Naughty Dog absolutely disgusting TLOU:R MP monetization

DLC perks

*Executioner (1 / 3 / 4 LP)

Level 1 - Earn double the parts for shiv kills.
Level 2 - Earn 50% more parts for special executions or interrogations, double the parts for shiv kills and get an extra shiv use every time you craft a shiv.
Level 3 - Earn double the parts for special executions or interrogations, double the parts for shiv kills and get 2 extra shiv uses every time you craft a shiv.

They sound game changing to me. Bloody hell, Naughty Dog, every single time you have to go on and fuck it up?

The perks are a little bit of a different story since some of those are really good but they are also incredibly expensive to equip. I have more of a problem with the perks than the weapons but it would have been nice if they included it all in the ps4 version.

I don't think "they're just a different playstyle" is much of an excuse. Yeah, sure, it's a different playstyle that might not be better, but it's still something customers who didn't buy DLC will have to play by the rules to experience.

It's definitely nice that they're available as preset loadouts, but being able to mix and match and level your perks seems like kind of a big deal in TLOU's multiplayer, so I consider that small comfort. If this were a free-to-play game I think this system would actually be quite novel, but considering it's a retail game I don't really like it.

You don't upgrade skills you just equip them equal to the LP you have available.

Giving paid users more weapon options than non paid users is fucked up and destroys balance.

That's irrelevant in this circumstance however, as nobody in their right mind plays TLOU multi for fine balance.

Damage marker is useless if you don't use the launcher.

Since when did the game let you earn that many parts from marking enemies? The wording makes it sound like you're getting damn near the same value of parts from crafting just by marking and doing damage, compared to getting the usual marked kills.

Ok, so whats really happening here is you need to pay extra for customizable loadouts. Even if the guns are available in presets, that sounds pretty fucking shitty.

OP acting like this goes for all the MP when it's only for custom load-outs.

That's still pretty shitty.

Imagine a CoD game where some of the best weapons could be used by everyone if they use a preset class, but the perks in that class aren't suited for the player's playstyle, at all.

Half measures at best, sleazy at worst.

I wish I had a gun like The Enforcer that can down enemies in ~5 shots from about the same range as a long gun is usually efficient at.

Half of your clip can down one enemy even from far away. No pistol should be that good from that range. Don't even get me started on the upgrade stats.
You do. It's called the revolver. And it costs 0 load outpoints.

I'm not condoning this whole DLC weapons and perks thing. Would it be better if they were included on PS4? Of course. Definitely.

But, calling it "absolutely disgusting" isn't really that accurate, given the context. Would it be

I always imagine people who write snarky responses like this are doing it with their screens on the floor because it's the closest they can get to literally looking down on the people they disagree with.

Well, 3 loadout points out of 13 is alot for something like that, IMO. Collector 1 is also 3 points and that applies to every action in the game.

This thread has actually made me more interested in trying out the MP. Just to see what the fuss is all about.

Sorry OP...I know that wasn't your intention :\

If they are selling someone is buying. Seems like a deal that is working out for both sides.

Someone should have thought twice before buying that horse armor.

, although I think "kind of a bummer" and "a little shitty" would be perfectly accurate.

Since everyone has their own opinions and this thread is going to eventually lead into some bans, what should ND do about this? WILL they even do anything, let alone acknowledge this criticism? There's a handful of ND devs on GAF and they clearly love their fans here on the site. Not getting any sort of response at all would be more irritating to me. I bought some perks as a sign of appreciation for the continued support of the game, but not having everything unlocked for the remastered version is bullshit, plain and simple. Not absolutely disgusting, but still bad.

Some people have plopped down $110 to play TLOU on PS3 and PS4.

If anything anyone that bought the PS3 version and the PS4 version should get all the multiplayer stuff for free.

I honestly do find it strange that their are significantly more people defending the pay-to-unlock weapons/skills in this thread than I've seen in many other thread on the subject.

I mean, most of the time I see GAF go way overboard about this stuff in the other direction, making a huge deal out of it. Obviously it's not 1:1 the same posters, but this thread has a significantly different tone, and I'm not sure why that is exactly. It's kind of odd. A lot of incredibly dismissive posts in this thread.

Also, some (all?) of the skills/weapons being in preset loadouts is not the same thing as being able to equip them how you like, I'm not sure why some people are acting like them being that way makes this virtually a non-issue.

I couldn't care less about cosmetic stuff, but weapons and especially skills being paid for really sucks. That's really too bad.

