NBA 2K6 x360 Review - IGN

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/666/666970p1.html

7.0 Presentation
Exactly the same as the current-gen game. Anything new would have been appreciated.

7.5 Graphics
Next-gen models on current-gen courts make for an almost next-gen looking game. All the old stuff needs to be flushed out for next season, especially the coaches.

8.5 Sound
A nice hip-hop soundtrack tailor-made for 2K6. Kudos for being able to rhyme Ginobili. The TNT crew does a fine job in the booth. How did Craig Sager break into broadcasting anyway?

7.5 Gameplay
Some interesting AI choices in the realm of clock management, but not bad enough to be a serious problem. Way too many charging calls. Shot stick unlocks new level of control in a basketball title.

7.0 Lasting Appeal
This is as deep as basketball games come, which you already know if you own the current-gen version. In the end, this is the same old 2K6.

7.8
Good OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

In the end, NBA 2K6 is a solid basketball title that really rests on the laurels of its predecessors. Even though the game can look absolutely amazing at time, it's still, at its heart, the same exact game that we saw in the current generation. While 2K6 was a very good game on those consoles, we want to be blown away by our next-generation games. Someone who already owns the current-gen version will be hard pressed to drop $59.99 on this version, but those new to the series may want to look into it. It's still the best basketball title on the 360. Unfortunately, that isn't saying too much.

this is what i dont get. should this game get lower ratings because it doesnt add anything to the xbox/ps2 versions? i mean, its nba 2k6...xbox360 edition. just because it doesnt add anything doesnt mean it should get rated lower IMO. i mean i can understand to a degree, but its got better sound, better graphics, and better animations. are they expecting revolutionary xbox360-only features? if so, i think thats unfair.

Well it also costs more.

2K6 360 getting bleh scores :( and " It's still the best basketball title on the 360. Unfortunately, that isn't saying too much."

Nba live 360 doomed? :(

Oh my! !sn't this the game that's supposed to sell the 360 to the young male?

Hmmm....Looking like passing on both basketball games might be an option.

Not having an hdtv has totally made me decide to pass on this game, will wait to see what other sites say about Live, but this is dissapointing :(

I see that the 360 launch will suffer from transition titles. you know... current gen games with next gen enhancements.

i think im going to take the safe route in to my purchases and just buy any game that doesnt have a xbox or ps2 couterpart as a lead version.

*cancels nba 2k6 purchase and waits for 2k7*

I have an HDTV and I'm passing on it! Don't be afraid

I'm sad fiddy!

I traded in the xbox version of 2k6 since my xbox broke and now I dont have a bball game and with Live 360 being worse most likely, ugh:( No way in hell am I paying 60$ for a game I already owned once and not getting any upgrades, shit not even visually cause I dont own that purty hdtv yet.

I need my bball fix, hopefully if I get one of those CC.com orders I can trade in NFS at a walmart or sell it on ebay, then I wont feel bad getting one of the 360 bball games.Shit id buy the xbox version used, but it doesnt work on the 360,right?

So now the dilemma is do I drop 2k6 and get Madden even though I like Basketball games a lot more than Football ones? Hmm...

Note the last NBA2k I bought was on DC and the last football game I bought was NFL2k2.

Well you could get 2K6 just for the fact that it is an awesome game in any shape or form.
The reviews aren't saying the game sucks, it's far from that. And the game did get a big graphical boost.

Ign has put up new nba live 360 vids showing the heat/spurs,besides the tards playing the game in the vids,it screams next gen to me more from the regular gameplay view than 2k6 does.2k6's replays look amazing, but who would pay $60 for amazing looking replays :\ The gameplay is pretty damn good in 2k6,but ugh I cant spend more money for the same game :(

I know Im going to cave in and buy live and I'm not sure I want too,I'm so weak.

I am about to read the review and will chime back on the review shortly...

Here is my stance... I never touched NBA2K6 on X-Box (knowing it was coming on X-Box 360). I also own a Sony 27" HD-TV, so this game should be incredible to me... I have no experience on the game this year... so everything is "new" to me!

NBA games suck. Stick with Madden and get PD0 instead.

So, if I like Basketball games and have never played the current-gen version, this game would be like a 9 for me, or so?

That shouldnt stop you from getting this game...it really is amazing. If you havent played the current-gen version this should be a must-buy because this game has longevity. But like most of us, we have the game and its just not worth buying the same game since its nothing but a graphic update and some fixes.

I'm getting madden and PGR3 now for sure, everything else is up in the air at this point.

Well... I read the review... I have a feeling I will love this game!

I have not touched NBA2K6 on X-Box and if it plays as good on X-Box 360 as it did on X-Box, I will be happy! I have read tons of posts and reviews on NBA2K6 on X-Box and supposedly the gameplay is superb...

Also... they fixed the gripes from the X-Box version for the X-Box 360 version... so improved graphics, improved gameplay...

I will be quite happy playing this until NBA2K7... plus NBA Live 2006 has a downloadable DEMO online with X-Box Live... so I can try it out and compare!

SWEET! Hopefully, my Gamestop will get the game in early so I can look at the box... that will be fun for 5-10 minutes!

Why don't reviewers just give 2 scores for this game?

If you own Xbox/PS2 version already, 6.8.

If you haven't purchased any NBA game this year, 9.0-10.0.

*shrugs*

I think for those that haven't purchased and tasted the awesomeness of this years 2K6 are being misled with these reviews. It's the definitive version of the years best basketball game (sim), no more and no less.

Remember there is going to be a free NBA live demo on launch day. Download and play the Live demo, compare it to NBA 2k6 on the xbox, and if you still like Live, buy Live.

Defensive stance makes it worth it for me. Well also the fact that I got it for $29.99 and I'm selling my xbox anyways :p

Maybe a port wouldn't have been so bad if the game didn't have problems as it was...big men are still a non factor, the entire down low play mechanics are trash.Iso motion should be mapped to the right stick, the "shot stick" should be mapped to two seperate buttons like in Live, etc. etc.

They gotta keep shot stick.

that I can agree with. Against another player or computer. Out of the 3 online games I played, two of my opponents sent me messages saying how they were shocked how I used my bigmen since nobody barely does it. (including them)

In the the current gen version, the computer didn't seem to use big men a lot. Big men can be used well by players if they manually control them, as shown in this year's league.

That one VC dev interview that someone else posted in another thread mentions that they were going to fix that in the 360 version, along with some other smaller AI bugs. I guess we'll get to see if they actually did that or not, but no reviewer so far has checked for that stuff.

Dude..you've posted those pics in about 5 threads now. You're not the only person with 360 games.

Maybe I am, and MAYBE I AM?

Plus... I only have 2 games... If I bought 360 games... I would be a broke man! And launch only has I think 18 games?

:lol :lol

You are forgiven...Even though that was corny as hell. If you didn't play 2K6 on the current gen systems I know you'll enjoy it. It's not that bad a game..I wish I had sat the Xbox version out and waited for this one.
