In other news these buttons are freaking mushy, gonna replace them ASAP. Of the two, which are 'mushier': Sanwa or Seimitsu? I definitely don't like the mushiness, no sirree!

Also, dragon punch motions facing left... ugh. Time to get over this hurdle again.

edit: Also, wtf MT grats on the stick :lol My T5 stick has traveled long and far *sheds tear*
my sanwa buttons aren't mushy. haven't used seimitsu buttons much

You know that price will be changed. :lol

Edit: Still will order just in case. Save some monies!

Edit edit: They charge you up front?

you sound like me.

anyone else swear by the VSHG?? I need someone to convince me to open this sucker up

I really can't believe that this they'll charge 40 bucks for that stick and not notice the difference. They won't fuck you, though... that much I do believe.

Taken from gamestop website:

Pricing
All prices shown are in U.S. Dollars. Store pricing may vary. Pricing for some pre-orders may be estimated. If the price of a pre-order decreases between the time you place your order and the time it ships, you will be charged the lower price. If the price increases, you will be given the option to keep your order at the higher price or cancel it.

So this means, worst case scenario, I get an angry e-mail and I cancel my pre-orders :p

My stick has an M engraved on the bottom. I am assuming this VSHG is a different revision. If that means anything. Do some of them not have the button problem?

Well, despite people insistence that playing with my EX2 some more would help, I've given up on it for Street Fighter and stuck with the pad. I actually play with the analog stick, which I'm sure is hell for some people, but I have no problems.

I'm probably going to keep the stick around though. Seems like it'll be good for when I eventually get some other XBLA games like Ikaruga and Soul Calibur.

Not sure to tell you the truth. I have heard that all of them have it and heard that some don't. Might want to do a search on SRK and see what you come up with.

Parts came today.

My HRAP EX is going through an identity crisis.

It thinks it's a VSHG.

Oh, nice acquisition, MThanded!

Very inspired! I just put in an order at Lizard Lick to do the same...though I'm leaving all eight buttons.

Hopefully Arcade Shock ships this week finally.

This thread had various VSHG tests going on, what I got from it was that some people were having problems with emulators and not necessarily with the PS3. I don't have a VSHG myself so I can't confirm either way.

I think a lot of the confusion comes from the fact that sometimes they'd be able to pull off moves and sometimes not and they'd chalk it up to user error, which doesn't really prove anything y'know. :\

So one guy from that thread was using Blanka's dash move as a test because it's just 3 buttons + <- for four inputs instead of a complicated super motion.

Just test it for yourself, you know you want to keep the stick anyway.

Of course I want to keep the stick lol. Has anyone downloaded street fighter alpha off of psn? Currently I only own ps2 fighting games. Any 3 button moves in that?

I have a BC ps3 though. So I will try to see what games I can try it with.

MTHanded,

I live by my VSHG but if yours is NIB, you should sell it on Ebay and just try to find a used one for less or get a HRAP3 or SFIV Tourney FightStick or something.

I had problems with the three button input but (I think) my pcb was replaced when I had it modded to work ps3 and 360 and seems to work fine now.

Keep in mind to do Ultras in SFIV you must input three of the same strength buttons so with your VSHG it could be a problem.

BTW, I've owned upwards of 7-10 sticks so far. VSHG is my favorite stick next to the SFIV Tournament Stick, I just wish it didnt have that issue with the inputs, stock.

Well I used to play 3s on GGPO a lot and out of habit I would do EX moves with three buttons. I can honestly say it was very very sketchy compared to using my HRAP. Sometimes the move wouldnt even come out at all, much less the EX version. May have been a separate problem but it seems to work fine now since it's been modded.

akuma001 is probably the person to talk about this. he mods all my sticks so yeah..

I just saw 001's mod of his VSHG that has a switch to make his VSHG compatible with BOTH PS3 and XBOX 360....

First, cool thread. :)

Second, this post answers the question I was about to trawl through an answer for.

Third, will this dude be able to mod more of these? I would definitely be interested.

