Even personally I don't like him this interview have some interesting info about ND current projects including intergalactic which looks like it will have the biggest budget of all ND games in the history as per this interview, also one more information, he didn't want to give answer about intergalactic being at next S.O.P or not but he clearly state that they want to show more from the game .

On showing it off:
As far as when we're going to show stuff, I'm so antsy to show it and talk about it because the trailer that we showed doesn't even scratch the surface of what this game actually is. But announcing a game like this, especially when it's new IP, especially when it's coming out of Naughty Dog, you've got to coordinate with marketing, with PR, with a bunch of people. So it'd be foolish for me to say when we're gonna show something right now.
Not surprising. I'm guessing the next time we see it is when they have a gameplay deep dive. It's frustrating, but I'd rather not be drip fed nothing clips for the next 2 years.

On adapting it in other media:
I want to make sure we don't put the cart in front of the horse. This needs to be a fantastic video game first, and then if that happens and we have the right partnership, those opportunities would be great. But that's not why we do what we do. So there's a lot of ideas of what we could do with "Intergalactic," and in some ways it's easier to expand that because it's just how that story is structured in that universe. So there's some interesting conversations happening about potential projects that could come down in the future, but our priority right now is to make "Intergalactic" the next big, fantastic Naughty Dog game.
That should hopefully quell some concerns about his priorities.

I looked at what's in front of me, what would the next season might look like, and with all the various "Last of Us" things I'm working on — not just the show — with all the various games I'm working on

The ego on this guy. Thinks hes jesus.
wtf...this man speaks and y'all can't handle it. what is it that he says that makes you think something like that? lmao.

Also...about the TV show:

My hope for Season 3, and what I'd like to I think I can best contribute to it, is to make sure it's as deeply faithful as Season 1 was.

Interesting choice of words. Seems like he left for the reasons we first thought of. There was definitely some tension on the direction this show would go after season 1.

So he says he learnt heaps on the TV show, names a bunch of people as instrumental in his own growth and studio success. Talks about creative processes, etc and the take is he has an ego?

1. If he does he earnt it but at least in that interview it isn't front and centre.
2. He is a creative.
3. Wtf have you done thats so good?

I detect culture wars.

Unfortunately no.

1. This will very likely be the singular new game ND will put out before the PS6 since Part II. Neil spent years of studio time where he should've been managing the studio retreading an inferior version of the same story that was told from the first TLOU. He can say games are his priorities now, but they absolutely were not ever since he got the call from Tinsel Town. Sony should have never let him do that, and he should've had the wherewithal to either stick to ND and brush the show as a consultant, or quit.

2. The assorted cast drawing from Hollywood productions of varying relevance, the gooning over Trent Reznor doing the score, and the general lack of inspiration from Intergalactic's reveal indicate that the creatives at ND are not focused on making a great game. The reception to that trailer was horrendous. That shouldn't happen with PS's premiere studio, and that it did says that they have lost track of the ball.

ya think? then what was the point? (well, besides stirring up a shit storm)...
Teaser trailers are not new, right?

Hard disagree with everything here. In the interview he clearly identifies people who have stepped up into various leadership roles while he was away. So is not like the studio was hampered while he was splitting his time. And I'm sure SIE would have cut the cord if the game wasn't on track.

TLOU2 came out in 2020 and this game is 5 years into its development. That tracks for a new AAA IP.

Also, it's not like this is the first game with Hollywood actors or a famous composer doing the score. Bear McCreary and Hans Zimmer have both done video game scores.

And the shit storm around the trailer was from the character model having bald head. I'm guessing ND and SIE disregarded that.

I think you think he thinks he's Jesus lol

And that's part of the story. Although it is kind of funny to think shaving the head to be incognito would really work.

While I think the 4chan "leak" was fake, it's probably not far off.

It seems he was "away" for years. Either him coming back full time is a net negative, or these people who have stepped up have not been sufficient to replace or supersede his value to the studio.