I'm sure the reason there's people defending it is because they've been given access to this content for buying the Season Pass and so they don't feel as strongly "wronged". If they didn't have access to it the same way most posters who are against this practice, I'm sure they would be more understanding and stop defending this awful business practice.

I don't really care how "balanced" these weapons or perks are, it's setting a precedent. If Naughty Dog can get away with this, more developers will follow in their footsteps. Yeah, yeah slippery slope argument but... this happens all the time in this industry. A development studio/publisher sees what Naughty Dog is doing, ND is successful in doing it, and that developer team/publisher won't pass up the chance to copy it to get the extra money ND is getting from these.

Weapon DLC is a terrible idea and the fact that ND actually decided to go through with it just amazes me. I didn't like it when it was launched on the PS3 ver. of this game and it disgusts me they didn't let the people on the Remastered version have access to these weapons for their own loadouts. This DLC launched well before the Remastered release, there's no excuse for the people who buy this version to not have access to these same weapons/perks for their own loadouts.

It doesn't help that the Uncharted community of players, since UC2, had been asking for weapon DLC for the longest time. I'm sure that helped in pushing ND to go through with this for TLOU. (Obviously not the primary reason they did it).

While I do agree that things like this shouldn't exist and it's a shitty practice. In this particular case, none of it is really that beneficial and truth be told, if you suck at this game, you're going to suck no matter what perks you've got. If you're great you can take out an entire team with a weak loadout regardless of what they've got.

preset loadouts don't have the highest levels of perks like Bomb Expert 3, Executioner 3, Agility 3, for example

all this is not included in the season pass?

All level 3 perks in the game are pretty damn significant.

And they're available to everyone in preset combos? The "paid" part is if you want to create custom combos?

I guess I'll try it for myself, but if I understand it correctly it doesn't seem like that big of a deal, unless there is a game breaking custom combo.

Yeah but I'm glad I have the stuff cause I had the season pass on ps3.it is a shitty move on be part though to not include it

Absolutely disgusting?

Seriously, some of you really need to learn that you can say "very annoying" and still get your point across.

Glad I got the season pass on the PS3 version. It wasn't very cool (read: not disgusting) that they didn't include the guns and perks for the Remastered version, as they do directly affect the multiplayer gameplay.

Do the preset loadouts on PS4 use all 13 loadout points or 11? Or do they evolve, the more loadout points you unlock?

Its more of the price of these that shocked me. If you add up all the bundle prices for all the dlc (which is already cheaper than separate), its equivalent to the cost of the full game.

Why is no one calling out all these 10/10 reviews? I didn't even realize the original ps3 version had paid content.
The XB1 launch last year set precedent that available dlc/microtransactions have no impact on review scores. Not saying that's how it should be, but it was set. I'm glaring at you most, Forza.

None of this particularly surprises me or particularly angers me. It just makes me want to bash me head into a desk.

CoD Ghosts did buyable multiplayer content correctly.

You can buy extra class slots, but the game already has the squad mate thingy, so the number of default class slots possible is like 50+. Out of the buyable weapons, only one is worthwhile. You can buy a wolf to replace your dog, you can buy Snoop Dogg's voice. Cosmetic shit.

CoD Ghosts has a ton of issues, but the amount of default content vs. the stuff you have to buy was balanced perfectly. The bought stuff is essentially all garnish.

This too! $7.99 for seven masks, ludicrous!

Although that antoniobanderas.gif taunt will be worth whatever price it may be. (pls $0.25)

The only game breaking thing in THOU multiplayer is how strong the shotgun is.

So wait. I have the season pass for the PS3 version, so do I get this DLC or do I have to pay for it? I haven't picked up TLoU:R yet, but I'm planning to.

Pretty much. People are acting like the paid DLC perks/weapons (that are free in preset loadouts) give you some monstrous advantage. I've been playing multiplayer for a long time and it is very balanced. Does it suck that you have to pay in order to use the DLC perks/weapons in a custom loadout? Absolutely. But it isn't "Absolutely disgusting."

I like how you used that image. I have taken note.

On topic: I don't see what's wrong here. I don't usually buy DLC, unless it's taken out of the game as part of the story, that I am guilty of (fucking Mass Effect and the shadow broker)
This shit is supplemental and doesn't look like it would give people much of advantage over the next person who doesn't own the stuff.

Naughty Dog's paid dues, they should be paid in return. Long as they don't start slicing out parts of their games and selling it as DLC,

Really. I could direct some people here to Documentaries about Africa's poor living conditions and brutal wars, in which "Absolutely disgusting" would finally have some merit.
