None of those are great outside shooters. We could have used Reggie Miller or hell even JJ Redick from Duke.

Yeah, cause Reggie Miller sure helped the team out in 2002.
lol.gif

Last year's qualifying team was a sizzling outside shooting team. In terms of their three point shooting, VC shot 45% (he was shooting 55% for a while before cooling down at the end), Bibby shot 57%, AI shot 54% (no lie), Ray Allen shot 55%, and T-Mac shot 42%. These figures are all quite a bit over their career averages. With a point guard like Kidd who can rebound and start the fast break, guys like AI and T-Mac can sprint down and spread the floor, leaving open shots for a VC or Ray Allen. It was a really solid team, and probably the most fun team to watch since the '92 squad. It's a shame that full squad isn't together this year.

Reggie Miller wouldn't have hurt, but he may be too damn old to get free against competition. Ray Allen would have been an even better fit. What was his excuse?

Our guys can outskill most teams, but games like today (and Pistons over Lakers) show that a good team that shares the ball and hits the open shots wins more often than not. Right now we've got no outside shooters.
Yeah, without a fast break game and good ball handling, the US looks very easy to beat if you have good shooting and zone defense.

Marriage.

BTW, after seeing some highlights I can see why the US got spanked...the refs actually called traveling! Lebron got three calls for it alone, including one on a partial breakaway dunk. That's gonna be a tough adjustment when you're used to taking like five strides before bouncing a ball.

(Reuters) - A Florida waitress who claims that Kobe Bryant groped her at the home of his former Los Angeles Lakers teammate, Shaquille O'Neal, could be called as a witness in his upcoming rape trial, a published report said on Tuesday. Prosecutors plan to subpoena the 22-year-old woman -- and possibly O'Neal -- to testify at Bryant's rape trial in August, Sports Illustrated magazine reported on its Web site.

LOL!!!!

I'm ashamed to be a fan of the NBA and Team USA today. What an embarrassing showing by our "stars." I've already written an email to the NBA explaining and detailing my frustrations with the way they handle the Olympics. There needs to be reform, and it the team should be a, get this, TEAM.

1. Choose players 1-2 years before Olympics
2. Set up practice times for team long before the actual events. Two weeks of practice before the Olympics results in shitty, embarrassing showings.
3. Scrubs need not apply. Okafor? Stoutemire? Marbury? I know there's more on the current team, but those are the three that stick out. Ridiculous.
4. Somehow get it into the stubborn, rich, spoiled REALLY TALENTED players that it is an HONOR to play for your country. Don't give me no "I'm scared of the TERRROSISTS!" garbage, either.
5. Start enforcing the rules in the NBA. How many times was travelling called today? 10, 12? Utterly ridiculous. Yes, Allen Iverson, those 63 steps you take before dribbling the ball and crossing over is, indeed, illegal.

I'm fumed. Losing to Italy by 17 points. Oh well, at least there was some good news today: the Toronto Raptors will appear on television a whole 3 times. Seems like the NBA is finally off their Vince Carter fetish and have realized he's an injury prone, overpaid, spoiled crybaby bitch.

Go Sonics.

That waitress' story is completely implausible! Shaq and Kobe would never hang out with each other. Anybody knows that.

Anyway, the prosecution's case is wrecked. They said so themselves in the transcripts. Leaking stories like this just shows how desparate they are.

True, what killed the case is when they admitted in the sexual history. When they show the girl had sex with some dude right after Kobe and before her rape exam that is the end of the case. Still, Shaq as a witness is courttv's wet dream.

Btw, the prosecution has leaked a lot of crap before this and so far all of it turned out to be untrue. The girl in Portland, the 'unbelievable' injuries to the girl, etc. Still, this might be true and it can't be good for the Kobster.

I think if I was in his position I would puss out and a plea to the least offense, wouldn't want to take a chance even if I was innocent.

To the lottery, where they usually reside. Too bad for you VC's gonna be the leading vote getter AGAIN, forcing his ass onto national TV whether you haters want to see him or not. BITCH.

Of course he might be representing a different team this year, but still...

Haha, yeah...fuck Carlisle. Hopefully the Pistons are #1 by the all star break, as Larry is a big Vince fan (plus they're UNC alum...Tarheels bitch).

Please, ShiDouche. Just because fans in Toronto have nothing better to do during their cold, boring, dull winters than to stuff ballots for VC doesn't mean he's actually deserving of that spot.

Unlike Ray Allen, a coaches choice after only playing 25 games, VC NEEDS the fans. He's all hype, no substance. And he won't be the leading vote getter this year, either.

ShiDouche??? That the best you can do HalfPastGay? I know you think VC gets the ballot box stuffed, but it simply isn't the case. He's huge in China, and that's where he gets his advantage. That and all but like four of the forwards in the east suck camel balls.

And why are you propping up Ray Allen for? He's gone the moment Seattle finds a trading partner for him. You never gave a shit about him before he joined the team, so it shouldn't be too hard to just drop his ass from now. Go dangle off Collision's balls instead.

