Doesn't know that "You" is used in both the singular and plural
I'm torn on this.

On one hand, this law is stupid. It should go.

On the other hand, businesses should not be able to bully governments into changing laws. Government is meant to serve the people, not businesses.

ay yay yay...

How is it bullying to make sure their LBGT employees will be protected and safe at an event they are hosting?

If the polls regarding that law holds true to the public sentiment, then nothing about it was "serving the people."

bish gets all the credit :)
wait.. so have they pulled it, or are they thinking about it? Title says they have, OP says they are looking at doing it..

I only see one dudes tweet as proof, nothing on ESPN or NBA

Woj is more credible than ESPN. Expect news from the NBA proper soon.

Business is free to make the calculation on where they do business based on various factors. Free market and all. That's up to others to determine what is worth it to them also. A law or the business. I don't really see that as pressure.

I see "pressure" more as lobbying/bribing/making promises out of the public eye to get things done to the detriment to the public, rights, environment, etc.

They're businesses, they have a legal right to conduct their business elsewhere. If you think this is actual corporate bullying I don't know what to tell you.

Put their games in New Orleans lol

That would certainly be poetic, wouldn't it?

Is South Carolina any better? It's right next door.

But no, there's no chance of them moving all Hornets games to another city. Too many contractual obligations, nor do I think it's necessarily the right thing to do. All Star Game is perfect spot to take the stand IMO.

I wouldn't think so, for a whole number of logistical reasons, and yeah contractual ones. I'm neutral on whether it's the 'right' or 'wrong' course of action. The loss of the ASG would be enough of an economic blow to get the point across IMHO.

Not bullying. Shit behavior by a government that's supposed to work on behalf of THE PEOPLE shouldn't be rewarded with money when they don't. Simple as that.

Expected this to come, still very glad to see that it is official. It's going to be a rough election for McRory after high publicity corporate fallout like this.

Then why do Republicans pass things like tax breaks, eminent domain and right to work laws (that don't even extend their very limited worker protections to LGBT) to get the same companies attention in the first place?

North Carolina is still the better Carolina. While SC hasn't passed anything like HB2, don't forget that they only recently took the confederate flag down from the state house. For all of its recent drama -- perhaps the thing instigating the recent drama -- North Carolina is trending towards being a purple state. (It went for Obama in 2008, narrowly went for Romney in 2012, and if not for gerrymandered districts, Democrats would be getting half of the state's seats in Congress.)

Conservatives here are going scorched earth while they're facing losing power.

You mean McCrory? It's about evenly split right now. Dunno if the cities will be able to overcome the rural areas.

Didn't Dy vote for the law?

Yea, he hates gay people

Never trust a dude that don't take care of his own kids

LOL @ this whole sequence.

A South Carolina senator tried passing a transgender bathroom law this year but it failed/he's going to try again next year if he gets re-elected.

Good.

There have to be consequences. And frankly, as a business, why would you want to be associated with an area that pushes blatantly hateful legislation?

NBA, NFL, and NCAA still do plenty of business in North Carolina. This is a small but important gesture but the leagues have to go one step further if they really cared about enacting change.

They shouldn't have it in Louisiana either since they passed that disgusting Blue Lives Matter bill
It's a shitty law but he has to pass shit like that to get reelected and keep doing good shit for the state. In the south you have to really take what you can get on a statewide level.

The governor and assembly of this state were not going to budge. The game has to move. Perhaps if the people of this state vote these clowns out of office, Charlotte can get another All-Star game in the near future.

This isn't Charlotte's fault, this city tried to do the right thing. However, the state clearly is not getting the message, and Charlotte is going to get caught in the crossfire.

yep, well said

on to 2019

Not all laws are created equal and honestly I'm not sure why people continue to act like they are.

So NBA should be forced to stay in NC? No contract keeping them there? What, is it discriminatory against government to leave?

This is going to be so fucking funny seeing the Gov. say something about this. I think we all know he's going to somehow dig himself deeper.

As someone close to charlotte. This sucks. The city suffers cause the state is being backwards. Sports fans suffer.
