Oh, and I know someone asked about opening it up... my friend will be coming to the States on wednesday of this coming week, so I should be able to do it then... assuming you don't have an answer already. lol.

Yes, internals need to be seen on the Death Smiles stick! If you've got a chance to open then please do in case some of the button shops open in the next few days I'll know what I need to order. I thought NCS sent my stick on Friday cause I got the email listing the stick and game but it turned out it was just the game and Monster Hunter. Grrr. Delay to June would not be fun.

guys I need some help.

when SFIV dropped i hadn't played a fighting game in years and I bought it with 2x Hori EX2 fighting sticks.

those 2 shitty things already crapped out a button each (on the same friggin weekend)

So now I'm sending them back and will probably get shop credit. I've been busting to do a mod again ever since I built a working mame cab, so I would love to have 2 joysticks with the best bits in there!

I see mentions of SEs and TEs etc. Can someone give a dummy a rundown of where a good place to start is?

Basically I want a stick that I can swap in really good parts that i can buy from somewhere that delivers all this to holland.

From what I can tell, this seems to be the best option

image.php

and then swapping in other parts? Can someone help me out on

1. whats the stock parts in there like (I'm comparing to a Hori EX2 for reference)
2. how easy is it to put other parts in this if needed
3. where can I get said parts?

Probably noobish questions but I've tried reading this thread and starting from 0 it's a bit of an information bomb...

Lastly, for an extra 100 euros (!!!!) you can buy the tournament edition of the stick... uh. Seems like it might be cheaper to mod this one? Would it be a better use of cash to mod this obviously cheaper stick, but if I have money (I do) is the stock TE stick a better investment?

1. I haven't used the stick but from all accounts I've read it's no better than the EX2. I've seen some folks say they're worse. And there's the whole washer issue...I don't know if that's been fixed but it's enough to scare me off of ever buying one unless I was gonna swap out the stick.
2. I've read it's pretty easy.
3. I think most sites are still not taking orders. http://www.akihabarashop.jp/ will be opening again in May. They're reliable.

Check out button/stick prices + shipping and see which is more affordable. I don't think the TE offers much over a modded SE.

Thanks Rummy.

I'm not sure what to do now, I have a broken button on each of my EX2 sticks....

However if I send em back to the store and get them exchanged, nothing is in stock...... but if I mod them and then find they have circuit board faults, I'm double fucked.

One of the sticks was behaving oddly before it broke down and giving a kick input on one of the punch buttons. (lost a round by blanka rainbow balling instead of ex through fireballs FROWN)

so I wonder if the circuit board could be faulty or the connection is just screwed. Being that it was my second stick going belly up within hours of the other one, I hit the thing pretty hard with my fist out of frustration.... now the A button doesn't work at all.

What to do what to do.

Just pop it open and see if the PCB is cracked. Pretty easy with just a simple screwdriver. The buttons are soldered in there pretty tightly so I doubt it is a loose button. If the PCB is not cracked then it is probably the individual button's plunger or something.

If you open it, send a pic and somebody on here will likely be able to see the problem.

Sanwa OBSF-30 and OBSN-30 buttons are compatible. OBSF-30 are easier to install
Seimitsu PS-14-G and PS-14-GN buttons are also compatible if you prefer them to Sanwa. PS-14-G are easier to install.
Just think that N in the naming convention = Nut, meaning they screw in instead of snap in.

The stick you want to replace it with is either a Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT-SK or Setmitsu LS-32-01 again, depending on preference.

Hey _dementia, found this

http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/products/jlf-tp-8yt.htm

whis is a Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT

but nothing about an SK.... is this the same?

I see they stock the Setmitsu... you mentioned preference, what are the differences that people say about the sticks? I would stick to one manufacturer me thinks.

Trouble is with the EX2 the button that is broken is directly soldered on to the PCB I believe, I need to check again, but I think to actually get at it, I need to melt solder and start removing things. Comfortable with doing that but I think it's getting fast into warrantee void territory.

Will check for some cracks and post some pics though!

Oh, for sure, it is covered and hard to get at and you basically have to desolder all the buttons to even begin working on it. But some folks have had a cracked PCB and the is easy to identify just from the underside once you open it up.

If it is the far right buttons on the EX2, it might be due to the separate PCB being cracked. I've seen this a few times. You can connect it with a wire over the trace and it'll work just fine.

nah, for one it's the 'A' button (bottom left) which the one I'm worried about. the other joystick completely crapped out on the x button.

I think I'm going to have an expensive but hopefully fun learning experience and try to modify both with Sanwa parts using this here guide (depending if the PCB is cracked on either, then I'll go with warantee first before i void said warantee)

Your terminology confuses me good sir!

Catfish, you can order parts from gamingnow.net

I placed an order late Friday and received shipping confirmation today ! =D

Ordered a Seimitsu stick + buttons for my SE.

Yep its easily fixable if its the seperate pcb. Looks like this fixed(already posted this some pages ago :)):

My EX2 broke in the same way, Rektash. Used your photo as a guide to fixing it!

The EX2's a piece of junk. I'd suggest dumping it as soon as you can, catfish. Lots of other people in this thread have had big issues with theirs. PCB's just dying outta nowhere and such. Modding it isn't the worst idea though...if anything goes wrong the new buttons and stick can still be transplanted into another shell.

Yeah, a functional modded EX2 is on borrowed time. Enjoy it while it lasts.

At this point, I'm using them as a test case.