Also - I wonder if he can make it PC compatible also?

akuma001 did that. PM him for prices.

Oh, and it's PC-compatible out of the box.

its standard pc compatible.

Also, I am a huge idiot and just bought alpha for ps1 off of psn and realized there are no 3 buttons moves. I was thinking of alpha 3.... So would someone be gracious enough to share hd remix with me. I already have it for xbla... I could play hd remix in classic mode and try the 3 button stuff if there is any.

OMG this stick is like butter. So much better than my ex2. wow!!!!

Wicked thanks guys - I'll get in touch with him. I've been too lazy to look into getting this done for too long now, so this thread is a perfect bit of help for me.

Ok so I went into non-remix mode and can do lariats 3k and 3p version and blanka hop. Most of the time. I am pretty sure the other times are just my crappy execution. If I can pull them at all the stick should be fine right. Or is it some times and not other times that the stick act wonky. I really love the way it feels.

Wow. playing with this stick is much better. the buttons are soo damn responsive.

If you have any games with training modes that display your inputs it will probably be easier to see whether you're performing moves right or not. Sadly it seems HD remix doesn't have this feature. :(

I think the Soul Calibur series features this and would be an easy test if you have any of those games on hand already.

I have tekken tag, sc3,sc2 and tekken 5 right here. I need a move thats 3 buttons at direction though right?

well if you can see your inputs it shouldn't matter I don't think because if you're pressing 3 buttons simultaneously and only 2 buttons are registering on the screen 30% of the time or whatever the problem should be pretty apparent.

Doing soul charges (A+B+K) in soul calibur is probably a good test though since problems with Tekken are kind of where this whole issue came to light in the first place.

The VSHG issue is only with Tekken 5: DR and certain emulators.

It also occurs with HD Remix.

Try playing classic mode and see how many times straight you can do Zangief's PPP lariat.

I have 3 VSHGs that are opened and they say 'S' or 'M' on the back.

I don't want to open my other one, but yea, you get the picture.

SC2 doenst show command presses but i could do soul charge while moving in any direction 100 percent of the time.

Actually, SFA does have three button moves...level 1 super is done with one punch/one kick, level 2 is done with two punch/two kick, level 3 is done with three punch/three kick.

Akuma and Bison both have teleports using all three punch buttons.

Hmm...Alpha 2 is the same except add Zangief's multi button moves, switching styles with Gen and custom combos.

Any clue which emus have the problem?

Will TE stick have any problems with any emus?

MThanded: if worst comes to worst and you can't do ultras or whatever in SF4, you can replace the PCB with toodles cthulhu board or something, it's fairly easy.

NFBA definitely does.

Sound like a plan. I really like the stick though. Feels light years better than my ex2. I cant believe how different the game feels now.

Yeah... I'm definitely replacing the square gate in this HRAP3. I don't have the patience to get used to it again, got so annoyed with not being able to execute moves as consistently as I liked that I just jumped back to my dualshock. Also, again, these buttons are so damn mushy :[

edit: After giving it a bit more practice I am significantly less angry :lol
Man, this always happens to me when I buy something. If I don't love it immediately I get crazy mad and post about it on GAF :[ Just need to spend a little more time to get back in the swing of things. I still plan on replacing it with an octagonal gate, though, soon as Lizard Lick gets them back in stock. And hopefully some snazzy Seimitsu buttons should fix my issue there.

I'm going for a violet bubbletop with matching buttons, what say ye GAF?

Same thing happened to me, maybe the problem is that I don't have anything to rest the EX2 on, or its just that the stick is of mediocre quality.

Anyone interested in a near mint Hori Real Arcade Pro 1 ? This is the 1st version mirror top. I'm looking to sell my extra one for $90 shipped ?

send me a PM if interested.

I really love the vshg but I may be interested in selling it if someone offers me the right price. Please PM me with an offer. We can go from there.

I am really trying to test the waters here.

What did you pay MarkMan, if you don't mind divulging? I just started collecting sticks last fall and I've already got some pretty neat ones (Otomedius and HRAP 3SA). I'm thinking about going back into the catalog for some older versions.

