have a store replacement warranty.

I would call in and demand a new system. Anything > 2 failed refurbished 360s should be given a new machine IMO.
If they don't give you a new one I'd ebay the fixed one they send back and buy a new arcade.

So I should specifically bitch for a new one to customer service? When my last one died, the outsourced CSR's first dumb self-diagnostic pissed me off and I immediately asked for a "manager" and after a half hour wait got a man who sent me the box in 5 minutes. The time before that I got a choice between 3 shitty free games. I bet I could garner enough sympathy to just outright bitch for a new HDMI box... with a free Elite HD... and the choice between 3 GOOD games.

Who is *they* and do you have a source? That sounds a little ludicrous to me...

Decoding 1080P video ain't an easy task, plus it uses some ATI software to make the IQ even better. It's like the PS3... it hits 100% when playing a BluRay, same goes with the 360 with HD DVDs.

My copy of NHL 09 comes up with the message 'The disc is unreadble' when I try to load a game from the main menu. I've given the disc a clean and it still happens, it was fine when I was playing it last week.

Decoding all that data takes a lot of processing power. The source was one of the developers of the HDDVD playback module, I forget what forum it was on (AVS forum likely).
Ever tried playing a BD or HDDVD on your PC, it brings a lot of machines to their knees.

Well, you can add me to the list. The 360 I borrowed from my friend 8 months ago (and which he bought around 2 years ago, and was made back in 2005) just gave up and RROD'ed on me. My original 360, which I bought back in May of 2006 (manufactured in 2005) lasted for 17 months, right around the time Halo 3 hit.

Quick question, I have a Falcon, but recently I am noticing a trend whenever I start the 360 cold. These days have been very cool here, and it's when I am seeing them.

I noticed that there are horizontal lines on blacks on my 360--kind of looks like a window screen pattern. They're tough to see, unless you get up a bit close, but they're definitely there. The Wii input doesn't do this. If the image is quite bright you can see them, but down the road they disappear. There was one instance when playing SC4 where the lines stayed and the game froze... marks the first time the Falcon has ever crashed on me.

Also, as a related note, there have been two times when I put a game, the system was booting but then went to the dashboard and showed me "Open Tray" when there was in fact a game. Just open and close tray and the game booted. No DRE's ever though.

Don't fail me my Falcon :lol

so after getting the red ring and the console not working for a month, now the console is working(after a very short stint with a towel over it) and has been working for a few days now. I made a thread about this last week. I have my box sitting here to ship to ms but I really think they are going to tell me there is nothing wrong with it.

They know the 3 RROD happens intermittently on some systems.

I got the RROD last week and ordered a coffin and shipped it off yesterday. It was a falcon that has HDMI, is it a game of chance on whether or not I'll get another HDMI-capable system back?

You will get another HDMI-capable system back. Whether it happens to be a Falcon or not, well... :D

Good luck with that. :lol

(Although to be fair, the comp game selection is spectacularly lacking at the moment.)

Damn, my xbox just rrod today. I thought it would never happen to me!

I did the towel trick and now it's back alive. We'll see how long it'll last before I snap and decide to buy another one...

I sold my 360 to help fund a trip I was going on and because the warranty had expired. I had gone through 3 or 4 consoles before then and I'm a fool for even considering one again. How's the reliability of 360s these days? I still have some of my games so I don't see why not if they've improved the hardware.

You should wait for the Jasper units. If you can't wait well... Falcon's have a better reliability ratio (there's a spreadsheet of it in this thread somewhere).

Sorry but :lol
To me it sounds like the never ending story.
Believe!

Well, I've had a good run. Had my UK PAL 360 since launch and it finally conked out while playing Soul Calibur 4 :(

Any tips on dealing with customer service? I've heard countless horror stories :(

Should I apply for a repair on their site or should I phone them up? Any way to ensure that I get a new model or anything else nice? Also what should I do in terms of my HDD (It's a core console with a seperate HDD) XBLA/DLC purchases and gamertags?

EDIT: Well I've phoned them, courier is coming in the next 3-5 working days. Doesn't seem too bad so far. Also the 3 red lights have gone away for now (Though they'll probably come back I'm sure)

The current models are about on par with the other consoles. Probably no reason to wait to buy one considering all the deals going on now (at least where I live, 2 decent games 'gears+tfu' packed in for free)

Okay, I returned my Xbox today.. had 3 flashing red lights, and I heard a loose part inside the box as well... I returned it, kept my HDD, logge dinto live.. my acocunt was still there... but my Gamescore is toast, and my level 20 Castle Crasher is not a level 1.. What happened? What didn't I do right? Can I get my data back? ARGH!

Ahhh! My 360 just died.Hopefully my warranty is still good at Gamestop. It should be considering I renewed it last October but I dont have a receipt so im hoping they have all that info in their computers.

Hm

My third 360 died earlier in the week. Started off getting frequent DRE's, then the disc tray decided it didn't want to come out and more, and finally my 360 freezes 5 minutes in no matter what.

No three red lights, though, and 1 year general hardware warranty is done too.

Great, why won't this damn this just give me those red lights already.

Patience, I thought the same, I prayed to the RROd Gods, and wouldn't you know it, they blessed me.

Every X360 sounds as it has a loose part inside... It's the position (H/V) sensor.

About your gamescore: just recover your gamertag.

Just call MS and tell them you got the lights. It's enough for them. They know the lights don't always appear, so they won't check for them.

Hope it fully dies by Wednesday. That's when I get my coffin.

Will they complain about my disc tray not wanting to come out? Figured an RRoD would supersede that.

Anyone know if there'll be an update to the master index 2 pages back that has the Falcon/Xenon fail rates, and other stats?
I'm considering it for the one year anniversary of the falcon. It's a real pain to keep updated though.
