Neil Blomkamp's Alien film a direct sequel to Aliens; disregards Alien 3/Resurrection

what if the new one is worse than alien 3. will alien 3 be recanonized? what's the process like?

It's not removed from canon, it'll just be rendered an alternate timeline. After Aliens you choose the path you want to go down.

Ripley is now starring in her own Choose Your Own Adventure book.

I'm guessing Blomkamp will take the recently popular wormhole/alternate universe approach. Ignore the third and fourth films without erasing them. Everybody's happy.

I think he might just ignore an in-film explanation completely, which would probably be for the best.

As Cheebo pointed out, that's just an imdb page. The studio didn't put that up, a fan did.

I think it's somewhere back in that thread (because I was confused as hell about this too) where someone pointed out to me where and how I'd gotten confused about there being a greenlight.

But basically, Fox has not given this guy a budget to make a movie yet. They're going to let him develop his ideas, and then they're going to see if those ideas are strong enough to give him a budget. Only when the checkbook actually comes out is the film "greenlit"

So far as anyone knows, that has not happened yet. I don't know if Blomkamp said differently on his instagram in the meantime though. I thought he'd simply said he and Fox are going to gonna start working on it - but you can work on a film for a studio and not have the film greenlit.

Sure, however my point is that if something did happen to it we would've heard something by now. The fact that NB stated it's happening back in Feb. to me states they are working on the pre-production stuff which takes a while. I would guess we're going to hear casting rumors probably this June/July and start filming end of summer if things are still in the pipe. Anyways, the Alien franchise is too big a deal to fans (myself included) for anything to happen to it and not be mentioned.

It'll be set in Johannesburg and the third act will lead to some mercenary/rogue hunting down the protagonist in a robot/robot suit sent by some corporate bigwig with some underlying social commentary on ghettos.

Thanks for the bump, but I thought you wouldn't be following this considering the first post of this thread from you on this news was:

:P

I'm still curious! Plus that was more of a reaction to this movie maybe ignoring A3, which I really like.

Still looking forward to seeing what materializes.

Sourh Korean space marine.

Is Newt confirmed to be in? Would be cool if they got the same actress.

I'm less concerned about disregarding 3 than bloomkamp to be honest

Like fine just make it better than 3... Like a lot better

But I'm skeptical he can do it

Alien is amazing.
Aliens is amazing.
Alien 3 is meh, Assembly Cut is okay.
Alien: Ressurection is terrible.
Prometheus is bad.

District 9 is great.
Elysium is meh.
Chappie is okay.

Alien 5 may be meh, may be great, might be just okay. But it will be better than 3, Ressurection and Prometheus. That is a given.

I would prefer they not make it if that's all we can hope for.

I just want to see Promethues 2 sequel from Ridley Scott. The first one is a bad Alien movie but is great sci fi film.

Prometheus' execution was flawed, but I appreciate it a lot. It closely followed the element of Alien that I liked the most, the exploration of The Derelict. As someone who is significantly more interested in discovering the origin of the xenos and psychological/cosmic horror than the space marine action that became popular with the Alien sequels, Prom appealed to me.

I'm starving for some updates on the status of Prom's sequel. I hope Ridley spills some details soon during The Martian's press tour. And if it's just not happening anymore, I'd appreciate Scott definitively saying that it's been shelved so I can move on. I feel it's possible that Alien 5 is the more attractive Alien universe movie for Fox as the crowd-pleaser and is sufficient enough to serve the purpose of keeping the movie franchise active by itself.

Hicks looks like David from AI after a bowl of vegetables.

People have been saying "This movie will be better than 3" ever since 3, and it hasn't happened yet. We're going on four movies spanning over 20 years now, and it still hasn't happened. So it's not a given at all.

It was a faithful recreation of the exploration of an awe inspiring Derelict, as run by the cast of Scooby Doo

'I LIKE ROCKS'

So Prometheus' sequel should have better written character actions. It would be a shame to not further continue Prometheus' aspirations of mythos enriching space exploration in this universe. With the little info we do have on the movie, I don't feel we're going to get that from Blomkamp's Aliens successor that presumably has a focus on giving Ripley a proper finish. And that's fine! I want both, and I want them both to be good.

Fixed that for you man ;)

They should have taken it more away from Alien. I was fucking angry when I went out of the cinema after watching it. The movie feels to much like a set up but is none.

If not then Juno Temple would be perfect for the role

Yeah looks like Newt didn't make any movies other than Aliens, she's not an actress anymore. Juno would be good, don't know about her acting skills but if she is good and the movie is good she could pick it after Sigourney.

To fit this in with Aliens 3 all he has to do is put Ripley, Hicks, and Newt in a survival pod at the end of this movie again. Plus expand on why only Eipley revived as well and didn't remember.

This looks to be 2.5 which is exactly what they should have done along time ago and well deserved.

But in Blomkamp's movie, Ripley will be older than she was in Aliens 3. Just have her wake up and shudder and say she had a strange and awful dream, i.e. a nod to Fincher's Aliens 3 movie. Then we can proceed with the real Aliens 3 movie ;-)

He does a good job directing action. So if it is action packed it should be good. If he pours on the melodrama ala Elysium, it won't be so good.

People still thinking "It was all a dream" is a viable option for this movie that won't play as a total joke.

C'mon. He's not even going to acknowledge Alien 3.

If he even gets this made. I'm wondering if he's leaking pre-production art because he needs to drum up internet attention again, which is how he got in the position he's in now.

I feel like this movie will be a lot like Terminator Genysis. Fifth entry of a beloved series, definitely not better than the first two films, better than the forth but on par with the third.

I feel like this movie will be decent but that's fine, I just want to see a Xenomorph made with modern CGI.

Is ‘Prometheus’ Holding Up Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Alien’? (Bloody Disgusting)

While Twentieth Century Fox is still hot on the project, our sources tell us that they’re being forced to hold off until after Ridley Scott gets into production on his long-gestured Prometheus sequel. This means a lengthy development process for Blomkamp’s Alien, and a potential release in 2018.

“Alien 5 is still very much in the works, as Fox remains hot on the idea,” our regular tipster tells us. “Blomkamp continues to work on the script (only an outline existed previously) and refine the tale he is telling. Ridley Scott is still producing, but has insisted on Prometheus 2 being made first.”

Blomkamp will continue to slowly prep Alien 5 while Scott goes off and makes Prometheus 2 early next year.
