NBA and WNBA were offered a whole block on the Las Vegas strip to play and live by MGM Resorts, report says

When Dana White first talked about “Fight Island” I was like “this motherfucker crazy,” but I guess this type of method, or anything similar, may be the best way to handle sporting events until the world gets back to normal.

Baseball’s proposal limits travel as much as possible too

Can't see it. I feel like players would act like this is somehow barbaric.

"oh sure keep us locked up and force us to play sports. we're human beings"

And the NBA doesn't pay out their contracts and we probably see a lot of people change their minds quickly.

I think its a legitimate question to ask should we be devoting resources during a pandemic for sports. But I also think the risk of playing games with no crowds is probably very very low. Especially when you consider under 40 years old accounts for like 1% of deaths. If your under 40 you have 99% chance of beating CV, and if you are an athlete at tip top shape your odds are probably 100 times better.

I am more interested just to see the melt downs and fear mongering that will go on. Since the NBA is mainly black and black people are disproportional effected in the USA I am sure someone will spin this as equal to slavery and an attempted genocide LOL.

From what I understand at least when there is a work stoppage, the players have an escrow account that they can get money out of, but once thats done they don't get paid if they don't play. At least thats what I remember from the last NHL lock out. Not sure how that applies to pandemics.

A lot of these teams are gate driven, especially in smaller markets where they don't benefit from huge TV deals. Sure you get revenue sharing and big money from those national TV deals, but the bottom line of sports teams eventually is going to be effected by no attenedance. And I can't imagine these networks are happy with no content on. Sports is one of the highest and most consistent ratings getters, especially because its live.

The big 4 are too big to fail, but smaller leagues will be in trouble. XFL already went bust. CFL (canadian football league) is asking the feds for 150 Million dollar bail out. It wouldn't surprise me if some NHL teams like Winnipeg or Edmonton start talking about financial trouble and looking for money. I gotta imagine some smaller NBA teams are feeling the crunch.

I think NBA players will be a little more leery of getting back out there since Karl Anthony Towns mother died from covid.

I think the 2019-2020 season will end up being a complete wash and depending on how things go we might get a 2020-2021 season at a normal time depending on how things go.

Even if they wanted to start playing again there would need to be 4-6 weeks of training, skirmishes to get players back into somewhat near playing shape.

I’m not going to lie, Wizards games just won’t be the same without G-Wiz and his crazy hijinks with the fans.

Ultimately it comes down to money. i don’t think players have the reserve funds on tap to ride this out, in any sport.

Why would they waste space on the WNBA? This shit is only for TV and nobody watches that on TV.

I’m guessing broadcasters will take whatever live sports they can get their hands on.

ESPN is gonna be showing Korean baseball
