Need idea for games for friend w/ seizure problems

Basically, she was told not to play games that move too fast, which is dismal for her because she enjoys rhythm games a lot. So any games, especially rhythm games, that have a nice slow pace to them would be awesome :)

I don't know about the Final Fantasy version, but Theatrhythm Dragon Quest has a pretty slow pace to it while remaining a fun rhythm game.

There is a rhythm based Kirby Spinoff: DeDeDe's Drum Dash. I honestly only played the bits of it that were already in Kirby Triple Deluxe, maybe you could look at some videos yourself to judge it.

It felt comparably slow paced, it was very different from the standard rhythm stuff where you need to hit the right button at the same time - it felt more like you had to try to build the best combo of buttons that fit the rhythm. (You jump through the level with the rhythm but can add more actions while jumping to gain more points.)

Depends on if her triggers are motion, or flashing.

If it's just motion then anything 2D-plane-based with stationary screens that change occasionally would probably serve her well. Was thinking of 2D platformers and adventure games, mostly, but since you mentioned rhythm games my first thought is Sound Shapes. PixelJunk Monsters and Shooter could work as well (good co-op too).

Try adventure games like Zero Escape, Myst, etc. Lots of thinking involved, but not action packed enough to give people seizures. You could also dip into turn-based 4x.

I was thinking of something like this, but there is definitely potentially dangerous flashing in stuff like Ace Attorney or Zero Escape. Myst should be fine though. Or other classics like Monkey Island or Grim Fandango?

Also: Animal Crossing?

Well if Patapon is slow (there's a lot going on on the screen at times though), then Rhythm Paradise series for Nintendo consoles would be perfect :)

This makes me want to make a game like this for people with sensitivity. Damn.

I've been doing a lot of reading about game design for people with disabilities and this is one of those topics. Hard to adapt some methods for our current game and some games just won't work but yeah - future games can and will be crafted from the ground-up with disabilities in mind.

I feel for your friend, OP. I will do some research and see what I come up with for you.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. And AbsintheGames, if you could PM me whenever you can about suggestions, that'd be great. :)

Oh, and she also likes VNs, so anything like that (ones that don't have flashing lights like Dee Dee brought up) would be great too!

Crypt of the Necrodancer has some fast music but the actual action on screen is fairly slow. And you can replace all of the music to slower stuff if needed.

What about Stepmania with a keyboard and backgrounds turned off? Maybe use a darker note skin too? You can change the speed of the notes too.
