"My Xbox 360 Died and I Lived to tell the story" Official Thread

Jack Scofield said:
My 360 died from the RROD today, so I went to their support section of their site to find a way to have the coffin sent to me. After putting in my information, it said that my Xbox was out of warranty. What? I thought Microsoft instituted a 3-year warranty plan for all 360s?

Read the rest of the page is probably all you need to do. Your 360 most likely is out of warranty but the RROD warranty is separate.

Mine just died last weekend after about 2.5 years of no issues, no freezing issues leading up to it, very sad. I ordered the box online right when it happened but it never showed, they called me to find out if i got it or not and I told them no and I didn't even get a confirmation email. For whatever reason they decided to take me through all the steps to see if it was broken again and waste my time, and said they would send me the box, but once again no confirmation email. I've verified both my address and email address with them, what the hell is the deal here?

So we're supposed to get a confirmation email about them sending the box to us? I ordered mine a few days ago and im just curious about how this process works exactly.

# 2 just RROD this evening. I was told I would be emailed the postage paid shipping label and would need to provide my own box. That really sucks.

Don't they just email you the label so you can print it?

Fuck you microsoft you cum guzzling pussy queefs.
I have bought two different 360's and both are absolute fucking garbage because you guys suck horse balls at making reliable hardware. One of my consoles gets some "E63" error half the times I start it and the other has such a fucked up disc drive that I am required to spin the disc manually upon startup, and even then I will get unreadable discs 2 minutes into play time.
Your company can go suck a throbbing veiny cock, and I hope you fucking choke on it.

Got my 3rd RRoD yesterday. Actually kind of glad since the dvd drive was throwing up DRE errors on a regular basis.

I live in the UK so do I need to provide my own coffin or does MS provide one?

ps1 flashbacks, oh yea and I take it you dont like MS much right.

Anyone here had any luck sending in their 360 without an RRoD and no general hardware warranty but reported it as such?

My 360 is clearly in the verge of RRoD'ing, what with freezing 2-5 minutes of boot up, but still no three red lights. I'm getting my coffin either tomorrow or Wednesday. D:

so today my 360 cant find any profiles.

recently its been having problems freezing during start up or at the dash soon after start up.

its frozen a couple times during loading of a game. usually a few restarts will do the trick and its good for the rest of the night.

today it wont find any profiles after many restarts and im Memory it shows the HDD is not formatted.

120GB on the Elite btw.

EDIT: got it to work. took the HDD off and powered up. no HDD was shown. deleted all files from memory on the HD-DVD drive. replaced HDD and powered up and profiles are back.

Ok so my 360 got the E74 error again last night. Does anyone know how well those fixes on Youtube work? I don't exactly feel like shooting hot air into my 360 every time I want to play a game.

Thought I'd post in here rather than start a worthless thread, but I bought an Arcade with a manufacture date of August 13 2008 (In Australia) and attached a 120GB HDD to it.

Anyone know if this is a falcon or Jasper? The power brick is 175 or 173W and I gotta say, when there's no disc in the system it's pretty much as silent as the Wii.

Keep in mind, I also have a Halo 3 Zephyr and that was tough as nails, but I've packed it away.

So any Aussies, go go go for Arcades and new 60GB Pro, they are pretty damn good.

According to the Xbox 360 DVD Drive Database, it appears Xbox 360s outfitted with the much-anticipated Jasper chipset have finally started showing up in stores and at online retailers.

The key things to look for when buying a new Xbox 360 with the Jasper chipset is a manufacturing date (MFR) as early as 2008-08-06, Lot 8031 and up, and Team CSON.