2x sanwa sticks and 12 buttons ordered at that lizard lick place. I'm going to mod these things and then if they crap out, order those SE sticks and remod them. Bit worried about the surgery required to get the sanwas into the EX2 case though :/ as I think it might render them shit for transplanting later into a real stick.

what I may do is return them, get store credit get 2x SE sticks and then put the new parts into these when they arrive, depends whats available. I need to play street fighter!!

No worries. As long as the gold contact is there in some form, you can always solder a wire/QD to them. You can't really mess them up. I filed my into point w/ a rotary too. I'd suggest doing that vs. twisting it w/ pliers.

Yes, but only with the adapter since it's meant for the wider-shafted JLW sticks.

thanks i was just about to buy on too..... guess ill stick with the standard top!

edit: Are adapters fairly easy to install?

i'm pretty used to the square gate from the EX2s, but I ordered some octagon gates with the parts because they are more 'suited for street fighter'.

People here agree? I have 2 sticks so I might mount one with, one without and figure out which i prefer.

they screw right on

Um how so? My execution takes a shit in SFIV when I play with an octagonal gate. Not to mention the cabs rock square gates too.

no idea, the guide said 'octagon gates are better for street fighter, not so much virtua fighter'

*shrug* I'll try both i guess!

So is Lizardlick really six weeks behind? Says they are currently working of March 1st orders. Yikes, if so, I thought they were gonna only open orders up when they were caught up. Guess I'm in for a long wait.

That page was pretty spot on when my order finally shipped. I'm a little disheartened to see that they're still that far behind. I was planning on ordering some buttons.

Octagonal gates (along with bat tops) were traditionally what was used in the U.S. arcades back in the glory days. That's why some have a strong preference for them, some people also are more comfortable pulling off quarter-circle movements with octagonal gates. Honestly I find I play much easier now with a square gate - but a lot of that is my preference for charge characters like Guile, Claw, and Dictator.

Oh well. I did get my order in so I'm happy about that. Just figured they were only gonna reopen when they could fill in a timely manner. Six weeks isn't the end of the world just hadn't expected to spend $85 this morning :lol

Button question. What are the differences between the Seimitsu 30mm threaded with nut and snap-ins. My Seimitsu stick has snap-in but the only option was threaded with nut at LL. Should work on TEs and HRAPs, right?

Yes they work. Instead of the buttons snapping in with the two tabs it simply slides in from the top and then you tighten it in place with the nut from the bottom. It's actually a little easier since no force is required to get the tabs in/out.

Anyone know when the HRAP3's and the SFIV Arcade Sticks are going to start becoming more readily available? I'm dying to order one, but I really want to avoid the price gauging that's going on now, so I've been waiting for the supplies to pick up. I've checked a ton of online sites, and just about all are backordered or, like ebay, have a huge upcharge. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.

American sticks are perfectly round, not octagonal.

Saw a SE at Gamespot on the west side of Cleveland the other day but passed. In part due to the quality concerns, but mostly due to a lack of space to stow it in my checked baggage when I go home :)

Hopefully I'll be able to grab a TE soon when I'm back in Denver.

I'm trying to use my 360 Madcatz FightStick with PC games, but it's not really working. Has anyone had any success with this?

I plug the stick in, Vista detects it and loads the drivers, and it shows up in the Game Controllers control panel. I can even test all of the buttons, and the "Point of View Hat" works.

But then when I go into games (most recently tried Cave Story), the buttons are remapped somehow, and the directional stick itself never does anything.

What am I doing wrong?

Nothing. Not all games map the stick properly or have the option to change controls. In these cases you'd use something like Joy2Key or Xpadder to map your joystick buttons/directions to keyboard keys.

cleaning a stick, is there anything special to use? I don't want water to get into the buttons and damage anything. but so many finger prints :[

What were the general impressions of the Hori Wii arcade stick? I probably should have asked this before I bought it but I was ordering TvC and needed a stick to go with it. I looked up a mod guide for it and it did not look easy at all for a newbie so I hope the stock parts are satifactory.

It's a decent stock stick. I personally feel it's much better than its PS3 and 360 counterparts.

Hay guys, any good tutorials out there on how to dual-mod a 360 Tournament Edition stick for use with a PS3? I've searched all over and can't find one :(

You've just gotta wait a month or two. Fighters start arriving in June so companies will likely position stock that month.

There is also supposed to be a summer rerelease of a newly-branded TE for MvC2 if the leaks are correct. The might be a good time to get one. If that doesn't pan out then Arcade Shock has HRAPs arriving in July for regular retail, you've just gotta pay up front.

There are also gonna be official stick options for KoF and BB (BlazBlue sticks are already up for preorder).

Is there any type of converters that I could buy to use my SF4 TE stick to play on my Wii for Tatsunoko vs Capcom? maybe like a gamecube one of something?

Ordered some parts last Saturday (4-25) and received them today (4-30) from gamingnow.net!!! I'm sooo happy, going to install the parts in a minute. Took less than a week for the parts to arrive to my door step and I encourage anyone who is looking to mod their joysticks to order from them.

Finished installing everything earlier today. Everything works perfectly and I'm happy to be able to play Street Fighter with better controls.

^^Nice! Speaking of SE sticks my local Fry's has them in stock. Check their website and try store pickup to see if your location has them.

360 version BTW.

Hey guys I need some help. I recently replaced my buttons in my HRAP3 with sanwas. Most of the buttons work except for Select, Start, and L2. I tried unplugging and plugging back in the disconnect cables to make sure they're snug but they don't seem to be working. I tried plugging in the cables into the old buttons, same thing. Did I screw up my HRAP 3 somehow?

Unfortunately you might have. If you can't fix it, I guess you can always try the warranty.
