I decided to buy a 360 for Fable 2. My decision as to where to buy the system came down to who had the cheapest/best warranty.
I figured Walmart was the winner saying they had a 2 year warranty for $20. I went over there yesterday and asked for more information about what that warranty entails. He informs me that it is an extension to the Microsoft warranty and I would deal with Microsoft and not Walmart if my system red-rings.
Im a little dissapointed by that so I go to best buy - surely their $45 2 year "Geek Squad Black Tie" warranty will cover me in the case of a RROD.
I ask the Best Buy employee "Ok, if I buy my 360 here and it red rings on me in say a year - if I bring it back can I leave with a new 360 that day?"
Best Buy employee: "Uh...im actually not sure let me check" *runs off - comes back* "Ok we used to do that but now what we do is if you have a defective system we will give you a refurbished on that same day."
What a bunch of BS. I tell him "I would gladly pay the extra money to have a good warranty but I dont want a refurb I want a new one if mine breaks."
He says "Yeah I dont get it either. I think its Microsofts new policy or something"
How bad is it, honestly, when a console is so defective that pretty much all electronic stores have to change their policies to give you a "refurbished" product in the case of your new product breaking?
Doesn't make any sense.