So who knows, you might have snagged one

My second 360 died last night and this time it was the dvd drive in my Elite. I have had the console for 17 months (which is how long my launch 360 lasted). I get the lovely grinding noise that will scratch a disc and the disc tray on screen states the disc is unplayable, gee I wonder why when the drive is tearing the disc to shreds. I have a Wal-Mart service plan, so we'll see how that works. They want everything so they can try to repair it, so I'll throw on an old 20GB drive and hope they don't notice because there is no way I am giving up my 120GB with all of my data. If they can't repair it then they will give me a gift card to buy another. Sounds like a hassle, maybe I should just red ring it.

So just how large of a power bill am I looking at if I just leave my 360 on. It seems like leaving my 360 on is the only way to prevent the E 74 errors that I've been getting. I've been considering buying an Arcade for $199 and just strapping on my 120 GB HDD but I'd feel like I was rewarding MS for their shoddy work.

Last night while watching a DVD on the my most recent 360 (I think the manufacturing date is from this year), it would start to pause or skip, and give me an "Attempting to Read Media" message.

Every single fucking 360 I've had has given me disc read errors of some kind, I've never had an RROD, but christ almighty the DVD drives in these things suck so much. I haven't had an error while playing a game yet, but I guess it's coming. I really didn't want to send this fucking thing in this month, what with Fable 2, Fallout 3, and Dead Space coming out.

Also, and this one is new to me, my Wireless controller can't keep a connection to save its fucking life. I know its the battery pack, because everytime it goes to rumble it turns off. This is with a play and charge kit attached (fully charged). I tried to play some Lego Batman yesterday afternoon, and I couldn't get thru 5 seconds of a stage before the damn thing would shut off.

I hate Microsoft's hardware so fucking much.

Fuck!! RR on Saturday! Called Saturday was told I would be emailed a return label in 24-48hrs. Wednesday rolls along no Email. Called Wednesday night complained guaranteed a new E mail. It's Friday no fucking E mail.

Before I call back I need you guys to help me. Who do I talk to and what do I demand?

I'd ask for a box instead of a label. Also, sounds like something is going wrong in the email chain somewhere... I can't see why they wouldn't have mailed you by now.

Arcade, Falcon chipset purchased January 2008, died today October 3rd 2008 with 3 red lights.

Might have something to do with the latest update, might be optional update i installed earlier for AAC and MPEG4. Either way, I take it back to the store and get £200 store credit, and only £99 of that will be used for the new one :P

This time I am actually happy that Ms still can't make reliable hardware. Hopefully my new one will be a Jasper and put an end to all this bullshit.

I sent my 360 away in the coffin not too long ago and it was delivered back to them a few days ago. When I go to xbox.com/support and check on the repair status, its still on Step 2 aka they havent received my Console yet. Im alittle confused. Hopefully they just didnt update the status yet or something.

doesn't the lemon law apply to the xbox 360? They want me to pay 100 dollars. This will be my 8th xbox to have been busted.

8th? Fuck. I'm considering bailing out now that my Elite Falcon is suffering from E74.

E74 can go to hell. Lost my Launch Premium to that 2 years to the day. I refuse to accept that I shouldn't be compensated for that considering all the other faults they've acknowledged, despite being told they're unrelated.

Might interest you... based on the stats I collect here at GAF for every 100 RRoD failures there are 9 other red light failures on average (That covers all of them though, not just E74).

Well MS have officially fucked me in the ass.
I bought a Premium 360 at launch, it worked fine, but I traded it in a year ago and upgraded to an Elite (because I like black stuff :lol) That Elite worked fine for just over a year then completely out of the blue, it started freezing and now it won't play any game without freezing up.
I rang MS expecting them to fix my console for free, they fix the RROD for free right? Well apparently they won't fix my Elite for free because mine isn't a common problem and they are instead going to be very kind and give me a nice hard fucking from behind, with a huge metal rod, in my poor sore anus. Translation: they're gonna charge me £60 or $120 to fix their lousy hardware! Obviously I kicked up a fuss, obviously I swore down the phone at them, and told them that I'll never buy another MS product again, but it made no difference.
So that's it, I'm a man of my word, MS can go fuck themselves. I will never buy another MS games console or product again-this pains me especially because I love Gears of War. Anyway I've got this useless lump of a 360 in front of me and I'm thinking I should try and induce the RROD on it so that I can get it fixed for free and then at least be able to make some money on selling it.
Is there an easy way to get this baby glowing red?

