The New York Times interview with Bobby Knight is illuminating.
For Dick Vitale's crusade of renaming Assembly Hall after Robert Montgomery Knight...or for that matter, Knight even being willing to comeback, it doesnt look like that is happening anytime soon, if ever.

Some of the highlights -
Indianas current coach, Tom Crean, has been trying to get you back to Bloomington to have some sort of homecoming. I imagine youd receive a heros welcome.
I dont need a heros welcome. What do I need a heros welcome for? Obviously I dont have any interest in going back, or I would have, its that simple.
Your book, The Power of Negative Thinking, presents what could be considered an anti-Pollyanna vision of the world. I have to agree that eternally optimistic positive thinkers are incredibly annoying.
When I first started coaching, one of the worst things that I think I heard was It will be O.K. I would wonder, How the hell is it going to be O.K.? The worst word in the English language is hope.
Myles Brand, the former Indiana University president who fired you, died in 2009. What did you think when you heard?
I didnt like the guy. In fact, the first time I ever did anything with him, I said, This guy will be a problem for a lot of people here. I felt that way when he was alive, and I felt that way when he was dead and never wasted any time on it.
Imagine you were allowed to edit your own obituary. Is there anything youd choose to leave out?
Well, seeing as I wont be able to, I would simply quote Clark Gable. Quite frankly, I just dont give a damn.
As an IU fan, Bobby Knight still means a lot. Those Calbert Cheaney teams were when I first started watching college basketball as a kid. To me, Knight was the most brilliant basketball coach in the sport (though I think Coach K has surpassed him in terms of accomplishments). His last 5 years at IU notwithstanding, his run prior to that was outstanding, 3 national titles, could have had a couple more if not for injuries (Scott May's broken elbow in 75', Alan Henderson's knee injury in 93').
But after the repeated overtures made to Knight since Crean has been there, coupled with nearly everyone involved in his firing no longer being a part of IU, I find his attitude frustrating but unfortunately typical Bobby Knight. It's tough for the man to get over a grudge.
