Well, my Dlink DI804HV just pooped on me so I need a new router (the download speeds are like a 20th compared to when its directly plugged into my cable modem and i asked some Broadband people about it and they troubleshooted it and they said it is done) So...

I need to get a new 4 way router. What is a good one that is affordable?

also, How is wireless routing going? Is your speed still up to par as if ur computer was directly connected to your cable modem?

Won't people steal bandwidth off your wireless or is there a way to Password it?

I was thinking about going wireless now that I need a new router but if its not as fast as a normal router then i will stick with the normal ones.

Yeah, of course there's ways to secure your network. Make sure you look up WEP/WPA encryption before you set yours up. There's no reason not to buy a wireless router now, even if you don't yet have any wireless stuff. They're like $60 compared to $50. My Linksys one's been running flawlessly for a long time.

My WRT54G just kicked the bucket after only a year and a half of use. It was great while it lasted, but... I decided to try D-Link (DGL-4300) this time. Just got it this week. Seems like a awesome router so far, though a little more than I wanted to spend. A bit over $100 after rebates.

The Motorola WR850G goes for cheap, very reliable Easy to setup and pretty intuitive (comes with a quick setup guide) You can get a brand new one for 30 bucks shipped easy.

[edit] BTW, I only use it for wired LAN, and I don't take advantage of the wireless and so I haven't really tested that aspect but as a router, it's great

I have a Linksys Compact Wireless-G 802.11 4-Port Router and I love it.

It's great for downtown apartments. Does everything and comes in a compact design.

Probabaly not good for suburban homes though.

After a year of nothing but problems (on and off) I finally replaced my WRT54G with the Belkin Pre-N Wireless Router. At around $90 it's not the cheapest, but it's easy to set up, has a very nice software interface, and has unbelievable range and speed, even with existing 802.11g stuff. And it stomps all over the interference I used to get from the 19 other neighbors who have wireless routers. Just make sure you're using WPA/WEP and MAC filtering.
