Need help with laptop internet connection

I have a problem right now where I have limited access in wifi and the little symbol that shows my internet connection is with the red x

My network connection page is blank and have tried some tips I found on Google but I still can't fix it

Finally I tried plugging in the Ethernet but it doesn't work either

Need help cause I don't have computer access until tomorrow

Also I'm posting from my phone with WiFi and have reserved my modem and router already.
 
Where are you and what networks do you have access to? Are you at home and the network was working before but not now? Have you tried turning the wireless access point off and on again?
 
I'd guess its the access point if you're having issues with both ethernet and wifi.

This is a pretty roundabout way but if you can make a mobile hotspot with your phone, you can see if its the laptop or the access point giving you trouble

I at home and it was working yesterday but not now. Yes to the last part as well.

I manage to get wireless connection 3 to show up in my network adapters in control panel. I tried the troubleshoot party and it gave me the message "windows couldn't automatically bind to the IP protocol stack to the network adapter."

This happened to me recently but it was because I had tried to uninstall ESET/NOD32 antivirus on my laptop. It might be a long shot but did you uninstall anything prior to the connectivity issue?

I had to download the unistaller from the site to clean whatever was lingering. That did the trick on my end.

Nope. Just turned out on and this happened
 
Red X means you're not even connected to your router, forget the internet for now. If you were connected to your router but had no internet you'd see a yellow ! warning. So for now the focus should just be on resetting your router and start there.
 
Try this. Unsure if it'll work.

Open up an elevated prompt of cmd (Open start menu, type cmd, and hold control shift and press enter).

Type the following commands:

Reset Winsock
Code: 
netsh winsock reset
Reset IP (with log file saved at C Drive:\resetlog.txt)
Code: 
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
Reboot.
Code: 
shutdown /r /t 0

Sorry it still doesn't work.
I'm also connected by Ethernet right now and it's not detecting it
 
Are the lights flashing on either end of the cable?

Is there an active ethernet light on the modem/router for that particular connection?
 
Do you run any firewall software outside of the built-in Windows Firewall like some Internet Security Software suite?

I have avg installed dues that count? Also thanks for the fast replies 😀

EDIT: in my network connections only wireless network is showing up. LAN and other stuff are missing for some reason.
 
If it's just AVG antivirus, you might be OK. If you use AVG firewall, it might cause issues.

That is odd. So ncpa.cpl (you can type this in start menu) only shows wireless connection?

Check your device manager if you have any yellow flags.

For the ncpa.cpl yes wireless is the only thing that shows up.

For device managers Microsoft virtual WiFi mini port adapter#2 has a yellow flag but if I try to update the driver it says it's up to date

Anything about unknown Hardware?

Seems like you might have a wrong driver situation although I don't know if you use virtual machines. edit: Might be a feature for mobile hotspot in Win7. It's been a while since I've used it.

Had this same issue the other day. Uninstalled wifi adapter in device manager, then the OS detected the adapter, reinstalled it and it worked.

The things listed in the network adapters in device manager is 2 Bluetooth stuff
2 Intel stuff one wireless and one Ethernet
2 Microsoft virtual WiFi mini port adapters

What do you mean by unknown hardware?

Don't know anything about virtual machines.

So... update. How many adapters are listed now?

There should now be a yellow flag on the missing adapter in Device Manager.

2 Bluetooth
1 Ethernet
Network controller is in other devices with a yellow flag on it.
 
Don't blame yourself. Blame Windows 7 for fucking itself up.

As for the network controller in other devices, go to its details tab and type what it says in its Property: Hardware IDs. Might take a while.

You can take a picture.

Weird how there are two bluetooth adapters. Usually those devices are bundled on the same wifi chip.

I hope you find your solution. I struggled with this on Friday with laptop (also windows 7) and no solution. Although my Xbox one runs fine with Ethernet.
I haven't done a single change on it since last time I used it the net worked and now it doesn't.

This is pretty weird... My experience was also on Windows 7. Some new update must've fucked up internet adapters in laptops? I even plugged my laptop directly into the modem via ethernet and couldn't get that to work.

Don't know if you have a flash drive or use an Android smartphone to transfer files.

Your ethernet should work regardless of the wifi card state though.

I wonder if a restart would help.

I have a USB but can't download stuff until tomorrow
Doing a system restore as we speak as far back as the option gave me
 
Try restarting with a netsh winsock reset in its current state.

edit: OK let's wait for the system restore results.
 
Upgrade your wireless driver using the page I linked.

Be sure to uninstall the old set in appwiz.cpl.

edit: As for the missing adapters page in ncpa.cpl, perhaps a registry entry is messed up.

Let's wait for the results of an upgraded wireless driver.

just wondering what should i delete/uninstall so i dont mess up lol

also the network connections page in control panel still doesnt LAN but if i connect my ethernet it works

EDIT:wifi bar shows a yellow asterisk but says that im connected should i be worried?

you can try a system restore like mine.

select the farthest date they give you

That icon sounds like the standard protocol when Windows finds usable wi-fi networks but it isn't connected to a network.

Might be intel wifi manager jacking into your network connection and overriding the Windows one.

Blank network page is disconcerting, but I guess if you don't want to mess with it now and it works, we don't have to go there. Maybe we should. It'll involve messing with the registry.

the wifi signal thing is fixed now, its shows that im connected to my wifi and have 5 bars

the network adapter page isnt blank but shows 3 wireless connections possible but no LAN

and thanks again man

EDIT: now it shows LAN as well
 
I see you already got it working. Just came to say the same thing happened to me a couple of times on my Win7 laptop with an Intel Centrino chipset. Culprit was the driver somehow getting updated via Windows Update that borked everything. Had to manually install the driver from Intel to fix it. Obviously the second time was quicker to fix, since I already suspected the same problem. Don't worry about the virtual mini ports. Those are automatically created even if you delete them. And don't auto-update your network drivers through Windows Update. Even with the latest driver direct from Intel, WU will still try to "update" to an older one that possibly caused your problems.