HAHA! You gotta love the double standard. THe DA can pull this bullshit desperation move and try to bust out some girl who says Kobe touched her titty, yet if the defense tries to bring in all the dudes that have boned the accuser to show how much of a ho' she is and how easy it is to get into her pants, there's a law to prevent it.

That awesome new Batman the Animated Series dvd has awakened the inner detective in me. It is now obvious that Kobe was framed by a man whose evil cannot be measured by modern science. They claim that those who challege his legacy become 'cursed'.

The villain is revealed!

That's not a double standard, moron. Her being a hoe has nothing to do with whether she was raped that night or not. Promiscuous != more prone to lie about being raped. And if Kobe has a history of groping women and pulling other sorts of stunts, then of course it's going to be used in court -- it builds the case.

and if the women has a history of being an easy fuck (not to mention a history of mental problems, which were apparently also disallowed) does it not build the defense's case? Oh well, its obvious that this is just one last hail mary attempt by the DA. They're cooked.

I could be wrong, but having sex 8 hours after some dude who rapes you is probably not typical behavior of someone who was raped. Not to mention she is a pyscho who tried to kill herself twice before, the police department is known to be racist, and the DA has made insinuations about things before that turned out to be unture (i.e. the portland girl who Kobe 'harassed' said the DA stalked her and tried to get her to say Kobe was violent and didn't take no for an answer).

Still you are right, it doesn't mean she wasn't raped, but you have to admit this is way beyond reasonable doubt.

Still, MJ must be a good dad because that must have been the only reason he stuck with her (even if he lost half, half of his worth is still a lot).

I think that's correct...no one argued against VC being the top vote getting his first three years though (though he missed the third all star game due to injury).

hahah that's too bad you think so poorly of VC... I happen to think that is the best trade on the market for both teams. It would put VC in the SG role all the time instead of playing 2 and 3 like he has been doing in Tor. and talent for talent wise I don't think you'd find a better swap anywhere on the market... But VC is trying to pull a Tmac... by telling the team where to trade him... only he has like 4 years left on his contract!

I remember it being George Lynch. Harrington, Lynch and Magloire got thrown out of that game.

I wanted them to would meet up in the playoffs but the Hornets lost to Miami in the first round.

After watching that fight video I have to say, had Reggie Miller and John Starks not attacked Jordan, they might be wearing rings right now...

Haha, that was great. Also, ESPN sucks - they missed the Iverson shot live - stupid cameraman was showing a shot of the crowd when the game winner went down. Bastards.

Last second win against Team Germany? WTF? Other then Dirk do they have anyone decent? This is really embarassing, I figured that by just having Duncan they would destroy all the international teams.

---------------------------

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- Horace Jenkins signed with the NBA champion Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.

Jenkins, a 6-foot-1 point guard, played on the Pistons' summer league team and averaged 8.2 points and 2.8 assists in five games.

``He has gained valuable experience playing in Europe over the last three years, and we look forward to having him on the roster,'' Pistons president Joe Dumars said in a statement.

--------------------

Piston fans should be happy, this guy can play... he is from this D3 school here in Jersey called william paterson.., he is serious ... as a matter of fact you may remember him if you saw that ESPN show "the life" they documented him on Draft night and he thought he would get drafted, but he didnt.... just saw him at a summer league here in Jersey, put up like 40.... quickest first step i have seen in my life...

Wow, that US victory on the halfcourt heave by AI was today? After the Italy debacle? Jeez...you'd think they would have come to play after that embarrassing showing against Italy. But yeah, I forgot- today's players are so much better. ;) Anyone think that the '92 Dream Team wouldn't still be dominating by 20-30 points each game?

They should have just let the Pistons play as a team-- because at least they'd be a team. Same with the Spurs last year and the dynasty Lakers; the NBA should've sent these teams to the Olympics/World Games.

Wade has really impressed me though with his passing, to Duncan in particular. He caught Duncan in motion several times during the Italy game; if Shaq moves around at all, I think they'll fit well together. That's a big "if", however. :p

Lacks the power of instantaneous movement
AI is the best.

They should just let him put up every shot and clean up the misses.

Another faulty analogy Loki, but you can refute this by watching some tapes from 1895 which will clearly show that players were larger and faster then players of today. :D

Yet your "larger and faster players" didn't do much these past few days, eh? ;) That's my point-- they may be "talented" and "athletic", but the game of basketball is about more than athleticism; the US is quickly learning this lesson-- as if they needed any more evidence after the thrashings of the past 5-7 years in int'l competition. Fact: the '92 Dream Team would be abusing these teams today, because in addition to great individual talent, they all knew how to play team ball and had solid fundamentals. I mean, those Italians were barely getting off the ground, weren't muscular, and none of them had blazing speed-- yet they torched the US. A good team composed of good, fundamentally sound players will trounce hastily composed all-star, me-first teams any day.

The evidence is before you in the performances of the last 2 days.
