1. In an alternate scenario some of the remaining 78% would buy the game on PC.
2. The PC gaming player base is the largest by far. Getting PC gamers more interested in your games gets you much more bang for your buck, especially long term, compared to signing anti-consumer exclusivity deals with Sony.
1. We are talking explicitly about your false statement "(straight) 22% increase in sales if game out on PC". Alternative scenario when game launch on PC only is a massive loss as there is no way 22% will grow to 100%
2. PC gaming player base are mostly f2p and very cheap stuff. It's not a core console projects "70$" target audience. Sales split 22%/78% already telling a story, this "huge player base" in equal opportunity buys 3.5 times less copies. Pure numbers not always relevant, effective demand (i.e. number of people who actually buy at given price point) also plays important role.
3. Financially it makes a perfect sense to omit 20% sales to PC market immediately and delay it for 1-2 years on exclusivity deal. Company saves costs, get benefits from platform holder and loose almost nothing as it will get tail sales on PC anyway.
This is why it was a practice with long history.

Yeah, but sony makes close to 30 billion a year from PlayStation, 200mil loss is part of the risk but i dont think it hurts them as much as we think, thats a necessary risk
Excuse me, say what? Concord was a necessary risk? Yikes, is that what the fly on the inside of the window at Sony’s boardroom is telling themselves?

Oof.

ShiftUp tried it with Stellar Blade, and they're not doing it again.

And what exactly does this prove other than Sony and shiftup didn't reach any agreement for their future game? Or perhaps Sony didn't even approach them with any deal. Many different possibilities.

The game hasn't even released on PC but already assuming it's going to be a big seller.

And unlike Sony and Epic Games, Gabe doesn’t have to pay the publisher for them.
Is this supposed to be some kind of flex? Lol. Plenty of third party PS exclusives throughout the years that Sony didn't pay for but doesn't stop you guys from pushing secret money hat conspiracies.

Ooooh. That’s what you meant, eh? That’s an interesting take. So basically, “you win some, you lose some”. Lots of not winning for them lately! Helldivers II has been a rare bright spot for them in the last few years. And that wasn’t even known or intentioned to have the impact it had, it was just as surprising to PS as it was to any of us.

Sony's exclusives has often birthed genres altogether, the most relevant example would be Demon's Souls and the Souls-likes genre, no other publisher would dare take a risk like that. But yeah, ignore the fact that Yakuza bombed so hard on the WiiU sega thought the franchise was done for, until sony funded the translation cost of Yakuza 5

We know nothing about it. What it'll be, what parties involved (maybe MS preemptive paid some for it not be PS exclusive), what markets it's for (targeting global is one thing, targeting SK/China is another).
It might as well be NIKKE2 (you do remember that ShiftUP is a gacha games company first and foremost?), this time AAA gacha game - all of them multiplatform (not on switch and xbox though).

Interesting example to choose, since Demon’s Souls was entirely made at FromSoftware, and not internally at PlayStation. They essentially just published it. And it was mostly because of the incredible unpopularity of Xbox in Japan at that time. There would’ve been no point in bringing it any other platform, as it certainly wouldn’t have run on the Wii.

Is this the lie you have to tell yourself to feel better?

And getting published only in Japan was already a perilous task for it. It was a gem in a very rough stone.
It's not like publishers get just any game, it's still require money to publish and game should be reasonably popular to offset publishing costs, specially in PS3 era when physical (and all the hurdles associated with it) were dominant way of distribution w.

There’s been lots of winning at PlayStation lately? I must just be neglecting things. 🤷‍♂️

You are.

- PS Portal has sold at least 560K in America alone in 10 months. Steam Deck sold 1 million (world-wide) in 8 months.
- PS Portal is the best selling (revenue wise) accessory of 2024.
- HellDivers 2 is a top 3 selling game of the year
- AstroBot is a GOTY contender
- PS5 is projected to sell 3 times more than Xbox Series consoles in 2024.
- Many 2nd and 3rd party console exclusives that have been great (FF7: Rebirth, Black Myth Wukong, Rise of the Ronin, Silent Hill 2: Remake, and Steller Blade)