Edit:
OMG it's a miracle! I typed out that post, tried my 360 one last time, and saw those glorious 3 flashing red lights! Now they have to fix it for free. NutJobJim escapes anal rape once again!!!!

I did the same thing, but the guy gave me my repair for free. Just got it back, actually. It's weird, since I bitched to talk to a supervisor, they're pretty awesome about it. The guy called me the other day saying it'd be delivered within a day or two. He also said he's going to give me a few days to play test it then he's calling me again to make sure everything is working.

When I got RROD they pretty much just threw the box at me.

My xbox died months ago trying to decide if I should get it fixed or buy a new arcade version. Was going to repair but was told it only comes with a 90-day warranty.

Sonofabitch!

My undead zombie launch box finally died for real this time - RROD.

So many memories, so many false alarms, good times buddy, good times.

11/22/05 to 10/05/08

RIP

Dammit!

Can't register the 360 on the repair site - getting an error message back so I have to call. Is this because I bought the box in the US at launch but now live in Canada? Am I screwed?

I could use a little advice, my Xbox recently got the E74 error, and apparently my warranty is 8 days overdue. I called Xbox support and climbed the chain of command, but even the highest guy I could talk to would not repair my Xbox for free. I'm curious if any of you have run into a similar situation, and what you did.

I shot hot air into my 360 with a hair dryer for a few minutes and it started to work. Its been off for a few days now so I'll probably have to do it again in order to get it to work.

90 days for the usual problems (dvd drive video card) but I think it's still 3 (years) from day of receipt of the "new" unit. Only evidence I have is that one of the refurbs that were sent to me died well after the 90 day mark, around 6 months actually and it got replaced by MS

As mentioned in this topic, my 360 got a crazy green checkerboard grid thing. I bought a $5 coffin at the UPS store and sent it out today. Let's see how long it takes.

Just tell them you got RROD, even if you didn't get it. They will fix anyway.

This worked for a couple of my friends a little over a year ago, but I hear they are a bit more cautious about that nowadays.

Has anyone tried sending a 360 in this manner recently? (past few months)

I've had 1 RRoD on a 2006 after almost exactly 1 year. My refurb is still kicking it, but I haven't used it much lately, and I wouldn't be surprised if it died during this November :lol

Just turned on my console, got an e-74 going. Tried switching from HDMI back to VGA, no luck. Guess I'll try component in the morning. Any other suggestions? (Right as I have 2 days off too...)

BTW:
Falcon purchased mid-December 2007

I'm sure it's not true, but I swaer sometimes I look at all these posts of dying 360s and I reckon more than half are made up.

I've had 4 and only ONE of those died, which was the launch one after 12 hours.

I know over a dozen people with 360s and ONE of those had again, a launch unit die.

I don't know what the hell you guys are doing to your 360s for them to be dying so often.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE FUCKING KIDDING ME!! I AM SO FUCKING PISSED OFF.

Ok. So i just got my 360 back after a month of it being in the shop. I just JUST opened the box, plugged it in, and turned it on. Now i am getting an Error 68 message and one red light. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.

I'm just saying. Falcons, Zephyrs ver 2 and Jaspers are in the channel now, so it seems strange that we're supposedly seeing so many break down.

I have the Halo Edition which is the 2nd heat sink Zephyr, and it's fucken tough as nails.

Even my launch unit would probably still be alive if I hadn't kept it in such a small space (of course launch day I wasn't to know about the 360s problems).

It just seems a little suspect to me that's all.

Mine is in a pretty open and well ventilated area. The build quality is just a piece of trash.
