In this RAW from 2002, GM Ric Flair is apologizing to the crowd for opening the show and taking time away from the talent.

How times have changed.

Did any of you read the transcript of Disco Inferno's interview on Russo's podcast? Disco is a fucking Dicko. Fuck that guy.

The real main event and everyone knows it was Warrior v. Macho Man.

Even that, a really great early 1990's match, is marred by the booking. Macho hits him with his finisher five times and he doesn't go down. Even Rock and Austin would have been embarrassed by that!

is it still 24/7 rules? loved when guys would get pinned in hotels and such. all those crash holly videos were the best

Yep. Bubba was pinned by Raven and lost the title, then Tommy Dreamer came out and pinned him for the title, then Steven Richards pinned him for the title, then Bubba pinned him to win it back.

I loved 24/7 rules. Thought I'd get sick of them, never did. Even the shitty ones WCW did were generally entertaining and hell, if they're not your thing than they were a great guaranteed piss break.

Fun fact: The Booker T/Goldust tag team came about in a hardcore title match between Booker and Bubba when Goldust came in to take advantage of the 24/7 rules and failed.

Warrior is the worst. At least Hogan put some guys over in his career, Warrior never lost clean and could take a shotgun blast to the face and still kick out at 2.

My sister is doing everything to have a daughter after having two boys. As one of their chief babysitters (I spend more hours there than I do at home or my job!) it would be fun as hell to get a girl in the mix. Plus I need a fourth for vidja games in a few years.

Jaqueline's intergender era was interesting

Still couldn't match Chyna's mystique though. Chyna was positioned from day one of her bodyguard role as someone who was above women's wrestling and the equal of most men. They even considered giving her the world title a few times, though the IC was about right for her skill.

Chyna really should be in the HOF.

So Regal is in a feud with Spike Dudley because Spike has upset him two weeks in a row, the second time for the European title. Meanwhile Eddie Guerrero attacked IC champion Rob Van Dam after Rob successfully defended the belt and hit the frog splash on him. The next week (the same week Spike won the title from Regal), Eddie cost Van Dam a match with Undertaker, a match that made Rob look incredibly strong because it still took Taker everything to beat him.

On this RAW, Eddie is given promo time to explain he wants the IC Title because the brands are split and he wants to make a name for himself. Also, he feels Rob stole the frog splash from him. Regal is also given promo time where he goes old school and talks about how he's going to tear spike apart. Regal and Eddie will team against Spike and Rob. All four of these men will be involved in their respected title matches on the backlash PPV.

The intergender shtick seems more suited to Jazz at this point honestly.

Hey guys remember how Brock's first singles match was against Matt Hardy, and the build to that match included Paul Heyman attempting to proposition Lita for sex while twirling her thong? And then later in the night Paul cost the Hardys the match by pulling out her whole suitcase of thongs so that Brock could F5 Matt on the steel?

Great stuff.

Mayweather isn't trained to take a takedown

also Brock is literally twice his size

Brock could probably win a boxing match with that advantage, given his mma training. Weight classes in legit and semi-legit sports are there for a reason!

Not that I didn't love the wild west days of the UFC with no weight classes and getting sumos versus kick boxers and other fuckery.

The RAWs I'm watching during this time period are in this sweet spot where:

The only long segments are about building to a title match on the PPVs.

The world champion (HHH) is there to hype up his match but not to wrestle until his PPV match. He's barely there, but his appearances are also treated as a big deal.

The IC champ is booked super strong.

There's at least one lesser title match per show.

The matches are shorter, but they all tell a story, and they all build to something.

Heels do evil shit.

The pacing of match>promo>segment>match makes everything feel really fast and the show breezes by.

EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON THE SHOW, MAN AND WOMAN, HAS A STORY GOING ON WITH AN ACCOMPANYING PROMO/BACKSTAGE SEGMENT.

Where did it go wrong friends?

3 hour RAWs gave us a bunch of excellent wrestling to fill time.

But because of the need for long matches, they tend to throw the same people who are working the house shows out there to do matches they've done a bunch before.

Since its the same people, no one gets heat. Everyone trades wins besides the top guys, who are either well booked special event types like Brock and Taker, or named JOHN CENA.

They'll do something new, and we'll cheer because it's good or groan because it's bad. Then they'll fuck it up.

The only way to do 3 hour RAWs with this much wrestling would be to double or triple the roster and give people large amount of time off to cycle everyone in and out.

oh shit, just got to the first two hour nitro.

I was enjoying the one hour shows. hope these two hour ones don't drag...

It takes them awhile to figure it out. Honestly I find one hour Nitros to be the best, followed by three hours, because the first 90 minutes of those shows were usually great in an attempt to keep people from ever switching to RAW. Two hour Nitros didn't figure out the key of making the first hour the cruiserweight hour most of the time.

Of course but she never will. Both parties fuckrd up in this situation but Hunter was the lead fucker in this one. You have to be a jerk to cheat on thr girl you've been with for almost 3 years to mess with the bosses daughter just to get yourself higher in the company. He wasn't man enough to even tell her, she found out by a love letter.
She will. Once the idiots up the ladder realize they have wife beaters and bigots who were accepted and that denying her a spot is hypocritical

Edit: i wonder which woman will get the wwe chanpionship first in our lifetime
Well Chyna was supposed to be that woman bit she did Playboy instead.

WWE endorsed her Playboy appearance. You're thinking about her hardcore porn video.

Angle wasn't taken seriously until he did that feud with Austin. He was made to look like a joke in the Triple H-Stephanie angle. Same for Jericho. Wasting two big, talented main event guys acting as third wheel nobodies.
