But have you tried them out yet? You might like them!
Even if the concept doesn't interest you, you may realize that concept is worthless once you watch these great shows. It's all about the execution.
That's not really what moe is.
Not the one you've suggested, no. But I feel my reservations are still valid. I have yet to find one like them where it hold my attention. So many times I just lose interest if they're is nothing happening story wise. Yes, I get that you usually use the first episode to establish characters and setting, but it's usually people just talking to each other and act rather ridiculous for little reason. I don't find that good for watching.
Well, you can watch episode 1 of Hanasaku Iroha for free if you want to give it a shot. Or not, it's up to you. But there's definitely a variety of shows with appeal to the "moe" crowd and some of them are better than others.
But none of them interest me, even in the slightest.
It's like all my friends who enjoy Skrillix:
Me: "I enjoy and I'm open about a lot of music, really, I am! My musical tastes are very eclectic. But honestly, 99% of dubstep is not good."
Them: "Yeah...but Skrillix is not like them, he's better!"
Me: "Fine, I'll try it...." *** "Nope. Did not enjoy."
Yes. I just compared moe to dubstep. What now?
Well I assumed he cared more about characterization and story. But yes, if you're all about pretty animation, K-on and Idolmaster are the way to go.
Yes, I do. I'm also one of those gamers that value story and gameplay over graphics. So shoot me.
This is the equivalent of being like, "Wow, movies are really bad, what's the most popular movie out there for me to see if movies are good? Avatar? Hey I watched that and I didn't enjoy it at all. I guess movies do suck."But none of them interest me, even in the slightest.

Have you seen Steins;Gate? I consider myself to be pretty jaded as far as anime goes, having burned out on it maybe 8 years ago or so, but that was a recent series that I really enjoyed.
moe is not a catch all term for characters you dislike.Lol, I was being facetious dude. Anyhow, true, the characters in KS do share some moe-esque traits, but I associate moe characters with being really flat archetypes that possess little depth nor undergo much development, which isn't the case for the cast of KS. KS is more similar to Neon Genesis than say.. K-On.
That too. It appeals to males and females of various ages and even airs on Disney Channel Japan. What the hell is with all the K-On hate? Get this right, guys. K-On as an anime property has made over 50 billion yen in merchandising. The otaku "waifu" crowd cannot possibly support something as big as that so it stands to reason that it has mainstream appeal. Reducing it to something only creepy otaku buy is factually wrong.

Then again people like Mortrialus and friends probably get their news of the anime world from sankaku and 4chan, so it's not like they're too concerned with facts anyways.
I have no idea what this is supposed to mean beyond underlining an affinity to 4chan and your disinterest in approaching this with any intent to budge from your viewpoint, in spite of the fact you keep trying to peddle this image of yourself as an "open" person.Implying popularity is a genre.
You are pretty much casting uninformed aspersions on a subject you don't have a lot of familiarity with. It is not even remotely reflective of what most people considered their top shows this year, or really the releases of the year in general. We could go into how much old anime there is that is "school life shows with "cute" female casts", but this isn't really the place for it, and I don't exactly feel like it is a discussion that would result in anything.FelixOrion said:All I see are school life shows with "cute" female casts and I just feel...disappointed.
My post was not directed towards you.I never said it didn't, I just enjoy a little more action then what K-ON and the like have to give. Again, it's like my music. I'm very open, but I guess what I enjoy the most is metal, especially prog-metal and post-metal. Not everyone likes it, I know that. But I have my reasons for it. Same reasons why I try to avoid shows like K-ON. If that makes sense.

I'm trying to say that sampling the most popular thing a genre has to offer isn't a great measure of its worth. Do you think that people who actually like dubstep listen to Skrillex? There's a lot of variety in the anime that came out last year. To sum up all recent anime as this:

So how about Evangelion, guys? That show's pretty alright.
I still want to know what problems it shares with Inception besides lack of [redacted].
I really don't want to get into a discussion of what moe is or isn't after witnessing the disintegration of this thread for the last page :l feel free to pm me if you want to educate me however.
FelixOrion, watch Tiger & Bunny. It has mainstream appeal and stars people in their mid 20s-30s. No school girls (well one, but she's the main character's daughter).
If I had seen that name come up on a list, I would've just passed over it. The name makes it honestly sounds like it'd be a "Panty & Stocking" spin-off. Oh god...
But, it looks possibly appealing. Thanks.
moe is not a catch all term for characters you dislike.
Nah, I don't either. Let's just say it's a really broad term that doesn't exactly have an agreed on definition. Cute, something you want to protect, etc. Could be those and much more, but not necessarily something that implies depth or lack of it.
I would totally watch an Evangelion reboot where Shinji kicks ass, takes names and gets girls.
Actually they were psychological problems he developed from directing Nadia. lolI would totally watch an Evangelion reboot where Shinji kicks ass, takes names and gets girls. Just make him a likable protagonist. That's all the series needed. I went in hoping for robots battling supernatural beings with Judeo-Christian imagery. I didn't need a series where the show creator rehashes his psychological problems that resulted from never getting a date in high school. There are therapists who get paid to deal with those issues.

The island arc sucked because he didn't direct it, it was some random Gainax dude. He hated working on it because of how little control he had. That's why he refused to do the island episodes iirc, he didn't want to drag out the show too long but the people funding it wanted more episodes or something. Don't quote me on that though.Which is why the entire island arc of that show sucked, the ending was good though. I would recommend that series to anyone. Just watched the ending today, now recommend me another of Anno's works.
Well, this [your reading of /m/] explains your posts.Okay, who posted this in /m/?![]()

Re: Cutie Honey is alrightish.Already watch Gunbuster, try another one. I actually thought Gunbuster was alright, but it had its moments and the characters were likeable enough.

Grab the Platinum boxset as it has the best image quality currently available. And I find it difficult to believe that EoE is difficult to find, it was licensed by Manga and printed to infinity, can't see how there could possibly be a deficiency on the market given how profoundly popular the series is.What's the best way to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion?
I know there are some box-sets available, but the movie in particular, End of Evangelion, seems like it's down right non-existent, unless you're willing to pay big bucks.
