The "Westbrook gets gassed" scenario, especially when mixed in with "Houston gets hot" (which often leads to "WB starts a shootout") scenario is just about worst case scenario for the Thunder.

I saw how bad the Thunder bench was, yeah, but Donovan fucked up the rotations too.

It's a damn shame, because when Gibson and McDermott were on, they were being utilized really fucking well. Everyone except for Kanter/Singler/Sabonis, and perhaps Oladipo, has been used really well. But the rotations are NOT good. Roberson was making great cuts/rebounds, Gibson was just doing an amazing job on the defensive end, etc.

It's a chicken/egg. He's got to trust them to allow them to develop in the offense. Those last few possessions are microcosms. They've got an advantage and he's chucking up threes instead of trying to find his teammates. A season's worth of that is how you end up not trusting your teammates in a pivotal playoff game. That's why those 10+ assists per game he averaged were all smoke and mirrors.

HIs teammates being this bad is as much on Russ and Donovan. Harden and PRingles are the reason a guy like Eric Gordon came off the scrap heap to have a career season. Put him on OKC instead and he probably doesn't play as well.

He has to let them grow though, they lost a generational scorer, these guys never had to carry a scoring load before. They let Westbrook do everything to the detriment of their overall success. Westbrook can't take 42 shots, I don't give a shit how bad his teammates are. In the last minute they are just tossing it to him to chuck shitty 3s. His teammates need to take that because they don't have time to waste getting it to Westbrook for a contested shot when you are wide open.

Westbrook was playing crazy good early in the game as a facilitator.

Not even joking, the lineups with Westbrook on them, when he was focusing on passing the ball, had been so fucking deadly at the beginning of the game. He had 10 assists at the half