Also, a quick question for anybody who knows. I've got a first run HRAP 3 and the buttons kinda wiggle in the sockets. Is that just standard for the Hori stock buttons? I never really noticed until I recently got my HRAP 3SA and the buttons are tightly fit.

Also, you should load up some of those SF IV Tournament sticks into the back of your car and sell them off the street from your trunk...I know I'd drive down from Orange County:lol

I paid a REALLY good price.

Funny thing about this stick I bought. I have some history with it.

This stick is extremely limited. It has never been on eBay and has probably been on Yahoo Auctions Japan a handful of times(it always ends around $240+).

Hori originally released both a Hori Real Arcade Special Addition (SAnwa) and Hori Real Arcade Pro Special Edition (SEimitsu) shortly after the launch of the Hori Real Arcade Pro (original one).

At E3 2005 in Kentia Hall, Hori had one on display. By this time, the stick was already sold out/long gone from its one time release (Horistore.com exclusive; was never on Play-Asia or NCSX; I kept hoping it would be though)... I tried LONG and HARD to get the US Hori reps to sell me that stick. They weren't budging saying it is a Japan only limited edition/only one they have/etc etc.

So time goes on. I still look for it. Never found it.

I find out via Hori that less than 400 or so were made. Many of which were used for press/marketing.

Famitsu poll had this controller voted for/nominated as one of the greatest controllers of all time.

The legend continues...

Fast forward to first week of 2009.

Someone tipped me off on the deal. I contact the seller.

Guess who it was? Mr. Hori US rep. Awesome. Deal done.

Happy MarkMan.

:)

Final price! I'll reveal it in a few days when I do my FULLLLLLL REVIEW!!!!!!! (it'll probably be after CES..)

I still have to do my detailed writeup on the SFIV arcade sticks lol.

I noticed this as well, kind of annoying. Is it because they're snap-in? I know the threaded/screw in ones are supposed to have a more secure hold. It might just be because they're Hori buttons, though, I imagine Sanwa/Seimitsu snap-ins don't wiggle around (or at least I hope, I'm getting Seimitsu snap-ins soon).

I love this vshg. I have been playing SFA and hd remix on my ps3. So much better than my hori ex2. I dont think i could sell this stick. Its too damn good.

Can anyone give me a review on the VSHG? How it feels to play on it. I am tempted to sell but if I keep it I will have a good stick for the ps3 and a good one for the xbox 360(TE sf4 stick). Does anyone on here want to buy the stick from me. I feel like an amateur race car driver in a F1 racer. I haven't taken it out of the plastic yet. Don't want it to lose value in case I do want to sell it. I am ultra indecisive. MarkMan are you around to give me some words of wisdom?
I own 2 myself and love them. They're pure Sanwa, you'll get used to the sensitive buttons pretty quickly and you just need some practice getting used to the square gate.

The only shitty thing about them is having to reconfigure the button layout for every fighting game that is not Virtua Fighter 5, but it's a minor setback for a stick that has the same components as the SF4 TE stick for a fraction of the price.

Best arcade stick out there IMO and it's the reason I will always get multiplatform fighters on the PS3 instead of the 360.

The VSHG is awesome.

I forgot to link my review of it (this was done when it came out):

http://sdtekken.com/tech-area/arcade-sticks/ps3-vshg/virtua-stick-high-grade-review/

BTW, if you don't like the button configuration, you can easily change it via quick disconnects (which is what I did on one of mine).

I can really feel the difference. the ultra sensitive buttons are great. It makes me anxious for the sf4 TE stick even more. My one big worry is the three button+direction problem. I know in sf4 you need three buttons to do the supers... Guess I will need to change the pcb if I notice the problem.

A lot of us around here cannot wait to hear your review. I may pickup one of those non TE sticks also. I would love to get both my vshg and my TE stick modded to work on both systems. Currently, I have the knowledge and skills to do it but I would rather give it to someone who has done it before so I don't mess the stick up.

I really wish these TE sticks coming out were dual system compatible out of the box.
