Well, Sasuke also has to kill him to prevent him from interfering with his plan. It's not like Sasuke would have free reign to do as he pleases if he let Naruto go, like killing the 5 Kages and whatnot.

That's not the reason Sasuke has given. He plans to stay in the shadows - there's no reason why he can't simply avoid Naruto like he'd be avoiding the ENTIRE SHINOBI WORLD.
To summarize what I'm going say in list form:
Sasuke literally wants to become Itachi, except for 2 things:
1. He plans to do what Itachi couldn't - kill the person most important to him and become truly alone.
2. Itachi was concerned with protecting the Hidden Leaf. Sasuke is concerned with protecting the entire shinobi world.
The reason Sasuke has given for killing Naruto is because he has to be completely alone in order to do what needs to be done. He has to do what Itachi couldn't do - sever all of his bonds with others. Itachi couldn't bring himself to kill the one person most important to him - that not only ended up being his downfall, but it jeopardized the existence of the very thing he was trying to protect (the Hidden Leaf Village) when Sasuke began plotting to destroy the village.
If Sasuke couldn't bring himself to kill Naruto, then would he be able to act against Naruto if, say, Naruto was manipulated to lead a Leaf attack on the Stone village in the future? Would he be able to set aside his feelings and rule from the shadows in a way that wasn't inherently biased towards the leaf, which Naruto held so dearly? Probably not - and this would lead to a disparity in power, causing distrust and resentment between the leaf and the rest of the shinobi world, and eventually would spill over into conflict, ruining the entire mission (to protect the world).

Oh, I just realized Naruto is probably going to grab Sasuke's Chidori so their palms touch and the tsukuyomi is released. Or am I mistaking which hands their special signs are on?
As for Sasuke's motivation, you're thinking too far ahead. How do they resolve the fact Sasuke wants to kill the 5 kage without fighting? Or that Naruto won't let Sasuke walk away again and would try to drag him back to the leaf by force even if Sasuke said "whatever I'm leaving"?
And I think his explanation was sufficiently vague that what it means in practice is unknown. Whether he's a Danzo or Itachi, presumably he would find himself in confrontations eventually, and Naruto would presumably be spending his every waking moment trying to track him down. Eventually they would have to fight again no matter what. Wanting to kill the bond is not the only reason Sasuke might want Naruto dead.

After double checking the runes are definitely on Sasuke's left arm and Naruto's right (which is bandaged in the Last). I'm sure this was brought up earlier I just never noticed or made the connection until now.

Today's chapter was pretty awesome, loved the close combat. Kishi can pull of some pretty awesome stuff. Gonna wait for a better translation and read it again. Oh and I honestly want Sasuke to win but I think that's a clone he's going to strike.

Even if we didn't know that won't be happening, I'd say that ending the chapter BEFORE the strike guarantees that it'll be stopped/avoided/somethinged. Woulda ended with it piercing him, otherwise.

Why are people forgetting what Naruto has been bleating out for years?
He's not going to kill The Sauce, he will do everything in his power to save him. If that means dying, then so be it (but he won't die, it's just to show his resolve in trying to save The Sauce). He's not going to pull a Hashirama and stab him from behind.
It's not going to happen. He'll fight him head on and continue to do so until he forces The Sauce to abandon his hate. It's the Neji fight redux.
Naruto really looked cool as shit this chapter.

This. You need a sizable portion of chakra to draw in natural energy. Naruto spent the vast majority of it in the earlier clash against Indra's Arrow.

This is why the fight makes little sense. Hagoromo couldn't beat Kaguya on his own, but naruto seemed to be handling her well. Which suggests that he was more powerful than hthe sage. And last chapter Kurama was like "This isn't good. It's like we're up against the old man himself"
Also the (full?) power of the 9 tailed beasts including half of Kuruma and Susanno was destroyed in one hit by the other half of Kuruma and sage mode...

He didn't actually say that Sasuke was on Hagoromo's level of power, it was just the way he was able to skillfully manipulate the Bijū's chakra.

This chapter confirms my thoughts: Naruto can finally form a rasengan without his clones. In the past, he required the Kyuubi chakra to do it, but during the fight Obito taunted him, he made one without a clone using only sage mode. And now, we see Naruto forming one on his own, no clone in sight. I guess the finally mastered it.

Didn't the nine-tails just say he got done building up natural chakra? Kind of confused if that is what Sasuke was absorbing.
Yeah, it was so ridiculous because if the strikes from the nine-tails were just throwing Pain around like a rag doll with no other effect, why would Naruto's strikes one-shot Pain? How would a simple rasengan do it?
Uh, who cares? There is not some anti-Sakura conspiracy going on here. Do you think the guys there sit down and go "Well shit, Kishi has made Sakura look too good in the concept art! Better make our main girl HINATA take some of her sex appeal to make sure Naruto ends up with HER"?