No? You don't think the embarrassment around Factions 2 is a problem?

It won't come out until 2027.
And sorry, it should not track. The game industry is massively inefficient, and it's on Sony and leadership like Druckmann to be proactive in making it more so. Not by taking 7 years on new uninspired IP, 5 years on rehashed sequels and then wasting years of studio time pivoting to live service slop because selling 15-20 million units of these games is "not sustainable".

Also, it's not like this is the first game with Hollywood actors or a famous composer doing the score. Bear McCreary and Hans Zimmer have both done video game scores.
Of course, but it's one of the only substantial things we know about the game and it's made out to be some big selling point. 80s nostalgia synth pop, this time done by the guy who's scored more movies than can be counted? Not convincing.

They would be very foolish to disregard it, because it will have an impact on sales.

Which leads me to believe Naughty Dog as a studio, and SIE as a publisher is fine with his values. They could very easily remove him as president of the studio or have him be just president and not head of Narrative, but he's kept both of those because they're obviously fine with it.

No? You don't think the embarrassment around Factions 2 is a problem?
Is it a problem? Yes. But games get cancelled all the time. And at most studios they get cancelled when the studio president is working there full time, so I wouldn't put that on him alone.

It won't come out until 2027.

I wouldn't put the inefficiencies of the games industry on 1 person or studio either. Is 7 years to make a new IP too long? Sure. But that's the reality we live in today.

Cory's game at Santa Monica - a new IP as far as we know - is taking at least the same amount of time, if not longer. Light No Fire at Hello Games has been in development since ~2018, Ken Levine has been working on Judas for like 10 years now, by the time Yotei comes out it will have been 5 years.

And the directors and studio heads at all those studios and games were working on them full time.

So yes, I agree that AAA development takes way too long, but let's not pretend like the new ND game is behind because the director was not working hard enough on it. Whether or not we think it 'should' track is irrelevant. The reality is it does.

Because it's all they showed. It was a teaser. We're making a lot of assumptions based on a whole lot of nothing. If 80s nostalgia synth pop is not your thing that's fine. It's a fair criticism, but this may be the first time I've seen hate for a game based on the genre of music in the score/soundtrack. We haven't seen a second of gameplay.

They would be very foolish to disregard it, because it will have an impact on sales.
We'll see. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it will not have a noticeable impact on sales.

Naughty Dog has been irrelevant for quite some time now. They better hit it out of the park with Intergalactic, for 5 years we've seen nothing but remasters.

I've mentioned this multiple times, but a fully remaster of Uncharted Golden Abyss would go down well, get rid of the Vita controls.

Naughty Dog is such an interesting story of how they changed each generation, from Crash, Jak to Uncharted to Last of Us. Their progression was amazing. But it's hard to ignore something has changed for the PS5 generation. I do wonder if there is a lot of cancelled projects, setbacks. Their production has been terrible.

I'm curious how their new IP turns out though, they usually don't fail to deliver. I just wish they'd stop chasing ultimate graphics.

Old leadership was better that's for sure.

We know Bungie of all people said there GaaS game wasn't good enough 😂 imagine that when they're shitting out Marathon. That I imagine (given how long these ambitious games take) has set them back so long unfortunately.

How much time from the start of the game before we mandatory going to know the sexual preferences of every character included in Intergalactic?

Uncharted is their biggest IP in terms of sales and revenue.
Uncharted has 6 games and TLOU2 has 2 (both not counting remaster releases)...Uncharted sold over 50M copies WW and TLOU sold close to 40M.
I mean...you do the math.

The most successful is TLOU, not Uncharted. Imagine where TLOU would be with 5 or 6 games.

Oh look a Neil Druckmann thread, we all know how these go (I wish they wouldn't, but its inevitable at this point)

Back on topic, Intergalactic is going to be amazing, can't wait to see more (and hear more of that amazing music)

So, Uncharted is their biggest franchise in terms of revenue and sales. Cool.
