What a gigantic middle finger to people that played the first and got attached to the characters. It's like they missed the point entirely of why a large portion of the audience liked the first.

I did not mind the death of Joel. It was a bit shocking at first when the leaks came out, but I got over it relatively quickly.

I don't think that killed the franchise. I'm probably in the minority of this opinion.

It died to me after the first one. Couldn’t even finish the 2nd game.

The tail end is easily the best part of the game.

It's tempting to want to hope for a prequel showing what happened to Joel and Tommy after the loss of Sarah highlighting the dark path it took them both leading up to where the first TLOU started.

The dark path sounds like it could easily be as good as TLOU.
Maybe Joel and Tommy slaughter a house full of people after getting burned on a deal and while ransacking the camp find an orphan that reminds him of his daughter.
The whole Joel and vulnerable female companion dynamic is a big part of why TLOU is so great.

The first game sold over 30 million copies and the second one close to 15 million, and there's an upcoming PC version launch for it to coincide with the season 2 of the tv show which airs 10 days later, which is obviously designed by marketing to push the game sales even more going by past indications of games turned tv shows like Fallout.

It's irrelevant if Druckmann won't do a third part. Sony are not going to suddenly stop their golden goose from laying more golden eggs.

The third game will be done, with or without Druckmann's involvement, whether he likes it or not.

No kidding. I'm not sure what Druckmann was thinking with TLOU2. It was like a "How to tarnish a brand/franchise" speedun any % record. Went from being widely cherised in its first entry, over to widely divisive in the next. Its baffling to be honest. They could've done a relatively "safe" sequel with more of Joel and Ellie. Everyone would continue to be satisfied, give or take. Instead, TLOU2 completely flipped on that.

I'm still giving him the benefit of doubt that TLOU2 was the result of a rushed release. If not, then it may imply that:

a) TLOU1 was a fluke and the result of a collective and colloborative effort from the leads on the team back then
b) He really, really needs people around him to push back on his ideas and reign him in

If he ignores all critique and public feedback response he got on the initial character reveal of the Intergalatic trailer, then I'm not sure the eventual game will bode well. Unless, that reveal was intentional and they anticipated the response.

I'll be fine with both. I loved the first game but I was surprised to see a part 2. It didn't need a sequel for me.
I learn to like the part 2 so I'd be ok with a part 3 but like part 2, it's not necessary to have one.

I am fine with not having any more The Last of Us games. I mean Part 1 has been released three times now and Part 2 twice such that I just want to see any NEW game from Naughty Dog even an Uncharted 5 at this point. We've basically seen nothing new from this developer since 2020, only remasters and remakes.

Druckmann has stated in the past that the TV show would never go past the games. If TLOU tv show continues to be a massive hit, HBO will most likely order spin off shows, which Druckmann could be apart of or not, but he won't continue the story of Ellie past the games

When it comes to TLOU games, I think Naughty Dog is going to wait another 10 or 15 years for another one. Bring back Ellie when she is in her 40s. That character is a lot more compelling than another game with young adult Ellie. She doesn't even have to be the main character either

That already happens at the end of the game. Her atonement is sparing Abby's life and starting anew.

The first game wasn't about Ellie; she isn't more than a walking MacGuffin, like R2 in Star Wars IV. It was Joel's journey.

The first one presents him as a character that has reasons to not trust anyone and the time with Ellie made him actually care about a person at heart. The end presents this conflict that questions everyone who played, something like "what would you do in his place", and letting whatever the consequences stay up to the players head.
With 2 they made absolutelly clear that he is the bad person and deserve punishment for his crimes(bonus for people suddenly parroting this everytime when Joel was actually famous before). But that ok because this what happens in a zombie apocalypse.

In the Uncharted movie, like in the TLOU or other adaptations, the game studio who made the IP overviews the writing and project providing feedback:

In case of TLOU Druckmann got a bit more involved because the TLOU is basically his personal project, that evolved from a University project he made before joining the gaming industry. If desired he'd have been less involved in the tv adaptation.

I don't care about the plot or the story like i didn't cared in the first 2 games, i just need another gritty, heavy, realistic super violent 20 hours long tps with some stealth, they can call the game the turd of us and have a bumch of reptilians protagonists for what i care.

Majority of games are arcadey, even "realistic" stuff like cod or sniper elite, we can't just wait 10 years for rockstar to release an heavy, superbly animated tps.

Interbaldactic is probably gonna be arcadey aswell and it's not gonna be as gorey and violent as tlou so that doesn't cut it.

Nothing hit the mark quote like tlou series for me.

Honestly, there's really nowhere to go with the series after 2.

Elle is so psychologically fucked, and her inane treatment of Joel in TLOUII before he died really eroded my interest in her character.

Abby is a now a meme and so if they made a TLOUIII with her as the protagonist, the game would bomb so hard given that the only person who would buy would be Neil Druckman to use for his intimate stroke material.

A new protagonist would mean a lack of narrative continuity with the previous games would significantly lower its appeal even further. TLOU lives or dies on the back of its character stories. The world itself is not interesting, original or unique enough to carry a third game on its own.

It makes sense that ND focus on developing a new franchise.
