My launch 360, the only one I've ever owned, finally passed away this afternoon. Time of death: 5:27 PM EST.
I went to play some MW2 the other day and it froze around five minutes into my first game. Rebooted, got into another game, and it froze within seconds. Next reboot, got three red lights. I waited a few minutes, and started it up again, and was able to play Peggle for about a half-hour with no problems. At that point, I had to go out, so I figured I'd just give it a try again later. Just a while ago, I turned it on to see what it was gonna do this time around, and I couldn't even get to the dashboard without a freeze. After five lock-ups at the Xbox splash screen, it red-ringed again. Dead, for sure.
The Xball even SHATTERED!
It sucks, and it's the only video game hardware that's ever died on me, but I got almost four-and-a-half years out of the thing a LOT more than most people with launch units. I'm not really surprised it chose to die now, as it got the most use of its life in the last few months due to MW2. I don't see any point in trying to get it repaired. I'll just take my chances with a Jasper (I want the HDMI output anyway).
It sucks that I'm so pathetically broke right now, otherwise I'd go out and buy an Arcade unit today. Gonna miss having that platinum disc drive swagger, though.
